Review: Archie Hamilton's MicroHertz label presents the Doubble Troubble EP by Argentinian producer Cosenza, which is yet another example of its dedication to quality avant-garde releases.
This latest release showcases two original tracks plus a remix. Cosenza's rising reputation in the minimal deep tech scene is apparent on this EP, as he blends classic analogue drum patterns and synths with modern production techniques. The hypnotic, groove-infused sound of 'Hitting Records' and 'Waterproof' are just perfect for the dancefloor. The remix of the title track by Sentaku crew member Man/ipulate is a stunning seven-minute journey of deep and elegant bliss.
Review: Moscow Records heads Stateside for their 55th release which comes courtesy of Californian DJ/producer Wyatt Marshall, who's had previous releases on Dirtybird, Avotre and DONOTSLEEP. He serves up the tough rolling and hypnotic back room dub of "Chatterbox" with its smooth, dubby vibes making perfect tackle for the warm-up or afterhours alike. The second offering "Distant Traveller" takes the very best elements of UK tech house added with '90s NYC motifs, particularly those infectious Korg M1 keys sound that are a constant throughout, in its swing-fuelled groove.
Review: Next up on London's Moscow Records is local up-and-comer Marcus Wormald aka DeMarzo, fresh off releases for Cecille, HedZup and No Art, presenting a surefire groove on the low-slung minimal funk of "Liquid Smoke". Equally suited to the warm-up as it is to the afterhours, it's supported by the driving back room dub of "No Other" up next, which merges the best of classic Stateside house motifs with the infectious energy of the UK underground.
Review: Next up on Archie Hamilton's ever reliable label is Irishman Andrew Azara, fresh off some hot releases for Avotre, Need and ORIGINS. Having been supported by the likes of Jamie Jones and Hamilton himself, it's not surprising to see Azara's music finding a home on Moscow Records. On this two-tracker, Azara presents the swirling and hypnotic progressive house vibe of "The Pressure" which will captivate you with its upfront melody, while "Antipode" presents something more straight ahead on this airy and bass-driven tech house cut, featuring an uplifting chord progression throughout.
Review: Following up some promising releases on LuvRhythm, NEED and Uncanny, Gran Canaria-based Juliche Hernandez is back and it seems he has really upped his game, if this release on Archie Hamilton's Moscow Records is anything to go by. From the bouncy and swing-fuelled UK tech house vibe of "Mess" to the bleepy and hypnotic shuffle funk of "Paint It Blue", and some bass-driven tackle for the warm-up (or afterhours alike) closes it out on the emotive "Rise" - reminiscent of classic Cab Drivers.
Review: Following up great releases by the likes of Michel De Hey, Project89 and Manuel De Lorenzi, Moscow Records chief Archie Hamilton is next up for his label's latest outing titled R:Evolution, which features three surefire cuts in the proper UK tech house tradition. Despite the title, "Moonshine" is a serving of sunny and uplifting groove action that's packed full of bouncy bass and swing-fuelled rhythms. There's also the funked-up main room intensity of "Hi Jinx" with elements of classic house for good measure, as well as the heads-down vibe of "Our Time" (feat Molly Green) which makes perfect mood music for the late night.
Review: Archie Hamilton's Moscow Records continues its prolific output with a new one this week by Dutchman Michel De Hey of HEY! Records fame. This scene veteran has been around for over three decades, appearing on labels like Noir Music, Bedrock and local imprint Rejected along the way - so you can certainly trust this DJ. The Lecture Day EP features three solid grooves that are perfect for any dancefloor. From the slinky mood of the title track, to the swing-fuelled minimal funk of "Torre" and the classic garage sound of final offering "Get Get Get Your" getting that classic Mood II Swing vibe happening.
Review: Londoner Charlie Banks returns to Archie Hamilton's Moss Co with an impressive three tracker packed full of solid grooves, previously heard on other top labels such as PIV, Talman and Disculture. "Milk No Sugar" is a swing-fuelled and bass driven hypnotiser in the proper UK tech house tradition, whereas the deeper minimal funk of "Sleep It Off" is perfect warm up tackle. Finally, "Trocadero" is perfect mood music aimed squarely at the after hours dancefloors
Review: Jeroen Broxterman is Project89, a Dutch talent who's found his way to the tech house scene in recent times with releases for the likes of PIV, Meta, Avotre and Mea Culpa. His latest is for Archie Hamilton's always reliable Moscow Records; the Complicated EP features the sunny and swing-fuelled title track, as well as "Searching" which are both so hypnotic that the likes of Mulen or Jack Wickham would stand up and notice. There's the addition of a deeper and emotive jam that's aimed squarely at the night late dancefloor - in the form of "Impress Me".
Review: Moscow main man Archie Hamilton is back for the London-based label's newest release, after presenting a massive compilation on sister imprint Moss Co. back in February. Here he serves up the slick late night bounce of "Journey To Juno" led by the punchy boompty bass of its namesake and underpinned with glistening FM textures and swung rhythms. Second offering "Midnight Delight" cleverly samples a classic from some certain Swiss electronic pioneers on this percussive tech house tool, where its syncopated tribal rhythms groove away nicely beneath some hypnotic 303 acid for added effect.
