Review: Sending in some pumping and melodic tech house numbers with a cosmic electro touch is Rupert Ellis. Delivering this five-track Raveland EP the artist drops in first with "Abe's Oddysee" - an almost bleep territory banger. The title track delves deeper into deep house territory keeping its Chicago inspirations close while "Resonate" goes for a heavier bassline and Afrika Bambaataa vocoder next to the skippy groove and Kill Bill siren effects of "Scuba Scuba". Add a touch of trance and acid to the EP's closing cumber "Time Starts Now" and there you have it: Raveland.
Review: Locus reveals its fourth instalment of the 'LOCUS Trax' VA series, introducing label debuts from the talented lineup of Danny Snowden, Job de Jong, ADR, and OURMINDZ. This latest edition continues to shine a spotlight on emerging talents with four fresh names welcomed to the label. UK trio Danny Snowden kicks off the journey with "Essence", blending euphoric synths, lively percussion, and a captivating groove next to Dutchman Job de Jong with "OOC" - expect rumbling low-end vibrations and playful, bouncy electronics. Further in, ADR's "Bungee Gum" offers hazy chords, sinuous drums and subtle acid-tinged melodies, while OURMINDZ adds their unique touch to "Dusty" - fusing resonant organ stabs and elastic synths for a lively sonic adventure.
Review: The Fuse London sublabel Locus is back this week with a new one by the Amnesia Ibiza affiliated Luca Donzelli, who makes his debut on the London-based label. The Florentinian DJ/producer is in fine form on the Danny Collateraly EP, featuring the rolling and hypnotic tribal tech house of "Raver Danny" and the deep swing of "Chromaphonic" incorporating influences from Detroit and early UK IDM. It receives a remix by Salty Nuts main man Fabe, bringing the Mannheim sound into the mix on his boompty and minimal rendition.
Review: FUSE London sublabel Locus kicks off 2022 with a release by Frenchman Okain who drops his latest EP Daddy's Groove. A staple of Paris and Berlin's nightlife scenes, the Talman Records boss has also released on esteemed labels like Pleasure Zone, Eastenderz and Constant Sound. The release starts with the swingin' tech house groove of "Midnight Feed", followed by the minimal and afterhours minded "Tavie One Tooth" featuring some addictive '90s house keys, as well as the dubby and atmospheric mood of "Brother Jack" and the rolling boompty-funk of "Green Mouse".
Review: Locus is a London-based record label from the team behind FUSE London, and in their own words 'by the ravers, for the ravers.' Following up some killer editions by the likes of Josh Baker, Lauren Lo Sung and Sidney Charles this year, their latest one comes from the ascendant Cuartero, who is fresh off some promising releases on Hot Creations, Rawthentic and Moon Harbour. The Spanish producer serves up four tough rolling tech house cuts on the Wasp EP: from the deep and groovy mood music of "Eucalyptus", to the bass-driven minimal funk of "Assault" plus the energetic and swing-fuelled Rominimal vibe of "Bagonda".
Review: The Locus team have been on absolute fire recently and this latest offering from Oden & Fatzo is a fantastic way to see them once again explore the futuristic sounds of new school UKG. We begin with 'Denver In The Jungle', a real party-starter, doused in smooth sub-energies and colourful drum arrangements to match, before 'Equinox' sees more of those classic organ chords take the lead role. Next, 'Observatory' gives us a more Ibiza-chill inspired arrangement, focussing on housey beats and uplifting vocal slices atop ascending melodic grooves, before 'Solar Inertia' brings the bloopy energy right back to our eardrums with a stunning display. We close out with 'Compton's Visions', taking a breaksy-inspired twist, topped with sliding radar sounds and sweeping atmospherics for a killer closer.
