Concrete Shadows
Concrete Shadows - (5:16) 128 BPM Hot
Routemaster - (4:20) 130 BPM
Review: It's been a short while since we last saw the Low Pitched flag flying at casa JunoDownload, but we are thrilled to see the label make their return, this time welcoming Z-Kat inside for a sumptuous two-track display, exploring funky, breaks and more all in one. First up, 'Concrete Shadows' focuses on growling synth swipes and heavily dubbed out chord progressions to give us a pretty groovy roller. On the flip to this, 'Routemaster' takes a fiery fusion of rave-style chord lines, throwback breaks and some innovative LFO design to give us one heck of a b-side, applicable to so many different areas of electronic dance music.

Funksman
Funksman (original mix) - (4:56) 131 BPM
Review: It's been a hot minute since we last saw the Low Pitched team in action as DJ Spookz's imprint returns for a vibrant new single from Retrospect, a Bristol / Brighton based producer whose sound continues to impress. The general vibe of this one seems to be pushing towards genre fusion as much as anything, as we hear stripped back melodic plucks placed above some seriously groovy drumwork, giving a really unique twist to the now incredibly popular UK funky sound, especially when we encounter that killer bass lead. As always, we are very happy to see the Low Pitched team back in action with a banger as big as this!

The Forgotten EP
The Forgotten - (5:24) 134 BPM Hot
Baio - (4:17) 128 BPM
Aquamortis - (4:59) 130 BPM
Played by: NAZA
Review: It's always exciting to see top notch projects return to releasing music, an occurrence that we gladly see here as DJ Spookz jumps back onto the help at Low Pitched to deliver Z-Kat's scorching new UK Funky extravaganza. We kick this one off with a look at the high energy title track 'The Forgotten', an electric kuduro roller stuffed with percussive vibrancy. This is then chased up in style as the more tribal drum designs and relaxed atmospheric design of 'Baio' roll into play, before we tie everything up with 'Aquamortis', a euphoric creation that takes eastern melodies and super punchy drum sounds and rolls them into something magnificent.

Review: As one of the standout projects in the early days of basslines revival movement, Low Pitched have been on somewhat of a hiatus for the last 12 months, which we are extremely happy to see finishing as they unveil the first edition of their new self titled compilation project. This release sees them bring in the sounds of Fork & Knife, Ali McK & IYZ, Spookz, Sirmo, Kaizen Karnak and more, boasting a weighty UK funky influence throughout. For us, the stand outs have to include Killjoy's lethal original 'Spring Loaded', which is driven by well processed drum patterns and groovy bass instrument. We also have to shout out Bassravers for their colourful contribution in 'Dope', an infectious ball of energy from start to finish.

DJ Nightmare & Bosh - "Nightmare" - (4:14) 131 BPM
Review: Bass doesn't get any better - or warmer - than on the unfailingly on-point Low Pitched imprint, home to some of the best UK breaks and garage in our modern times. They're back on our charts this week, bringing through some utter heat with this new compilation, the wicked Spookz Presents. There's all sorts of banging percussion and piff low frequencies being fired in all directions, including a sublime piece of steppers grime called "Narrow Dust" by Tyrant, along with an endless deluge of dread from the likes of Jook10, Select, Steady State, and Spook himself. If you're looking for a lesson in bass-weight then look no further than this leviathan.

Hestia - "Baby" - (3:41) 130 BPM
Slmn Ghst - "Dawgs Dem" - (3:53) 128 BPM Hot
Genick & Strange Contents - "Monologue" - (3:47) 130 BPM
Review: Debutant destruction: Low Pitched continue to knock seven shades of bass out of the dance with a four-piece EP from four artists we'll be hearing a lot more of in future. From the chop-slapping grunts of fast-rising Tengu's "Crimson Peak" to Genick & Strange Contents' bitter-bass barks on "Monologue" via the purring space bass and struts and tightly plucked lead tones of Slmn Ghst's "Dawgs Dem" and harmonic hair-raising of Hestia's "Baby", the message is clear: there's a new generation of bass producers about to dent the future with level upping badness. Check!

Time
Time - (4:55) 131 BPM
Review: It's about time you moved right now. Not a suggestion but an order from the currently unstoppable Daze Prism. Just one track to focus on, "Time" hits with an air of the Dirtybirds with its gully bass, drum switches and subverted arrangement twists. Watch out for the humanised textures on the breakdown, too. The devil is always in the detail.

Nataraja - (4:30) 133 BPM
Review: Everyone do the tandava... After a few sneaky teases on Rinse amongst a few selectors in the know, new Belarus duo Offbeats Hustling proudly present their homage to the Hindu lord of the dance. Fusing alluring Indian diced/spliced vocals and mystic instrumentation with some savagely steppy dark UKG beats, the result is a unique heater that perks every ear in a 50 mile radius of the dance. Tip!

192: All You
192 - (3:58) 130 BPM
All You - (4:00) 130 BPM Hot
Review: The great thing about working on the digital side of the scene is to hear so many newcomers slap down their own interpretations of bass music, and that's precisely what we get here from this debut by the enigmatic SOLV. Coming through on the rampant Low Pitched catalogue, the artist drops the garage-driven groove "192" which we've got absolutely no issues in leaving on the office speakers for the rest of this sunny Thursday afternoon! "All You", on the other hand, goes for the jungle refresh, injecting grainy EMU breaks to a rich tapestry of grime-like mutant bass and vintage house synths. Talk about hybrids!

G Force - (4:03) 130 BPM
Quantum - (4:27) 132 BPM
Review: Flipping fire between Saucy and Low Pitched, Spekktrum is slaying the system right now with a sound that refuses to sit in any one genre: grime, breaks, garage, bassline. It's all in his pranged-out icy cold melting pot. "The Feeling" is a straight up riff-heavy 4x4 stomper while "G Force" takes a more frazzled, fractured approach while "Quantum" causes early 90s flashbacks before sucking us back into the present day by way of a dangerously grizzled bass drop. Serious feelings.

Bora EP
Bora - (4:41) 128 BPM Hot
Tusk - (4:59) 130 BPM
Review: We have waited a very long time for new music from Bristolian bass ruler, Pharoah K. Well now he's opened up the tomb and unleashed a new EP. There's only two tracks mind, but they're good 'uns. With both cuts displaying a tremendous skill for island-style percussion, the EP's title track, "Bora" is the softer of the two. Seductive and beguiling, the rhythmical sways of the tune are an exercise is sassy swagger. "Tusk" meanwhile, is all bout the elephantine hip-hop, an angry, brassy snorter. Glad this ancient king has been resurrected.

Impulse - (6:30) 130 BPM
Played by: Mr Brainz
Review: Bristol-born, London based bass man Dephex has building solid rep for himself through producing 'sinister, inventive beats in the 120-140bpm' tempo. Here he conjures up four cuts for the Impulse EP. "Bad" opens with percolating, forward facing bass and skippy beats. Elsewhere ""Bust" incorporates intricate stop/start beats and monstrous bass growls and "full Fat Butter" ventures into 2-step territory with extra lashings of rubbery bounce. Lastly "Impulse" features soft synth chords sharing the stage with relentless wobble bass and speedy 4 x 4 drums. Muchs power here.

Ride
Ride - (4:10) 132 BPM
Review: Jamie Maude has exploded out of nowhere (well, Oxted actually) with the epic banger, "Ride" on London's Low Pitched. Ears are already buzzing about the record not least because it braves to feature Loleatta Holloway's famous 'Ride On Time' line. However the line is warped beyond recognition and in fact it's the alien abduction 4 x 4 vibes, retro house organ riffs, skippy beats and heavy wobble attitude that is the real story here.

Casma - (3:35) 128 BPM Hot
Review: With releases on New Wave under their belt, a forthcoming release on U Wot Blud and this new two-track missive on Low Pitched, it seems that Daze Prism's time is now. There are two merciless joints here: "Polariza" which fuses skippy, steppy beats with a dubby low-end pulse and scattershot percussion. They really bring some fiyah on "Casma" though, where dark tropical beats and pitched up RnB vocal wails fuel a mean 4 x 4 chassis. Fierce sounds.

In The Rave EP
In The Rave - (3:59) 130 BPM Hot
Inside - (3:59) 130 BPM
Review: The man behind some of the best unofficial 4x4 UKG versions Skepta and JME have enjoyed, Skue-K continues his confident rise in the bass realm on Low Pitched. "In The Rave" takes a deeper, jacking twist from his more forthright damage with a well-placed vocal and rumbling house-style bass hook. "Inside" takes a turn for the gnarlier with a grittier bass approach but still a clear house edge to the drums. Stately, unhurried but 100% gully; these cuts are built to last.

Pescy - (3:56) 130 BPM
Review: High Daniels (aka Andy Robb from Devon), is a young gun who rocks a Brian Harvey look and even harder sound. Here he has paired up with Nasty Habbitz (aka 'The Badman'), for the two-punch audio assault, Faint On Man EP. "Battlefield" sets the tone with atmospheric breaks, some heavy, slow bass thunder and even some threatening Joe Pesci samples for good measure. "Pescy" Is even less subtle with 4 x 4 elements married to sinister bass frequencies and a general air of impending doom! Just the way we like it.

Take The Shot - (4:30) 128 BPM
Drop The Bass - (4:03) 128 BPM Hot
Tell Me - (5:10) 126 BPM
Review: Although for his latest offering Sirmo has ditched the Star Wars shtick, the force is most certainly with him still on the Take A Shot EP. With three high powered jams on here there's no worry of feet missing the dancefloor anytime soon. The title track launches things in a flurry of techy attitude, before "Drop The Bass" continues apace with ricocheting bass and string stabs. Lastly "Tell Me", fuses ghetto beats with some nasty wobble action and soulful vocals.

Review: Low Pitched seems like the perfect label to house the grime-leaning bass stepping of artists like Spekktrum and Spookz. The former drops the heavy, breezy "Minimise That" featuring the iconic vocals of Flirta D in the background, and Sublow remixes the tune into a more bass-heavy dance banger with one potent bassline. The two team up on "Tell Me", another furious grime excursion, this time featuring the vocals of Lil Nasty, and backed with a more straight-cut radio edit.

Who Run Tings EP
Who Run Tings - (3:50) 131 BPM
Play Them Vibes - (3:56) 135 BPM Hot
Review: Future Wildstyle is pretty much running things within the Yorkshire bass game, mashing up house and dubstep with total ease, which means "Who Run Tings" is only natural as a name for this scalding club stepper that has absolutely no care for genres or structure. "Play Them Vibes" follows the same non-formula, but even manages to chuck in some jungle breaks just to stir things up a little more...like it needed it!

Review: Inspired by the lack of pigeonholing in today's bassline scene, the much respected Low Pitched have rustled up their first album, Low Pitched Presents: Resonate, which aims to capture this aforementioned musical diversity. They haven't held back either, packing a whopping 23 new jams on this album, truly laying claim to having all bases covered. Highlights include the juddering low-end juggernaut "Patterns" by Clexx, the crisp, floating in space 2-stepper "Rowdy" and the truly next level, otherworldly rhythms of "Swedger" by Sketchman. A snapshot of a scene in full bloom.

Kill Dem - (4:23) 135 BPM Hot
Nose Bleed - (3:10) 126 BPM
3AM - (5:04) 126 BPM
Review: Duo Midnight Phulin (aka Tyler Clacey & Litek) began the year with debut jam Black Friday and haven't looked back since! Here's their biggest release yet, the Casualty EP, featuring three well-crafted tunes that promise 'nothing but deep subby vibes'. This EP is all about the darkside of the dancefloor: "Kill Dem" features echoey kick drum thumps, scattershot break beats and melancholic synth breaks. "Nose Bleed" meanwhile features ghetto beats, serpentine percussion, dungeon whip snares and wrong-side-of-bed bass gurgles. Finally "3AM" closes on a lighter, more upbeat tip with quirky organ riffs and rolling carnival grooves.

Review: Usually known for his heavyweight D&B, Simula drops the UKG bomb with a deep bubbling MC-fronted cut that ignites with deep house chords but soon hurls into a glitchy 4/4 strut that's not dissimilar to My Nu Leng. Remix-wise all bass bases are covered... Spookz applies the breaks, Skepsis chisels up the two-step and reverses the bass, Karl Vincent twists up the drums and busses up the reverb and roominess while K Green strips things right back on a much deeper classical garage version before dropping the gully bomb on the drop. Cheeky.

Culture Shock - (4:37) 128 BPM
Review: Prolific Leeds producer Joedan is back with a quick one-two of a single, Say My Name EP. Last time round it was his collaboration with Chiverton that set Lower My Glasses alight, and here he looks to a different MC, Blenda, to deliver similar goods. He totally nails it too, adding a grimey edge to the wobble-heavy 4 x 4 title track. "Culture Shock" is on a tougher mission: all relentless carnival beats, outer space bass and distant speech samples. Dangerous.

Kick Da Dog - (5:58) 130 BPM Hot
Review: Who knows what goes on inside the mind of a dragon? It must be a volatile cauldron of emotion. Here London label Low Pitched attempt to find out, releasing these two tracks from shady outfit M.O.A.D. Although the BPMs are fairly high, the title track is all about a slow and spacey bounce, with a dubby bassline rolling under trippily descending sonics. Digital B-side, "Kick Da Dog", on the other hand is fresher affair - essentially a prank call set to skippy garage workout. So the mind of a dragon, then, confused, but fun all the same!

Orphan - (3:48) 131 BPM
Review: Dangerous bone-shaking tones from the UK bass newcomer they call P A L F. "Badman" takes a Ragga Twins acapella and applies it to a murky-yet-slinky two-step while "Orphan" puts full emphasis on some deliciously dark bass gymnastics. Stretched out and moodier than 10 doctor's receptionists, if you had a child as ugly as this bassline you'd probably dump it at the orphanage too. Moving.

Review: London's bass hero Spekktrum is back, skidding in at the 11th hour to deliver one last collection of beats before the year is out. It's a more stripped back sound he's gone for here: "Sound Dem Killa" features pitched-down ragga vocals over a doomy, gurgling half-step beat, "Shadow People" is a bit perkier, with clickety-clack beats, sampled movie dialogue and plenty of bass snarls, whilst "Ultrasonic" reintroduces the classic move of using samples of vintage, stiff-upper-lip technical monologues over breakbeats. Spookz also adds some ace tropical beats to the latter too! Result!

Review: Fans of this UK bass bounder will be thrilled to hear that, following a diversion into remix land, he's back with an EP, So Good, of original material. There are three sizzling new cuts here as well as a remix. The title track kicks off proceedings with some much needed diva vocals and wobble-heavy breaks, whilst Spektrum adds a little trap to spice things up. "Transmitter" is a bottom-heavy tribute to the days of pirate radio and "Activate" sees shuffley urban beats surrounded by clouds of skunk smoke.

Here are two sizzling tracks of bassy badness that push the boundaries of what we call house, garage and 4x4 in fine style. "Giving It Raw" is a laser-bass assault with strong female vocals and snappy snares. "Fully Fledged" is a deep and dark wobble swamp, into which saucer eyed clubbers will gleefully disappear. They've warned us not to be misled by the title and they're right - it's tough beat city with "You're Cute" featuring hard, skippy 4x4 beats and a metallic bassline and the killer hip-house/wobble hybrid "Nose Up" giving it some serious attitude.

Review: With releases on the likes of Ministry, Vex and Four40 already under his belt, London's Spookz is making big waves fusing deep bass, house and tribal sounds. This was perfectly captured on his recent crossover hit "British Are Ready" and now the tune does a victory lap in the form of a new remix EP. There are no less than seven damage inducing reworks here, highlights including a sleek and atmospheric version by Spekktrum, a choppy and percussive workout by PVC and an austere slow hip-hop jam by J Beatz. Fierce.

Violate EP
Violate (feat Capo Lee) - (4:01) 130 BPM Hot
Time - (4:28) 130 BPM
Intelligence - (3:52) 132 BPM
Review: Gunk guzzling garage right here as Spekktrum and Spookz hook up once again for three slabs of barbed wire two-step. "Violate" is a shiny grime hybrid with Capo Lee adding vocal armour to the bubbling breakbeats. "Time" is a much darker affair; all pacey kicks and twisted, tightly woven basslines. Finally "Intelligence" takes us back to the late 90s with a groove that switches between pirate amens and brigadier two-steps, sounding like the illegitimate lovechild of Radioactiveman and Stanton Warriors. That's no bad thing.

Mad Vexed EP
Mad Vexed (original mix) - (5:24) 130 BPM Hot
Mad Vexed (Spookz remix) - (4:31) 130 BPM
Mad Vexed (Spekktrum remix) - (3:59) 130 BPM
Nar Riddim (original remix) - (4:11) 130 BPM
Review: Hailing from Leeds, Joedan Weeks makes dance music for people who like some menace in their party jams. There are a lot of these people about as his rising popularity shows, and now he presents the Mad Vexed EP, surely bound to be his most popular release yet. "Mad Vexed" is a slammin' slice of aggro-garage that fuses angry vocal samples over tough beats and a heavy wobble bassline. The bassline gets more warped on "Nar Riddim', a bonus tropical percussion-led jam. Elsewhere the title tracks gets remixed into bouncy 4x4 by Spookz and stabby ghetto bass by Spekktrum.
