Mireia

Club nights and festivals are a rather volatile endeavor, fleeting memories of euphoria and sweat. To balance out these emotions and to literally add weight (130gr per unit) RSS Disco run Mireia Records since 2011.

The opportunity to give beloved music of friends and contemporaries a physical form and design; to create something unique drives RSS Disco into the workshop: getting their hands dirty during screen printing or stamping sessions.

MOMA New York added Mireia’s fifth release, Tomemitsu’s “In Dreams”, a collaboration with the artist Stefan Marx, to their permanent collection. Physical releases may hopefully serve as an artifact but at the same time the label from Hamburg wants to keep the music accessible around the world by releasing digitally whenever possible.

Artists that released on Mireia Records:
Achim Maerz, Aera, Casino Times, Christopher Rau, Conga Fever, Das Komplex. Dance Station, Filburt, Jacob Korn, Jacques Bon, Johanna Knutsson, Johannes Klingebiel, Julian Stetter, Lauer, Lakeshouse, LeRoy, Marcus Worgull, Matt Karmil, Oberst & Buchner, Prins Thomas, Pin Up Club, Rigopolar, Skygirl, SONNS, Tomemitsu, The Building, Volker, Zombies in Miami and RSS Disco themselves.

Review: Some 11 years after making their bow Mireia founders RSS Disco are finally ready to drop their debut album, Mooncake. It's an atmospheric and stylish affair all told, with the Hamburg-based threesome offering a wealth of high-quality tracks in their now trademark style. That means a boundary-blurring blend of sparkling nu-disco, crunchy post-electro, new wave revivalism and the chugging, arpeggio-driven pulse of vintage Italo-disco. Our picks of a strong bunch include starry, melodious throb-job 'Irusu', dreamy shuffler 'Bay Owl', the sunny and immersive 'Firm Shake', glassy-eyed slow-motion number 'Blinkenlights' and suitably cosmic recent single - and title track - 'Mooncake'.

Review: Hamburg-based trio RSS Disco recruit Scandidisco don Prins Thomas to remix the latest offering on their own Mireia label. My notes for 'Mooncake' in its original form read simply "slow and dense" - that's not a description of the artists, you understand, but rather of the moody, claustrophobic feel to the track, which is sure to find its way into many an afternoon, warm-up or afterhours set, and which sports a very Euro-sounding spoken female vocal. For dancefloor action, though, the man from Oslo's Diskomiks is likely the better bet, as he ups the tempo just slightly while adding some dubwise flourishes.
