Review: These two tracks first came out as a vinyl-only release at the tail end of 2019, and were getting mucho support from the likes of Danny Krivit and Kenny Dope until Covid came along and put the kibosh on the club scene for the next couple of years. So now, with the pandemic out of the way, they're back, with Dimitri From Paris giving us two new takes on the jazz-funk inspired 'Doing Our Own Thing' while Casbah 73 himself reworks 'To Be Free', apparently using a bunch of stems he'd forgotten about from the first time around. If organic, soulful disco and jazz-funk are your bag, this is a must.

Review: Stevie 'Big Bear' Kotey instigates a brand new guise that's as deep and majestic as it is hard to Google. Teaming up with well-established singer Angie May, "Capricorn Man" is an illustrious house track that reminds of us the true meaning of deep. With overwhelmingly big synths complementing every shade of May's tones, it's a genuinely emotional showdown. Remix-wise Idjut Boys go a bit dark and classic Black Strobe, Fabrizio Mammarella hurls us into Italo hyperspace and Freerange-fave Kresy adorns the original synth and vocal sentiments with perfectly executed filters and a classic Chicago shuffle that's not far off a Mr Fingers joint. Good knight!

Review: German disco-loving trio Space Ranger are back with their latest exploration of pop-infused cosmic goodness for their regular homestead Lovemonk. Working alongside Good Night Keaton, "Push Button Bang" puts paid to any Autumnal blues with a soaring, roaming epic rich in vocals, twinkling arpeggios and an addictive bassline pluck. "Intenzo" is a techier affair that swaps Balearic soulfulness for mechanical intent, although it doesn't shy away from engrossing melodic content before the tune is out. On remix duties Kresy takes the title track and does a very subtle job of dubbing the original out, while Jori Hulkkonen does some clever harmonising in his choice of chords to add a new emotional slant to an already heartfelt jam.

Review: Oli Stewart dons his Casbah 73 guise again and returns to Lovemonk with a second EP of soul-flecked goodness. His style - a peculiar but highly attractive mix of deep house, classic soul, broken beat, jazz and wide-eyed Balearica - guarantees a selection of tracks that are far from predictable. Opener "If You're Leaving (Part 1 & 2)" is a great example, moving from shuffling, soul-flecked 4/4 shuffler to sparse broken beat bomb in under 7 minutes. Elsewhere, "All Night Long" turns a forgotten soul gem into an atmospheric chunk of baggy deepness, "Too Cool to be Careless" sounds like the results of a smoky, late night studio jam session, and "I Want A Lot" is a particularly tasty chunk of disco-soul/deep house fusion.

Review: Of late, veteran Venezuelan DJ/producer Pablo Sanchez (now residing in Barcelona) has been pushing a sound based around deep house, nu-disco and Afro-funk. However for this new release he appears to return to the jazzier influences that informed his earlier work. "Out & About" is six minutes of party clap beats and sizzling freeform jazz. On the remix front, Kyodai goes for a crazy, escalating, Dave Brubeck inspired freakout while Opolopo delivers a more familiar funky house version.
