Mokum Holland

MOKUM RECORDS
WE’RE BACK………………..

Mokum Records started out in 1993, when hardcore was just about to take off in the Netherlands.
Untill then Rotterdam had been the main centre of hardcore productions in the Netherlands (and in fact worldwide) and Mokum (which is actually an old slang word for Amsterdam) was the Dutch capital’s answer to the scene.
In a few years time both Mokum Records and the hardcore scene in Holland exploded to gigantic proportions – raves of 20.000 gabbers were no exception and the whole movement became a specific cultural phenomenon in the Netherlands with their own fashion, drugs and gadgets.
Mokum Records released lots of 12”s, compilations and artist albums and built up a steady and credible catalogue through the likes of DJ Chosen Few, DJ Dano, Tellurian and Technohead.
And besides their home grown talent Mokum had been welcoming a lot of foreign guests with their productions, such as Lenny Dee, Scott Brown, the Speedfreak, Omar Santana and Walter One, just to name a few.
In just 6 years time Mokum released close to 100 12”s, including all-time classics ‘Name of the DJ’ and ‘I wanna be a Hippy’.
The last one being Hardcore's biggest commercial hit ever with top 10 listings from the UK to Ecuador.
The label was huge in the Netherlands and developed loyal followings in Scotland, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, France and the city of Los Angeles, where legendary Mokum parties were organised with a special selection of Mokum artists and DJ’s.

In 1999 the scene as well as the music suffered a huge collapse due to massive pollution of low-quality commercial ‘happy hardcore’ music, which made the movement to go back underground with small parties and an active internet community.
But as ‘hardcore will never die’ the music slowly gained back popularity and in 2003 the first big parties were back on the map.

In 2004 Mokum returned to the scene and started off with MOK100 and releases from both new artists and original Mokum artists with new tracks as well as remixed classics.
Now in 2022 we are at MOK267 and almost 30 years after the kick-off in 1993.
A number of key original artists like DJ Chosen Few, Technohead, DJ Dano, Tellurian and Wicked XXX still cover the roster. But also a lot of new artists from all over the world are active on the label.
From Italy we have The Twins Artcore (responsible nowadays for the Fucking Hardcore compilations), Formek and Tha KroniK.
We have M-Project (responsible for the Fucking Hardcore Tokyo compilations) and Kamikaze from Japan – Peckerhead and Rodox Trading from Denmark, Rancor Spike and Corrat from Russia and DJ K.O.R.E and the God Squad from the USA to name a few.

We will end this year with two great compilations – Fucking Hardcore Tokyo #2 (november 24) and Fucking Hardcore #14 (december 22) and get prepared to our 30th year anniversary in 2023.

Hold on all your motherfuckers – will be continued!!!
