Review: Blindside is back and ready to cause some serious damage on this brand new five track selection, coming to us courtesy of the ever-ready Monsters Music team. Opening up with the earth-shattering synth bumps of 'Horror Show' and swampish bass squelches of 'Smoked' in hot pursuit, it's very clear the whole EP is going to be one hell of a ride. We then explore 'Drop The Bass' which strips the heaviness back a tad with some unique sound design on display, followed by both the growling LFO swipes of 'Brainless' and super wonky basslines of 'Slab' to close us off. What a run this is!

Review: Monsters Music over the years has become somewhat of a flagship flyer for the grittier side of the dubstep spectrum, with a number of their artists leading the way on that side of the scene. However, this time around, they have touched down with a wicked new standalone drop from ROI OS, taking us into much deeper waters with 'Level 0'. Focussing in heavily on hard hitting sub-processing and heavily delayed drum stamps, this is an original that deserves to be spun on the most heavyweight systems, with the tracks low-end being simply sublime in its creation. An awesome, unexpected treat!

Review: Monsters Music have such a fantastic reputation for pushing the boundaries of what dubstep can be, but usually on the more raucous side of the table. This time around the tables turn dramatically as 'Calls From The Catacombs' sees them welcome a range of top quality artists inside for a much more emotive set of displays. From the dreamy backdrops of Lil Night Vision's 'Talkin Up A Storm', to the chunky drum punches of Qwirk's 'Dangerous Sound' and the haunted clock-chimes of Krimma's 'Don't Be Afraid', this project represents a fantastic exploration into the future of the Monsters brand. Our favourites would include the mind-melting synth creation of Activated's 'Sesh Monster' original, alongside the subtle creeping string slides of 'Myers' from Nightmare & Oni. Exciting stuff for sure!

Review: With the Monsters Music imprint always looking to push the envelope when it comes to futuristic dubstep flavour, it's always exciting to see a new compilation drop and to see the artists they are pushing to the forefront. From start to finish, this project holds some of the gnarliest 140 drops of the year, from the squelching bassy goodness of Chaimba & Darkz's 'Amplify Skank', to the system shattering subs of No Remorse's 'Forgiven' and the metallic janks of 'Decrepit' from Yugen. The whole project is a homage to the more heavyweight, synth-driven side of dubstep in 2023, with standouts including the sub-driven mastery of 'Jezero' from Bulker, the scatty synthesiser madness of Sh?m's 'It's A Square One', and the euphoric melodies of DEFIVNT's 'Falling' epic. 25 tracks, 25 heaters!

Review: It's been a brief minute since the Monsters Music crew gave us a not box of toys to try out, but this new drop from the wonderful combination of Katch & OZ is a perfect way to wake us back up. We begin with the gorgeous synth glides and electrifying melodies of 'Endeavour', followed by the aquatic percussive pulses of 'Sanctum' and higher-paced drum scrunches of 'Composite', giving us a seriously tasty bit of steppers energy, tied together nicely with purple melodic twists throughout. OZ then steps out for a fireball overhaul of 'Endeavour', giving a spacey-feel, slamming up the synthetic pressure with some juicy results, before the heavily syncopated digital chaos of 'Actuator' gives us our final slice of fun, rounding off this forward thinking collection in style!

Review: Jumping straight back into the ruckus, we are very happy to see Blottarz arrive on Monsters Music for a super syncopated shelldown, across five new sizzlers. Opening up with the title track 'Brawler', we come face to face with a a mutated synthetic demon of a riddim, focussing on intricate rhythmic switches and warping subs, with the eerie pad textures of 'Sonder' and more classic, LFO driven dungeon flavours of 'Yess'. The lethal sub-textures of 'Gutter Dub' then arrive to add an even more potent bounce to the tracks low end, with Siskiyou joining the party for one last dance in 'Clunk', a seriously weighty showcase of sub-bass manoeuvres and drippy drum design to round the EP off in style!

Review: For this long awaited album-length outing from Nightmare & Oni, we have to immediately suggest that the listeners take it in as a whole body of work on long play, with the soundscapes, synthetic design and drum arrangements all telling their own unique stories as the tracklisting progresses. From the swampy war-like arrangements of 'Kings Of The Jungle', to the industrial metallic splashes of 'Colossus' and percussion-lead rhythms of 'Elemental Technique', this project is a true masterclass in 140 design, dragging us left, right and centre with a serious amount of panashe. Again, this is a project that needs to be taken in via a full long listen, but our immediate highlights would have to include firstly the album version of 'Vantage Points', a stunning display of softened synthetic harmony and shimmering percussive energy. Next to this, the playful woodwind and dubwise drum work of 'Generation Dub' gives us an entirely different direction to explore, with our final highlight then being the delicate harp plucks of 'Subtleties'. What a collection this is!

Review: It's always good to see the Monsters Music crew back in action, who have unveiled a scatty masterclass in futuristic dubstep design with this one as Motar arrives with four dancefloor ready warblers. We begin with the title track 'Epiphany', a glittering dip into the more raucous side of the riddim sound with a fabulous display of synthetic overloads taking a lead role, before Motus joins the party for some collaborative energy on 'Turbowave', another system slapping grizzlebox. From here, more sliding synthesizer drives as 'Alive' unleashes syncopated rhythms and alarm-like bass tones, before the Circus-like melodies and bouncing drums of 'Rikka' rounds the project up with a fun outro. Great work!

Review: Next up from the hard-hitting Monsters Music imprint, the heavyweight flavours of Stayns make an appearance across this killer 5 track display. This is a masterful display of riddim-inspired dubstep dominance, kicking off with the bleeping textures and sweeping LFO swipes of 'Moist Level' and speaker-rattling synthesizer thwacks of 'Carbonated Cxm Jar'. The pace only quickens as we advance, with 'Poo Gazers'. A bizarrely named original delivers another shower of gnarly texture, with the more stripped back drum approach of 'Barktune' then taking the lead role. Finally, 'Villanueva' arrives to provide an additional layer of depth to the EP as icy soundscapes are sprinkled atop hard hitting kick punches and snare pummels to give us a much more melodic outro than we were expecting.

Review: It would appear that the great and good have gathered for this brand new Monsters Music incited madness as they unleash the second edition of 'Friends With Monsters', a potent compilation series showcasing some of the most exciting names in 140. The tracklisting is magnificent, featuring 20 powerful bass-driven 140 originals, with the likes of Sh?m, AD, Stinkahbell, Roklem, Sebalo & a bag more all making powerful appearances. For us, there are a couple of clear standouts, with the haunted, eastern-inspired string work and clunky percussion of Nightmare and Oni's 'Tomb', the electronic sounding LFO growls of LV's 'Eliminate' and the robotic bass chops of 'Wushu' from Blindside being the originals that rise to the top of the pile. Powerful business indeed!

Review: Next up from the Monsters Music team, we witness a pretty monumental drop from Stinkahbell, who unveils a seven track selection, exploring the more tearout side of the steppers sound. We begin with the lethal bass melodies and catchy vocal lines of 'Running Amuck', before the super squelchy synth twistups of 'Fully Loaded' and lethal bass triplet smashes of 'Daddy Issues' work their way into play. The EP then takes a more stripped back direction as sizzling sub-heavy basslines are deployed on 'Manifesto', before the notable pitch shifting melodies of 'Capricious' and heavy snare smashes of 'WTFITR' send us back up the frequency spectrum. Finally, 'Carbon Monoxide' gives us a very unusual note to end upon, combining electronic vocal melodies with an unpredictable synth slap, rounding off a very powerful body of work!
