Review: Azeem revisits a 20-year-old collaboration with Attaboy, which first came out on Toko Records back in 1998 and is now re-presented in six brand new mixes. Balaur & Collate maintain the dreamy, dubby feel of the original, while the Baeka Remix strips away layers of sound, letting the soulful vox and garage-y piano shine through. Ivan Fabra's rub is reminiscent of Daft Punk's 'Around The World', the Silly Willy Jacked Out Mix is stuttery and glitchy, Orkus serves up a more 'traditional' deep house pass and then finally the Erhan Yilmaz Mix drops the tempo and takes us into more Balearic, headnoddin' territory.
Review: Manuscript is Vincent Inc's label for the finest deep disco, funky jazzy house, nu-disco, techno and downtempo music. The label's next release comes from Jack Bowditch aka Collate, who has been moving through the dance music circuit for many years now and has found himself creating some great music under this new alias. He teams up with the enigmatic Balur on the deeply dubbed-out and hypnotic journey "Panspermia", which is backed up by the rolling and swing-fuelled ethereal tech house of "Major Vibe" - this one's reminiscent of hot sounds coming out of Ukraine/Russia at present by the likes of Silat Beksi or (iO) Mulen.
Review: Hot on the heels of their tech-tinged collaboration on Vandalizm Musique, Collate and Ballaur join forces again on Ukrainian imprint Manuscript. They're in fine form, too, with epic opener "Spinning Voices" offering a bubbly, undulating journey through hybrid deep house/tech-house pastures full to the brim with subtle acid lines, spacey chords, dreamy pads and looped female vocal samples. There's a similarly warm and hazy feel to second cut "Spictrum", where a nagging bassline and bumpin' beats come wrapped in sunrise-ready electronics, toasty chords and more cut-up old school vocal samples. Throw in some refreshingly positive synthesizer flourishes of the kind once found in Italian dream house records and you've got another tried-and-tested winner.
