Review: Bader is one of the best contemporary house producers, and he proves his mettle on Shades. "Super Bell" sees heavy drums and hissing percussion providing the basis for a seductive French vocal that insinuates itself in and out of the rhythm track, accompanied sporadically by chiming bells. "Rabbit Noise" is more upfront and functional, with tough drums and a rippling bassline underscoring slivers of trancey synths, while "Way to Mexico" follows a similar path, but the focus is on the interplay between muffled vocals and building chords. Completing the package, label owner Matthias Tanzmann also delivers a slamming, percussive take on "Super Bell".
Review: Roll out the red carpet as bouncing UK duo Camelphat arrive on Moon Harbour with vocals from Cari Golden. "Freak" sees the pair, still hot from collaborations with Riva Starr and other records on Circus Recordings, turn in an industrial tinged vocal single preaching all matter of seduction and sin to the self-isolating dancers out there. Bossman himself Matthias Tanzmann beefs up the original in a bassline driven, tribal house context with edited vocals for the best of fever dreams! To the club!
Review: No matter what the title says, there's not much noodling going on here. Both "Los Pollos Hermanos" and "Fish Fingers & Custard" are dense, rolling rhythms that provide the backdrop for breathy vocals and filtered breakdowns - and make for ideal DJ tools. However, Drastic also shows that he has a musical side and the title track sees him intertwine deep chords and dreamy filters with his dense, DJ-friendly grooves. Martin Buttrich's version also delivers the unexpected, with a slap bass and building acid lines ensuring that the tribal beats don't veer into anonymous territory .
