Review: No, not that 'You Got The Love'. Rather than being yet another cover of a much-loved house anthem, this 'You Got The Love' is an original composition from Italian DJ/producer Domino DB that's got a raw 'n' strutty disco-funk-boogie feel in its original form, while the smoother remix from DJ Mark Brickman & Yam Who? brings the mid-00s soulful house vibes in spades - if you'd said it was a long-lost Defected release from Marc Evans or Ron Hall & The Muthafunkaz I'd have believed you. The original nudges it in the energy stakes, but the remix has the cool jazzy Rhodes licks so let's call it a draw...

Review: Now based in Boston, Massachussetts, British producer Ben Adams AKA GMGN (the name stands for 'good morning, good night') serves up five solid tracks for Midnight Riot, most of which have something of a late 90s/early 00s filter disco feel. 'That Feelin'' centres around a fluttering six-string riff, 'You Are My Love' foregrounds a female vocal sample, 'Let It Go' is a deeper, funkier groove, 'I'm The One' loops up AOR-ish samples in a Balearic kinda way and then finally 'Train To Love' is a slower, chuggier cut that brings the EP to a hazy, looping close.

Yes U Can
Yes U Can - (5:35) 115 BPM Hot
Inch Of A Prince - (6:47) 110 BPM
Review: Prolific scalpel sort Disco Funk Spinner returns to Midnight Riot with another double dose of tried-and-tested re-edit business. Many diggers will recognize the source material for "Yes U Can", a 1982, P-funk flavoured jam from a roller-boogie great (and his macho accomplice) that the Disco Funk spinner has subtly toughened up and straightened out via the use of organic sounding additional percussion. In contrast, "Inch of a Prince" is a sleazy, seductive, eyes-closed disco smoker full of breathy female vocals, crisp guitar licks, sparkling melody lines and a suitably elastic bassline. Like its predecessor, it's a rock solid edit that should suit all those who like to sprinkle a little eccentric disco magic into their sets.

Review: As it is now 15 years since the birth of his Yam Who? project, Midnight Riot main man Andy Williams is naturally in a celebratory mood. To mark the occasion, he's releasing a series of 'Best of' collections featuring a mixture of original productions and remixes. There's naturally tons to set the pulse racing on this second compilation, from the chunky revivalist boogie brilliance of Williams' previously unreleased dub of the Patchworks Band's 'Rock Your Body' and the Rhodes-laden, jazz-funk-goes-nu-disco warmth of his revision of Situation's superb 'Take Me Or Leave Me', to the bass-heavy, string-laden disco-house chunkiness of his Din Jay remix ('Sweet & Sour') and the soulful house-meets-electrofunk goodness of the Phil Jaimes' rework ('My Sensitivity').

Review: If you haven't been keeping up with UK disco/funk/boogie merchant Andy Williams AKA Yam Who?'s recent work then here's a chance to get up to speed, as Midnight Riot present the first volume in a two-part collection of his 2019 output. Despite the title, there's only one original production in this set, Jaegerossa collab 'This Man's In Love With You': the rest of the album comprises remixes for the likes of Michael Gray, Jaki Graham, Los Charly's Orchestra and Moussa Clarke, and suffice to say any cuts haven't yet been on heavy rotation at the likes of Horse Meat Disco and Glitterbox soon will be! Contemporary mirrorball vibes at their best.

Review: Sub-titled 'Late Night Cruisin' Classics', Midnight Riot's first compilation dedicated to Yacht Rock & Disco is a loved-up saunter through colourful hybrids of blue-eyed soul, revivalist disco and the kind of slick and soulful nu-disco that sounds like it should be sound-tracking a sea-bound party put on by millionaire playboys. Across the compilation you'll find shiny cover versions of blue-eyed soul classics (Change Request's 'Lowdown' and DJ Mark Brickman's 'I Keep Forgettin'), deliciously downtempo excursions of the Balearic kind (the sugary street soul flex of Saucy Lady & U-Key's 'What You Won't Do For Love', Sweetooth's simply superb 'So Into You', the Ned Doheny-ish excellence of JIM's 'Whisper In The Wind'), and a really quite remarkable Sade cover (Samma's 'Sweetest Taboo'). In a word: lovely.

Review: Rayko either never sleeps, or just works ridiculously quickly. Either way, his productivity is hugely impressive. Here he pitches up on Midnight Riot with another quartet of colourful re-edits in his distinctive style. The sax-laden '80s soul bounce of "Witness" - seemingly toughened-up with extra synth arpeggios - leads the way, before "The Rhythm" provides a dubby nu-disco-meets-Italo, instrumental work-out. The Spaniard is particularly good at crafting new dubs of classic boogie cuts, and "Get Away" - a smooth, head-nodding re-dub of Carol Williams' "Can't Get Away (From Your Love)" - is one of his finest to date. Finally, "60 Yard" goes further towards eyes-closed territory, as he extends and tweaks a guitar solo-laden chunk of '80s soul/synth-pop fusion.

Review: A rising star not just in the DJ world but now as a respected producer, Miss Kitty Katt has released a series of disco house workouts for some time - and her new Midnight Riot debut is no exception. Born and raised in Edinburgh into a soul music obsessed family, Natasha was introduced to rare soul, funk, boogie and rare disco from a young age. Some of her earliest musical influences would probably be classed as northern or modern soul. "Let's Make Love" is already causing dance floor mayhem with its fervent love fever, whilst the lo-slung boogie down jam "Windy City" is given a modern day revision. Originally a pirate radio anthem in the late 80s, Natasha Kitty Katt has turned out an intense late night bumper, full of swagger and will be a go to classic for years to come.

Review: Four quintessential examples of editing finesse as newcomer Wonkar explores his extensive soul and boogie collection. With full emphasis squared on the slinky basslines, slower tempos and languishing grooves, each cut is a shimmering highlight in itself. He's also done shown some sensitivity to the art of digging without going too obscure. Notable moments include the stuttering '80s drum-heavy repurpose of Xena's "On The Upside" and the chubbed up low-end of Starpoint's "Last Night". There's also some cheeky Gap Band references buried deep in this killer EP too. Get this upside your head as soon as possible!

He is founder and owner of the legendary vinyl store Camino Records, DJ since 1998, founder and owner of Strutmode Recordings - in addition to being one half of Janova Jacks and Southside High. From the slo-mo/lo-slung sleaze of "Funking It Up" and the title track - which is followed by by an electric rendition by label stalwarts Yam?Who and the late night boogie down groove of "Flashback" - it is clear that Brian Snr can bring the funk, whatever the occasion!

Review: The source material for 'Why You Wanna Do That' has us beat but there's no way the Dutch duo of Ed Burley and Richard Marinus - that's Midnight Riot regulars Disco Sparks, to you - have come up with that chorused 80s disco/soul/boogie vocal on their own! Said vocal sits atop a backing made up of crisp 4/4s and a seriously fat-assed 80s bassline, and is joined by energising brass fanfares and handclaps that just don't stop... dancefloor stompery and peaktime euphoria at the likes of Glitterbox is 100% guaranteed. Review: Having previously tasted success by delivering re-edits and reworks of disco and boogie cuts, the latest Midnight Riot missive flips the script. It features rising house producer Chaka Kenn delivering reworks that pay tribute to the glory days of house in the late 1980s. "Why Waste Your Time" is a perfectly executed revision of a well-known favourite from the turn of the '90s, with the producer making great use of the original's sparking piano riffs, synthesized string stabs, bouncy synth bassline and snippets of the familiar vocal. It's accompanied by an arguably even stronger Dub and "Who's At The Front Door", which seemingly stitches together bits from classic deep house tracks that all have the same title (listen, and you'll get what we're on about).

What I'd Do (radio mix) - (3:44) 120 BPM
Review: Having impressed heads via an impressive array of re-edits and original productions on his own Disco Legends and Soulful Legends imprints, house and nu-disco producer Twism pops up on Midnight Riot for the very first time. "What I'd Do", which is available in full-length and radio edit variations, is an enjoyable, on-point revision of a soaring, late '70s style disco bumper rich in strong choruses, prominent "walking" bass, punchy horn refrains, rising orchestration and clipped, Chic style guitar motifs. Oh, and some suitably tasty synthesizer solos. Twism has beefed up the groove underpinning the original track a bit, but his additional production is subtle enough to sit naturally and not sound forced. As a result, "What I'd Do" is one of the stronger re-edits we've heard this month.

Review: Through his releases on Midnight Riot and sister label ISM, Danny Kane has proved time and again that he's one of the British nu-disco scene's greatest funk-soul-disco fusionists. We Come In Peace, his debut album, further confirms the Birmingham producer's rising star status via a mix of previously released singles, unheard workouts and a handful of fine remixes from such talented producers as J Kriv, Qwestlife and Art of Tones. Our picks of an extremely strong bunch include disco-funk/boogie fusion number 'We Come in Peace', revivalist '80s soul gem 'Do It Right', dreamy boogie-house roller 'Octopussy', future disco scene anthem 'Good Love' and his swirling, all-action disco-house collaboration with Natasha Kitty Katt, 'Ascend to Love'.

All Night - (6:09) 117 BPM
Juicy Laugh - (5:02) 115 BPM Hot
Review: Djeko and K'You may be French, but they operate out of Mexico - a fact that partly explains the humid and colourful feel of their first single for Midnight Riot. They hit the ground running with "All Night", a razor-sharp, synth bass-driven peak-time chugger rich in layered hand percussion, bold piano motifs and loved-up vocal snippets. It's sparse but heavy, propelled forwards by the kind of bassline that will wind its way into your subconscious. "Juicy Laugh" is similarly inclined, with the pair constructing a rolling peak-time workout around tough-but-stripped-back drums and another bold synthesizer bassline, this time plucked (or more likely copied) from one of the biggest freestyle-era hits of the 1980s.

Review: North Sea dweller and nu-disco diver Headpocket hasn't rested on his laurels since the recent release of his Tubular Vision album, already returning with this Tropical Golf EP on the mighty Midnight Riot. There are four new sizzlers here, all of which veer on the deep side of things but it different ways: "Headstrong" is synth-drenched 80s disco-soul, "Fade to Blue" is soothing piano house, "Bottlejack Settledown" fuses holiday cocktail-house vibes with live funk guitar, but best of all is "50 Dog 100 Dog" which is a deliciously melancholic sunkissed Balearic/Italo-disco instrumental. Gorgeous!
