Liondub International

Liondub International, born on the foundations of original reggae music, primarily hones in on roaring jungle and drum and bass but occasionally swerves into 140 bpm and dancehall territories. The label was founded by DJs and producers DJ Liondub and Marcus Visionary in 2008. Over the years Liondub International operated from Brooklyn, Toronto, London and Kingston (Jamaica) but is now run solely by Liondub in New York City. The label joins the dots between sub-labels Blacklion Movements, Liondub Street Series, Liondub-ODT Muzik and Liondub45. Liondub International has seen releases from artists including: Bladerunner, DJ Hybrid, Serial Killaz, Aries, Bou, Macky Gee, Euphonique, Jayline, Sub Killaz and Riko Dan.

Review: Next up from the ever-ready Liondub International, a throwback filled to the brim with lethal flavours as Conrad Subs touches down to deliver four tracks of pure dancefloor fire. We open up with the unpredictable synthetic twitches and reesey rumbles of 'Rave Report', setting the tone of the project nicely before 'Dough' gives us a more minimal fusion of growling bass notes and sharpened drum designs. Next, 'Big Chungus' opens up the roof for an even harder hitting sub-line, upping the ante even further as we move forward, with Speaker Louis providing some additional work on the well thought out rhythmic arrangements of 'Shots Fired'. Another tidy collection from the Liondub dynasty.

Review: Doctor, doctor, I feel like a firework. Put some bangers on then, pal. Doctor, doctor I feel like a reload. Come again? Doctor doctor I can't stop spitting bars. Then stop eating nightclubs. All jokes aside, Doctor Roberts is not actually your typical healthcare professional. He'll cure you but it'll be with dutty bass and high energy tear-ups rather than medicines or modern science. The toxic waste electro thrills of the title track will have you doing dancefloor surgery, cutting up the place with your sharp moves. The groaning filthy reese of 'Wheel & Come' will have you sweating out your fever in a jiffy and 'Nice Guy' will clear any migraine thanks to its precision drum clarity. Pull yourselves together!

Artillery - (4:24) 175 BPM
Review: Last spotted on various Liondub International VA collections, the currently unstoppable B-Plexx makes his full EP debut on the US label with these four fiery bruisers. 'Voodoo' stirs up some serious black magic to set the scene. Tight drums, groaning basses and an ice cold sample, it leaves us under no illusion as to what's next... 'Artillery' is all about those buzzy high frequency licks, 'Displacement' is a wonky old affair that you could imagine someone like Tyke or Hazard dropping at 6am and twisting minds while 'Power Of Mind' closes on a dark, demonic tip. Feel the burn!

The Chase (feat Mozaia - JNGL mix) - (4:05) 174 BPM
Review: Following their epic JNGL MAPS opus in 22, Lost City return to Liondub International with another wedge of wallopers. As always, fusion and versions are aplenty as the duo roll their sleeves up and get super vibrant. 'The Chase' is a firm statement as Mozaia gets dramatic with her topline and the boy get busy on some epic Camo & Krooked style flavours and 'Can't Breathe' follows suit as Mozaia stays on board for the more theatrical fire but this time in more of a Latin mode. Both main tracks come complete with JNGL variations while 'Check' and 'Rolla Joint' close the EP with heavyweight dancefloor energy. Time, once again, to get Lost.

Review: Bangers to behold; LO! makes his debut on Liondub International with this very impressive collection of timeless breakbeat workouts. Flexing across the whole spectrum with an eye for the subtleties and groove, vibes range from the classic hardcore rinsery of 'DR8' to the more interplanetary jazz feels of 'Hint Hint' and the urgent futuristic funk and urgency of 'Redux'. And that's not even the whole EP; this one kicks hard in all directions.

Something - (4:27) 175 BPM
Review: Turn on your GPS and get seeking! Sam Pyro is 'Lost In The Rave' and we need to find him before his mum gets worried! 'Lost In The Rave' is a great place to commence the hunt. Classic detuned synth stabs and a pitched up vocal tells us he's front left. With its gritty, twisted bassline 'Something' tell us he's skanking hard with the massive while the ultra rave dynamics of 'Pull It' suggest he might be climbing up onto the stage and doing an unsoliciated rewind for the DJ. Finally we hit the final clue 'Freedom' and all is clear. With its breezy pads, urgent vocal and rasping bassline there's no other place he's likely to be... in the smokers chatting nonsense. Found him! Tell his mum he'll be home before breakfast... but probably won't be eating much due to the tastiness of this EP!

'Followers' hits you with 10000 heart reacts before 'Pretty Thing' gets all cosmic upside your cheeky chops and 'Memento' goes on a wildly wonky jazz vibe that hits with a really sweet off-beat edge. Written in collaboration with the label bossman Liondub and boasting a truly epic rollcall of collaborators from Top Cat to Congo Natty, Daddy Freddy to Ricky T, the album flexes the full soundsystem spectrum featuring all flavours of dubwise and dancehall influences. Laced together with Blackout's signature smoky storytelling, highlights include the dramatic skanks of 'Love You Want Stop', the feel good swagger and switchy breaks of 'Mama Nature' and the real-talking finale romp 'Son Of Nanny' which brings the album together with pure fire. 10,000 feet and still rising, Blackout JA knows no limits.

Review: Big moment for Faysha right here as he lays down his debut album Special Request on Liondub International. Special by name, special by nature; Faysha's really stretching his legs and taking his sound from slinky, fun and funky ('Touchdown') to gruelling, gritty techier flavours ('No Days Off') Elsewhere he links with various Liondub International such as Liondub himself and vocalists like Blackout JA who appears on the tried and tested realness anthem 'Enemies & Friends'. 'Hide' takes the lead with jazzy swinging beat, a haunting vocal and a whole army of bass textures shooting in our direction. 'Nasty Sh_t' keeps up the pace but goes more ghetto on us while 'No Time To Waste' flips between a sugar sweet vocal and a super grotty laser bass. Review: It's always good to see new heat land from the Liondub International crew, this time welcoming Jinx In Dub and Bluntskull inside for a vibrant 8 track set, opening up alongside Suku for the fiery hook lines of 'Wicked', followed closely grizzly bass intertwines and crunchy percussive influences of 'Bim Bam' alongside Bay-C. Collaboration is clearly a big theme on this project, opening up further with Cheshire Cat jumping into play with the classic hip hop drum drives and syncopated chords of 'Hotta Hotta', before Skarra Mucci takes us back to the 90's with a super smooth roller in 'Listen To Me Now'. The basslines only increase in intensity as we move forward, with Daddy Freddy then unleashing a monstrous vocal on 'To The Top', followed by Blackout JA & Rafeelya joining forces for the more softened arrangements of 'Turn Up The Music'. Finally, two hard hitting rollers, firstly seeing Capital D deliver a tidy chopped up vocal line on the skip-inspiring rhythms of 'Blaze Up', before Natty Campbell's toasted vocal additions on 'None Ah Dem' see the project out in style. Murderer (Phibes remix instrumental) - (4:35) 174 BPM
Review: The currently unstoppable Phibes return to Liondub and take on the classic 'Murderer' by seminal and pioneering reggae and dancehall singer Johnny Osbourne. Capturing his warm, toasty vocal flow but spicing it up over skippy stripped back breaks, guttural bassline croaks and honied subs, it's an instant skank-off anthem. Complete with an instrumental for added creativity or those unfortunate enough to be allergic to vocals.

Dungeon Kru & E.R.F - "Drop The Riddim" - (4:27) 174 BPM
Review: Talent-packed Liondub collective Dungeon Kru get busy once again with 'Drop The Riddim'. As is always the case with the crew the flavour is deep, dark and the vibe is rolling as they guide us through our paces. Highlights include the timeless bassline funk of 'Sound Boy', the progressive creeps and twists o the E.R.F collaboration 'Drop The Riddim', the eerie tension and percussive funk of 'Rumble Inna Jungle' and the vibrant finale with Bandit Emcee 'Level Up'.

Enemies & Friends
Enemies & Friends (radio mix) - (4:15) 175 BPM
Enemies & Friends (Dirty mix) - (4:12) 175 BPM
Review: Faysha, Blackout JA and Liondub all on one jam with a perfectly positive message... There's a lot to unpack here. Firstly Faysha and Liondub's beats hit hard with their stripped back off-the-wall funk. Then you have Blackout's fire bars which lay things out with clarity: don't worry about the haters, the greedy politicians, grubby capitalists, authoritarians and all things Babylon - just focus on yourself and those close to you who make your life special. Then if that's not enough you have the currently unstoppable Acuna on the remix tearing things up to a whole new level. What a jam!

20 Years - (4:04) 175 BPM
Review: One half of Serial Killaz, Vital Elements reflects over 20 years in the game with this powerful five tracker that shows him exploring, pushing and developing his style. Pick any flavour you might know him for and it's on this EP in all its glory: 'That Thing' brings the ravey rushes, 'Delinquent' is all about the flabby old wobble, 'Whine Up Ya Body' adds a splash of daytime dancehall delight and 'Shelter From The Storm' is all about those epic emotions and that goosebumping fusion. Need some absolute carnage? Look no further than the title track '20 Years'. Wig burning!

Wine It Up (Vital remix VIP) - (4:28) 175 BPM Hot
Wine It Up (Lost City remix) - (4:03) 174 BPM
Review: Pop your corks! It's Rumble, Blackout JA, Daddy Freddy and Liondub with their now cult classic 'Wine It Up' remixed up the max by a whole range of killer, on-point names. The original is a dancehall grinder but the remixes take us to all kinds of places; Vital gets savage with a new VIP of his original remix, Lost City bring absolute fire with a sizzling riddim that leaves plenty of space for the MCs' massive vocals while Marcus Visionary brings the dancehall elements of the original into a contemporary jungle twist. Finally for a special additional version excursion we have the 'Wine It Ova' special with Echo Minott and Sophia May bringing extra vocal flavour. Pour another one !

Review: Longtime friends and collaborators Capital D and Liondub get ready to 'Rumble' on this system shaking dancehall jam on Liondub International. Keys so springy they can send in the hearse, a bassline so bouncy it gets a proper burial and lyrics so fine they deserve a pretty casket. Available in a direct killer version and slightly friendlier radio version, this one's all about the blam blam blam!

Liondub & Marcus Visionary present: Jungle To The World Volume 5
Various
Bladerunner - "Jungle Strike" - (5:34) 175 BPM Hot
Aries & Kelvin 373 - "Dubplate Massive VIP" (feat Navigator) - (4:09) 58 BPM
Review: Reaching out to the massive! Liondub and good friend Marcus Visionary curate another absolutely slamming collection of upfront bubblers and blazers from a whole range of on-point talents for the fifth volume of their Jungle To The World series. Every single track is a highlight here as we slide and glide from vibe to vibe. Bladerunner's 'Jungle Strike' is the perfect intro that sucks us deep into action with pure energy while elsewhere other cuts like the VIP of Jayline's 'The Lion' go full-on elephant bass, Conrad Subs goes classical jungle with the chops, cuts and warping bass notes of 'Call It Love' and Teej gets militant with his breaks on his remix of SuM's 'Disorder'. World beating junglism.

Top Dog - (4:04) 174 BPM Hot
Can't Lose - (4:28) 175 BPM
Review: Following recent releases on the likes of Formation and Natty Dub, Norwich lads Simple Simon and Pharoah land on Liondub International with this four track beast. Expect a full range of flavours as the pair guide us through their influences and inspirations. 'Top Dog' barks orders with a stern and devilish intent while 'Can't Lose' flips things and shows us their funky side (complete with some brazen sax blasts) Elsewhere 'Babylon' takes us deep into the darkness - all bashy, firm and grizzly - before Pharoah's 2020 banger 'Fire In The Hole' gets a much needed VIP flip for a grand finale.

Liondub & Rumble - "Bellyas Version" - (3:30) 125 BPM
Review: Seeing a new release from the Liondub international crew is always a Monday highlight, with this latest combination of Capital D, Liondub & Rumble Mad being another wicked addition to their already impeccable catalogue. We are given two spicy singles, kicking off with the super-electronic dancehall flavours of 'Mad Smaddy', seeing Capital D take the lead role in a serious heater, doused in punchy drum work and sizzling bassline energy below. On the flip, we see Rumble arrives with 'Bellyas Version', giving the same riddim a more instrumental feel, showcasing just how potent it stands with an almost apocalyptic feel running throughout its explosive arrangement. Love it!

Review: Rumble's in the jungle. Ragga Twins are too. And it's an all-out love-in as the MCs celebrate the girls with this new Liondub International remix package. Toby Ross brings the jungle attitude, all rattling breaks and big bassline energy while Exile takes things in more of a dancefloor direction with a ridiculous swagger and big brash bass licks between the stomping kicks. Complete with original mixes, this is a big look for the summer festivals.

Review: Blackout JA & Liondub return as 'Blacklion Movements' to present the 10th single from their 'Love Dancehall' LP series. Blackout Jah and Blakkamoore link up with Dancehall Godfather Johnny Osbourne, Liondub and Jugganaut for this powerful jam that celebrates two massive reggae standards - Steelie & Clevie's classic 'Skylarking riddim' and Johnny Osbourne's 'Keep Rising'. Expect nothing but lyrical fire as the two mic-men weave and bob between each other over the beats. For added creativity jump on the riddim track. Plenty of skylarking to be done here... Rise up!

The Shadow Man - (4:27) 172 BPM
Review: Show us your war faces, now show us your full attention as we roll out this powerful debut LP from Bristol-based Magness. Released on Liondub International, it brings together everything he's hit us hard with over the years on labels such as Rebellion, Brawlin and Stickybass. Big dancefloor energy but with jump-up realness and the darkness of rollers, highlights include the drama and tension of 'The Shadow Man', the dancehall vocals and hip-wriggling bass licks of 'Pull Up' and the funky fluctuations of 'Sugar & Spice'.
