Review: When he's not DJing and producing as Vincent Inc, or running Manuscript Records, Igor Visotskiy also works as a photographer and interior desgner. He's clearly a man of many talents, something that's also evidenced by the musical variety on an EP packing three heavily sample-based cuts that blur the lines between 'homage' and 're-edit'. Opener 'Kyoto Disco' is about as smooth, sultry n' soulful as disco gets before it's just soul again, 'You Got Me' channels 80s boogie vibes and sports some very cool, Scritti Politti-ish use of vocal FX, while finally 'Schizophrenia' takes us into late 60s deep funk territory. Classy stuff all round.

Review: Two contrasting cuts make up this EP from Ukraine's Vincent Inc and regular collaborator Lola Allen. 'Cafe Tropical' itself is pure space lounge-y bliss, complete with laidback geetar from the west coast jazz-funk school of thought, easy listening-style chorus'd (and mostly non-verbal) fem vox, a gloriously cheesy 80s sax line and the occasional Joey Negro-esque stab. 'Tribal Jazz' takes us down a completely different path - as the name kinda suggests, though aside from some fine muted trumpet work this brooding, percussive number is definitely more 'tribal' than 'jazz', conjuring pith-helmeted excursions into the deepest and darkest of jungles.

Review: Vincent Inc is a stalwart of the Ukrainian scene: as a DJ, producer, mastering engineer and label owner he's worked with or played alongside everyone from Tom Moulton to Kevin Saunderson to Marc Cotterell, and owns, we're told, over 50,000 records. Here he brings us a single-track release on Manuscript - the flagship of his stable of four record labels. His CV may range from nu-jazz to ambient, but Lola Allen collab 'Funky Hysteria' is a fairly 'traditional' disco-houser, dripping in funk and sporting a looping "let's do it" female vocal - albeit the breadth and depth of his experience shines through in the quality of the production.

Review: Ukrainian label Manuscript has enlisted the services of a trio of top talents to remix Crimean studio don Vincent Inc's "Abstract Life" single. Julian Sanza steps up first, delivering a driving chunk of dub-disco/deep house fusion rich in sparkling synthesizer lines, sun-kissed chords and his own rubbery post-punk bass. U.S deep house veterans Mateo and Matos wrap drifting vocal samples, lilting electronics and warm Fender Rhodes chords around a chunky groove on their fine interpretation, while DJ Ra-Soul opts for a brighter and breezier deep house vibe on a remix that benefits greatly from a squeezable synth bassline and some undulating TB-303 style acid motifs.

Review: Deep house/US garage veterans Mateo & Matos have been around longer than the Ark. Yet they remain capable of great things, as "Want U Tonight" proves. It's a deliciously simple deep house concoction that marries contemporary production (see the beefy bottom end) with the twittering synth melodies and loopy organ hooks of old New York house and garage (think Nu Groove meets Henry Street). John Mateo's remix is classic New York deep house, while Eddie Matos' version has more of a New Jersey garage swing. All the mixes are wonderfully slick and groovesome.
