Review: Ahl Iver aka Oliver Maes returns to Lenske, the label that snapped up his demo back in 2019. As we've come to expect from Amelie Lens' imprint, Paradox is a hard-hitting affair. Influenced by techno, trance and hardcore, it gets off to a furious start with the pounding kicks, acrid acid and filtered breakdowns of "Reverse Psychology". "Rumble In The Jungle" is set to a furious pace, with a pummelling rhythm providing the backdrop for screeching trance riffs. In contrast, the title track is less frenetic. Centred on an ominous bass, it is peppered with repetitive vocal samples and sounds like Iver has drawn on Detroit techno for inspiration. There's also a further surprise in the form of "No Salvation", with Iver revealing a deeper sound, played out over rolling break beats.
