Review: It's that time of year when label compilations arrive by the truckload, but this Midnight Riot collection is definitely one that stands out from the herd, because it packs more bullets than a Gatling gun! Leading the charge for yours truly is Yam Who? & Rikky Disco's 'Set Me Free' with its romping house pianos, fat-ass b-line and absolute killer of a jazz-like female vocal, but not far behind come Da Lukas's 'Drop The Funk' (which bites Diana Brown & Barrie K Sharpe's early 90s classic 'The Masterplan'), Domino DB's gospel-infused soulful house anthem 'You Got The Love', The Love Doves' strutty 'Sistahood', Brian Lukas & Suki Soul's Inner City-nodding 'Back Together' and, well, you get the idea! A disco, nu-disco, disco-house and boogie delight.

Review: Through his releases on Midnight Riot and sister label ISM, Danny Kane has proved time and again that he's one of the British nu-disco scene's greatest funk-soul-disco fusionists. We Come In Peace, his debut album, further confirms the Birmingham producer's rising star status via a mix of previously released singles, unheard workouts and a handful of fine remixes from such talented producers as J Kriv, Qwestlife and Art of Tones. Our picks of an extremely strong bunch include disco-funk/boogie fusion number 'We Come in Peace', revivalist '80s soul gem 'Do It Right', dreamy boogie-house roller 'Octopussy', future disco scene anthem 'Good Love' and his swirling, all-action disco-house collaboration with Natasha Kitty Katt, 'Ascend to Love'.

Review: All-things-funky specialists Midnight Riot are known for their collaborative EP's from all corners of the nu-disco world, but they've got a hot new single from The New Black, a producer who has already appeared a number of times on the label. He's got five slices of party-ready madness this time around, the jewels of which have to be the boogie-tastic "I Never Knew", slo-mo jazz-house piece "A Single Number", and the funky percussive bomb "Coming Back". Hot off the trod!

Review: North Sea dweller and nu-disco diver Headpocket hasn't rested on his laurels since the recent release of his Tubular Vision album, already returning with this Tropical Golf EP on the mighty Midnight Riot. There are four new sizzlers here, all of which veer on the deep side of things but it different ways: "Headstrong" is synth-drenched 80s disco-soul, "Fade to Blue" is soothing piano house, "Bottlejack Settledown" fuses holiday cocktail-house vibes with live funk guitar, but best of all is "50 Dog 100 Dog" which is a deliciously melancholic sunkissed Balearic/Italo-disco instrumental. Gorgeous!

Review: Here's something a little different from Yam Who's Midnight Riot imprint: a selection of house-friendly disco re-edits and disco/house blends from long-established funk-house brother Seamus Haji. There's naturally plenty to enjoy, from the loopy, midtempo chug of "Giving You" and delay-laden disco-funk badness of "Be My Baby", to the arms-raised disco-soul sweetness of "I'm Happy". He also delivers some thrilling West Indian disco deepness in the shape of "Caribbean Baby", and throws together all manner of classic disco samples on the suitably large "24-7", the EP's most obviously house-centric moment.

Review: Hampshire-based Groove Motion - AKA DJ/production duo Wayne Altham and Jack Henwood - describe their style as "bangin' soulful music". Certainly, there's plenty of soul to be found throughout this debut release for Midnight Riot. Throughout, they impeccably blur the boundaries between re-edits, remixes and original productions, delivering new takes on classic tracks with plenty of cool musical flourishes. Check, for example, the deliciously evocative piano solos on their breezy house version of The Jones Girls' "Nights Over Egypt" (here renamed "To The Music"), or the sparkling guitars and tactile chords of Sade re-cut "Nothing Can". There's also a cheery, sun-flecked goodness to "So Good To Me", their house-friendly version of Donald Byrd's Paradise Garage classic "Love Has Come Around".

Review: Since first appearing on Midnight Riot earlier this year, scalpel-wielding re-edit duo South Beach Recycling has closely guarded their identities. Whoever they are, they have a knack for turning dusty disco jams - either well-known, or more obscure - into dancefloor gold, usually via a few well-placed filters, good chops, judicious use of loops and expert re-arrangements. This second EP is arguably stronger than their debut, containing as it does the string drenched, anthem-like swoops and builds of "Independent", the Latin-tinged, electric piano heavy summer madness of "Still Know U", and the on-point Afro-disco business of "Sanisha". Best of all, though, is "Satisfaction Action", a ten-minute trip into high-tempo disco-funk-meets-boogie territory.

Review: Another week, another new set of high grade re-edits from the Midnight Riot label. This time round, label boss Yam Who hands a debut to Stafford-based Dave Gerrard and Rob Bairstow's Greyskooledits project. Predictably, they head straight for peaktime dancefloors with opener "Saving My Love In", a brilliantly cut-up, hustlin' rework of a well-known disco classic. They dip the tempo a little on "Hesitate", impeccably stretching out and tweaking Salsoul Orchestra's "Runaway" for modern dancefloors. Even better is "Definite Strangeness", a brilliantly dubbed-out, beatbox electro tweak of Barbara Mason's "Another Man", while "Who Do You Think You Are" sees the duo brilliantly chop-up funk classic "Mr Big Stuff" in a vintage hip-hop breaks style.

The sax-laden '80s soul bounce of "Witness" - seemingly toughened-up with extra synth arpeggios - leads the way, before "The Rhythm" provides a dubby nu-disco-meets-Italo, instrumental work-out. The Spaniard is particularly good at crafting new dubs of classic boogie cuts, and "Get Away" - a smooth, head-nodding re-dub of Carol Williams' "Can't Get Away (From Your Love)" - is one of his finest to date. Finally, "60 Yard" goes further towards eyes-closed territory, as he extends and tweaks a guitar solo-laden chunk of '80s soul/synth-pop fusion.

Review: Argentinian-in-London seems to be building up something of a head of steam this year, delivering a swathe of fine releases on the likes of Sound Exhibitions, Masterworks Music, Hotbox Music and Midnight Riot. Here he returns to the latter with more tried-and-tested blends of disco re-edits and groovy house rhythms. His default mode - as expertly outlined on the soaring sweetness of "The Real Thing" and "Liquid Gold" - is effortless party starting, offering exactly the right balance between 21st century house swing and cheery disco authenticity. The EP also boasts a couple of reworks-of-edits, most notably from Midnight Riot boss Yam Who. His chunky, loopy version of "Music" is an undoubted EP highlight.

Review: Mr Absolutt has gone deep into the glitzy world of mid-80s soul for his latest, the "Show Girls" EP. We get the intense, male/female duet "Serious", the title track's saucy tropical grind, big-drummed pounder "Superfine" and cheap n' cheerful Italo-disco on "Bad Boys".

Review: Starting as he means to go on, Judge Funk debuts on Midnight Riot with some serious dancefloor law-giving on this five track banger. It's all about the 80s, with the highlight tracks including: an expertly tweaked and extended version of Shelia E/Prince's A Love Bizarre ("Wildest Dreams"), the manic energy of Klymaxx's Meeting In The Ladies Room ("Wildest Dreams") and a discreet rejig of a rare SAW Balearic mix of Princess' Saying I'm Your Number One ("Close To You").

Review: Grecian producers C Da Afro and J.B Boogie first joined forces last year, releasing an E.P of filter-heavy disco/house fusions on SpinCat Records. Here, the Athens-based duo delivers more similarly celebratory, party-ready fare for Midnight Riot. They begin with the rolling, 109 BPM goodness of "Feel My Life", a delicious fusion of sparkling synths, glittery guitar lines, smooth vocals and head-nodding grooves. "Together (Guitar Mix)" craftily turns a lesser-known, mid-tempo boogie jam into a guitar and synth solo-laden, eyes-closed monster. Best of all, though, is the shirts-off pomp of "Bad Disco Lady", which gains much of its dancefloor power thanks to the combination of extended, filter-laden breakdowns and notable drops.

Review: Guildford-based Evil Smarty is arguably best known for his collaborative work with Bad Barbie, though he has previously put out solo releases on Tonbe's Disco Fruit imprint. Here, he goes it alone once more, delivering a four-track missive of cheery reworks for Midnight Riot. "Hot" is a prize chunk of rolling disco-house built around a rising and falling piano line, jaunty horns, occasional synths and a booming groove. "Don't Want To Stop" is a starry disco-funk affair that benefits greatly from a beefed-up bassline and notable Clavinet lines, while "Take It" sees him charge off successfully into Afro-funk territory. Finally, he slows things down a little on the dreamy and loved-up "The Disco Beat".

Review: Here on Neon Dancer Mr Absolutt stays true to his name and goes absolutely pure on his homage to the sound of early RnB dancefloors. "Night Drive" is a hazy blend of What's Love Got To Do With It tropical synths and sultry Princess-esque grooves. Elsewhere "One Love" is fluffy boogie fun, "The Cross" is a twangier Paradise Garage-era raw funk jam and "Champ" is a hiNRG-funk crossover. A refreshing 80s vodka cocktail of an EP (no prizes guessing which brand).

Review: You can always rely on the Midnight Riot label to pick up a party. Seriously they'd get people dancing in a morgue. Here label favourite Ziggy Phunk turns in four sweet and tasty reworks of obscure 80s dance cuts. "Give It To You" is a soft focus helium-voiced disco cut that puts The Bee Gees to shame, "Some Kinda Lover" is nearly seven minutes of tight and sharp 80s electro-soul, "Sneak Preview" is a shiny filtered pop gem that bears more than a passing resemblance to early Madonna, and "Stand Up" is a sped up celebration of guitars and trumpets.

Review: It may be detox January for some, but for Yam Who, it's champagne o'clock as he sees his label series reach its tenth volume. There's a mind boggling 27 tracks featured here, a veritable smorgasbord of deliciously disco tuneage. Highlights include the chaotic hiNRG of Seamus Haji's "ReLoved", the tough, but soulful, jacker "Many Lovers" by Judge Funk and the smooth, synth-boogie of "Takes Me Out" by G Prajekts.
