Review: For the latest release on her tricky-to-pigeonhole Love on the Rocks label, Paramida has turned to two rising production talents: Comeme and Snuff Tracks sort Violet and Radio Quantica resident Elles. "A Life Lives in Fear is Like a Life Half Lived" is an intoxicating, beat-free treat, where drifting, dreamy vocal samples, twinkling piano motifs and psychedelic acid lines wrap themselves around a restless, mind-altering bassline. Karsa steps up first with a dubby and dreamy, breakbeat-driven interpretation, before Prins Emmanuel delivers a "Boot Dub" that effectively re-casts the track as a loose and languid acid jack-track. There are also two Italo-disco inspired remixes: a throbbing, peak-time friendly take from Ebonz and a more twisted, nu disco-tinged Massimilano Pagliara fix.

Shakuhachi

Shakuhachi (Tokyo Black Star Atlantis remix) - (6:02) 59 BPM
Shakuhachi (Alex Kassian remix) - (8:12) 118 BPM
Review: Ghost Vision's "Shakuhachi" is the work of Thomas Gandey and and Danny McLewin, who are better known as Psychemagik. Recorded in late 2016, the title track feels like it belongs to an earlier era, thanks to its breezy, spacey melodies and Linn drum sound. To ensure that it has a contemporary flavour, Love on the Rocks have commissioned two great remixes. Tokyo Black Star who are known for their work on Innervisions, turn it into a slinky electronic disco workout. Meanwhile Al Kassian's take sees him drop funky break beats and spiralling acid lines without losing the cosmic melodies and breathy sensuality that makes "Shakuhachi" unique.

Head Shop Boys
Head Shop Boys - (10:03) 120 BPM
Haole - (6:39) 122 BPM Hot
Review: For the latest aural adventure on her Love on the Rocks imprint, Paramida has turned to little-known NYC act Totes Preesh, whose only previous release was an epic contribution to a Golf Channel compilation. "Head Shop Boys" is predictably trippy and mind-altering - a gigantic dancefloor bong hit where alien electronics, sparse melodies, whispered vocal samples and long, drawn-out chords cluster around a rock solid drum machine groove. It builds impressively throughout, adding layers of synthesizer fuzziness and TB-303 insanity before finally reaching a breathless conclusion. In comparison, flipside "Haole" is rather laidback and sun-kissed, though its blend of restless bells, tactile acid bass, boogie synths and proto-house charm still packs a punch.

Szlugi
Szlugi - (7:11) 117 BPM
Polonez - (6:50) 117 BPM Hot
Flauta - (13:43) 119 BPM
Review: Without attracting much hype, Das Komplex was responsible for some of the most enjoyable, dub-fuelled disco and Balearic releases of 2016. He's started 2017 in pretty confident fashion, too, delivering more fine fare via Father & Son Records & Tapes, People Must Jam and, now, Love On The Rocks. Interesting, this outing is a little bolder, woozier and weirder than some outings, though his love of reverb and delay remains a constant. "Szlugi" is an eccentric fusion of clattering drum machine percussion, trippy synthesizer motifs and lo-fi electronics, while "Polenz" effortlessly joins the dots between cosmic disco, jazz-funk and sample-heavy deep house. Best of all, though, is epic flipside "Flauta", a musically rich, Clavinet-heavy dub disco affair that rises and falls for 13 spellbinding minutes.

My Kinda Future (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) - (12:15) 123 BPM
Review: Last spotted cooking up science under his birth name Elliot Thomas, Etbonz gets his chunk on with a hurricane tapestry of cosmicity. Thumping with a loose but focused tech punch, the space between the layers of pads, synths, guitars and soaring FX allow you to weave, bob and lose all sense of time. Remix-wise Prins Thomas lowers the tempo and heightens the dubby aspects of the track with some really neat, intricate rolls on the percussion. Welcome to the future.

El Fuego (Digital Bonus Track) - (6:35) 123 BPM
Review: Zombies In Miami, the mysterious alias that seems to produce the funkiest and oddest strains of house around, return to action, and they land on the devilish Love On The Rocks, a certain go-to destination when it comes to the right spice. "Snake Language" is a robotic house cut that is bound to go down a storm on the big systems, and "Calo" is a little deeper and more loved in its eerie web of melodies and progressive beats. "Yama" has a tribal edge to it, bringing out flutes and psychedelic vibes all over the shop, whereas "El Fuego" heads back to the floor with a classy, straight-edged house beat and plenty of head-nodding.

Underpass
Stein's Way - (8:12) 118 BPM
Underpass - (7:53) 116 BPM Hot
Review: Following up releases by Massimiliano Pagliara and Telephones, Berlin's Paramida continues on a winning streak with her Love On The Rocks imprint. This time recruiting Indonesian Jonatahn Kusuma (previously seen on labels like I'm A Cliche) who steps up with two killer tracks of the Balearic kind. "A Steins Way" features an infectious synth bass melody backed by emotive strings, FX of the spacey kind and white noise; all that you need! Complelenting this is "Underpass' with its low slung groove. A deep funky bassline and some spacey arpeggios are once again all you need to get any party started. Tip!

Fountain Gate - (7:28) 120 BPM Hot
Dream Machine - (6:09) 120 BPM
St. Elmo's Theme - (6:31) 118 BPM
Review: Having made his name making decent deep house, Fantastic Man appears to be following in the footsteps of fellow Melbourne export Tornado Wallace and pursuing a far more Balearic, kaleidoscopic sound. Certainly, Dream Machine is arguably his strongest EP to date, delivering a trio of cuts that expertly fuse Italo, Scandolearic and new age influences. There's naturally much to admire, from the lilting melodies, tactile proto-house rhythms, Italo attitude and bubbling synth bass of "Fountain Gate", to the marimba-clad breeziness and chiming tunefulness of "St Elmo's (Theme)". The title track, a study in early deep house melodiousness, is also pretty impressive.

Review: A totally spaced out neo Balearica duo from Romania, Khidja, made some serious waves with recent debut "Mustafa/Abdul". Now they're back with more mystical sundown beats on the dreamy haze-out that is "Looki" - all chiming guitar, pan pipes, beach mats and tape hiss. On remix duties we have the mighty Lauer who brings a dramatic, escalating electro-disco rework to the table, a tambla house version from Fantastic Man and a fuzzed-out beat machine jam from Africaine 808. Cool.

Lotusland (Gatto Fritto remix) - (7:51) 116 BPM
Review: Berlin-based Norwegian producer Henning Severud is in the midst of a fine run of releases as Telephones right now with his debut on Running Back proving to be one of the label's most loved platters in some time (this is no mean feat it should be said). His latest appearance is on Paramida's Love On The Rocks imprint, itself a label that cant help but impress so far this year and Lotusland makes for a fine addition. Telephones offers up Sunset and Sunrise versions of the track and both feature sumptuous usage of melodies and early '90s NYC flavour embellished with a hint of uplifting European euphoria. It's likely you'll be hearing both versions for as long as the sun keeps shining this summer and they are complemented by remixes from Discodromo and Gatto Fritto with the latter a quite mind bending Electro Boogie workout.

Baboon (Bad Passion Project remix) - (6:48) 114 BPM
Review: Paramida's Love On The Rocks imprint got off to a flying start earlier this year with Flying Away From You, a sublime slab of south side Italian house from Massimiliano Pagliaria and it's now two for two from the fledgling label. Ess O Ess is the new production handle of London pair Jamie Blanco (of London Housing Trust repute) and Chris Stoker and their sole production here bodes well for any future manoeuvres. "Baboon" is tropical disco mixed with pagan house and feels like a certified summer jam. You also get two supplementary remixes that add something different to the track, with Tiago pulling the cut back towards exotic disco and the Bad Passion crew turning in a delay heavy house dub with a bass line that will grip you from the very off.
