Review: Operator follows his 2021 release on Mord with this hard-hitting selection. With a focus on the dance floor throughout, Spirits... explores club techno in its various shapes and forms. "Canopy" and "Hop Along Now" are tough club tracks, powered by tribal drums. "Watashi No Gyangu" sees him go deeper, as moody synths soar over a rolling rhythm. "Evasions" marks another shift, as an angular groove unravels over staccato kicks. "Bottom of the List" embraces dub influences, with dense textures set to a driving groove. The release ends on a frenetic note, with the wild filters and intense, rolling rhythm of "Benthic Laboratory on Enceladus".

Review: Uun returns to Mord to deliver his third artist album. Heavens... sees him use his advanced sound design to present a wide range of styles. "Apocrypha" revolves around subtle break beats and dreamy synths that are filtered to a euphoric climax. In contrast, "Euclidean" and "Never For The Ever" are dense, hypnotic tracks designed for late night use. "Truth And Absolution" sees the release take a darker turn. Powered by hammering kicks and hypnotic tones, it exudes a sense of mystery while lighting up the dance floor. There are other instances where Uun's cerebral aesthetic looms large. Intoxicating levels of hypnosis are present on the tunnelling groove of "Geoglyph", while "Chiaroscuro" is a wonderfully cinematic track.

Review: NWHR's Hereje EP is a subterranean dive into the primal core of techno. The Buenos Aires artist delivers a raw and uncompromising sonic assault on Mord Records. "Sangre Desperdiciada" is a high-octane, sci-fi-infused banger that pulses with relentless energy. It's a track that demands attention and commands the dancefloor. The follow-up, "El Juicio Del Escorpion," is a menacing journey through tribal techno territory. "Sombra Del Destino" delves into darker, more haunting territory. Its brooding ambiance and shadowy textures create a sense of unease and intrigue. "Sombra Del Camino," a foreboding ambient piece that descends into the depths of the underworld, is dark, with atmospheric tones leaving a lasting impression, lingering long after the final notes fade.

Review: Alexey Dunchyk's "Dark Therapy EP" is a brooding exploration of techno's darker underbelly for MORD's KAZERNE imprint. The EP is a relentless assault on the senses, characterized by driving rhythms, harsh textures, and a bleak atmosphere. Tracks like "Uncontrolled Emotion" and "Barmaley" are characterized by their caustic textures and pounding rhythms, while "Specific Objects" delve into darker, more experimental territory. This is techno stripped to its core, delivering a punishing yet exhilarating experience.

Review: Next up on MORD sub-label Kazerne is Lakej, who has released on influential imprints like Semantica and Edit Select. Nerve Control sees him deliver four very distinctive tracks. The title track revolves around a searing analogue riff and a bruising industrial rhythm, making for techno at its most elemental. "Fabrications" is also designed for the dance floor, but Lakej follows a different path, focusing on dense tribal drums and a relentless groove. "Archenemy" sees him deliver a coruscating metallic rhythm powered by relentless filters, while he shifts gear again on "Walking Wounded". Centred on a stepping rhythm and thunderous drums, it's like Lakej's own version of Downwards techno.

Review: On Taken Away, MORD's offshoot continues its mission to deliver hard-edged but inventive techno. The work of Ruman, it applies experimental sensibilities to the dance floor. The brilliantly-named "They Were Dying of Old Age, That's It" is led by gnarly kicks and noisy percussion, with Ruman layering in intense bleeps. Similarly, "Faced With A Formful of Clever People" resounds to high-paced, bass frequencies. While the dense, rolling "Look At It" and the grainy drums of "10,000 Hours" both point to a clubbier approach, the overall approach is intense and visceral - most ably embodied by the grating riffs and high-paced industrial techno of "Mary Got A Quarter".

Calm Chaos - (5:43) 137 BPM
Review: Michel Lauriola is the latest artist to grace MORD sub-label Kazerne - and Calm Chaos is sure to appeal to fans of tough club techno. The release starts with the dense, rolling groove of "Complete" before Lauriola ups the tempo and intensity for "The Wait" and "Basic Solution". Led by pounding rhythms and grinding riffs, they are the very essence of uncompromising industrial techno. While it's just as pacy, "Returns" revolves around a rolling groove. Lauriola also shows his ability to venture down a more experimental path on the gnarly "Twang", where noisy sound scapes unravel over an offbeat rhythm. The title track is in a similar vein, with Lauriola dropping a dense groove that skews more towards the dance floor.

Review: Lewis Fautzi returns to MORD after a string of releases for Soma, Pole and his own Faut Section imprint. The title track resounds to frosty synth loops and fractured percussion, with this combination unfolding over lead-weight kicks. On "Danger or Threat", Fautzi goes deeper. Reverberating claps and subtle filters are to the fore as he sketches out a dubby but still dancefloor-focused track. In contrast, "Confused" is a pared back minimal track. Led by a galloping groove, it sees Fautzi drop dissected percussion. Rounding off the release is "Unprincipled". Centred on a driving rhythm, it's a dense affair, grounded in textured percussion and powered by tough kicks.

Review: Oliver Rosemann takes a break from his Recorded Things label to deliver this killer EP for MORD. With a focus on hard-hitting sounds, Spells and Wonders is a no-nonsense techno release. "The Disappearing Act" gets the release off to a bruising start, with robust drums supporting relentless hi hats. This approach is mirrored on the steely, slamming "The Pledge and The Turn". Meanwhile, Rosemann adds a sense of drama to the release on "The Grand Illusion", where eerie string stabs cut through the piledriving rhythm. The tempo and intensity levels move up a few notches on "The Human Cannonball", while "Smoke and Mirror" rounds off the release with a menacing, bass-heavy coda.

Review: For his third artist album, Peter Trimbacher aka Metapattern has landed on Mord. It's a good fit because the label has always bridged the gap between abstract sounds and hard, industrial techno. Silicone Cell embodies these sensibilities. "Construct Of Impurity" teems with waves of droning bass and tingling metallic percussion, but it avoids the dance floor. "Cleansing" also features layers of gnarly percussion and bass tones that create a striking abstract piece. In contrast, "Artificial Awareness" is a hypnotic, chiming groove, while on "Descent Into Oblivion", Trimbacher delivers the kind of tough, lean techno that Mord is known for. There's also a hint of the dystopian vibe that Bay Mooy's label occasionally gives off, audible of the mechanical stepping rhythm of "Miasma".

Review: With releases on EarToGround and Warm Up, PWCCA already has a respected catalogue. Now he brings his hard-edged sound to Bas Mooy's label. Fans of hard, industrial-flavoured techno will find much to love here. Both "Blood Stream" and "Conscious Sedation" are corrosive, abrasive workouts, while "Inert Condition" and "Asleep" are led by acrid acid lines. "Sedative Process" sees PWCCA veer into a more abstract direction. Led by bleak bass tones, these elements hang on a stepping groove. He also makes nods to 90s influences. The dense drums on "Depressed Level" are redolent of Lost Recordings techno, while the noisy intensity of "Review Phase" calls to mind the output of labels like Sativae.

Review: Following last year's album on Axis, Diego Teijeiro aka Oxygeno delivers this superb, hard-hitting release for Mord. "Flames Around" is a bruising, broken beat track. At the heart of the arrangement is a swung rhythm, underscored by visceral kicks and whooshing filters. Both "Driving to Nowhere" and "Through My Veins" are straight, linear tracks. Inspired by the sonic extremities of Jeff Mills' Waveform Transmissions series, they see Oxygeno drop coruscating riffs and razor-sharp, steely percussion over pounding kicks. "Magnetism" favours a similar approach, albeit with acid tones augmenting the hard-edged groove. The spectre of 90s techno also looms large on "Unpunished". On this occasion however, Teijeiro draws on the hypnotic tones of Richie Hawtin's "Substance Abuse" to create a modern-day techno masterpiece.

Review: Following a strong series of releases on Warm Up and his own Senoid imprint, Kike Pravda debuts on MORD with High Voltage. As its title suggests, it's an energetic release. "Octane" sets the tone with an acid-soaked, rolling groove, while "Dark Flares" sees him deploy a pulsating, hard-edged rhythm.
Pravda's style is also informed by those in his orbit; on "Singularity", that takes the shape of Mike Parker-style low-frequency tones and Oscar Mulero's wall of percussive noise. That's not to suggest that High Voltage is in thrall to prevailing tropes or styles. "Noiser" is a hypnotic, undulating groove and the title track is an exhilarating white-knuckle ebm techno ride.

Review: Celebrating their tenth anniversaries, Mord and RYC deliver this superb compilation. Given the depth and breadth of their collective experience, this collection spans a range of sounds and styles. At the deeper end of the spectrum, there's the wonderful 90s melodies of Ritzi Lee's "Neutropia" and Amotik's "Laal", where hypnotic, Sleeparchive-esque tones bubble up over a stripped back groove. On a break beat tip, Uvb's "Mortifere" is a dense, mesmerising club track, while Brendon Moeller's "Hot Pursuit" resounds to a clanging, steely rhythm. The compilation has no shortage of club tracks either: there's the all-encompassing tonal builds of Bas Mooy's "Vedette", Kaiser's coruscating minimalism on "Disciplined Soldiers" and the gloomy industrial breaks of Orphx's "Slipping Through My Fingers".

Review: Balancing depth with force, Stanislav Tolkachev delivers one of his career highlights to date. "Pockets Full of Lighters" starts the release in trance mode, with a cacophony of icy synths unfolding over a jagged rhythm. "Zero Seconds Ago" is more linear and direct, with the focus on steely drums and utilitarian percussion. "One-Armed Leg" sees Tolkachev venture to the outer limits of techno, soldering stepping beats with rough, visceral tones. On a more abstract note, there's the offbeat, skittering drums and tones of "Talking Drum". Tolkachev rounds off the release with "Till You Get It Off", a pitter-patter succession of tonal shifts.

Review: Raffaele Attanasio is a talented, versatile artist, who has previously released jazz-inspired music on Jeff Mills' Axis. For this appearance on Bas Mooy's label, it's all about the dance floor. "Rough Surfaces Part 1" is a tough tribal track featuring menacing synth lines. A similar approach is audible on "Lyr", with Attanasio adding vocal snippets into the driving rhythm. "Nuclear Superiore" is more tripped out, as he ventures down a sonic wormhole that resembles Mike Parker. Led by a throbbing bass and a swung rhythm, it's an esoteric but impactful piece. The second iteration of "Rough Surfaces" sees Attanasio redouble his focus on the dance floor as he drops a piledriving rhythm, while "Rukbat" is a bruising, linear club track.

Review: Next up on Mord's Kazerne series is Mystics, with a heavyweight release. "Act Of Faith" is powered by pounding kicks and coruscating riffs. On "Not Here" a similar approach applies, as Mystics puts the focus on a jarring rhythm and a buzzsaw bass. "Fake Three" is a more conventional club techno track, one that is centred on a driving rhythm and deft drops and builds. The title track revolves around broken beats and hypnotic tones, while Mystics turns to the dance floor again on "Brmngm". It's a punishing, industrial banger, in a Downwards vein. "Origins Origins" meanwhile, sees Mystics focused on tough drums - on a loop for maximum impact.

Review: Jose Chacon aka PWCCA makes his Mord debut with a heavyweight four-tracker. The title track gets the release off to a thrilling start, as a dense, grimy bass provides the backdrop for firing hi hats and punchy drums. "Circle Trip" further ramps up the intensity levels, with a distorted low end and pummelling kicks. There is no let-up either on "Wrong Destination". This time, the drums are denser than before, and they give a platform to shrill percussive volleys and an all-encompassing, frazzled riff. In comparison, "Failed Data" sounds laid back, but its stepping rhythm and textured filters still pack a powerful punch.

Review: Norbak has been prolific in recent years, releasing an album on Jeff Mills' Axis and a string of Eps for Pole, MindTrip and Soma. Now he returns to Mord, the label that put out Liberdade in 2021. The title track resounds to a clanging, steely rhythm and pounding kicks, with these elements acting as a backdrop for swirling textures. The mood is more subdued on "Retrato". While it retains a dance floor focus, at the heart of the arrangement is a throbbing bass and subtle layers of filtered percussion. "Chekhov's Gun" sees Norbak revert to a harder sound, deploying a stepping rhythm and clicking hi hats. "Ponto de Situa??o" is a pared back, Lost-style roller, led by doubled-up kicks.

Review: Rounding off 2022 in style, Mord delivers the hard-hitting Random Conditions. "Melting Shoes" is a tough tribal workout, powered by grimy kicks and acrid tones. "The Cleaner" is just as intense and sees Mist Gasp fuse filtered, cavernous chords with a powerful, driving rhythm. The release goes down a tripped-out rabbit hole on "Contention", where layered electronic textures flow over a pumping, hypnotic groove. This release also shows that Mist Gasp is a diverse producer; "Disguised Glue" follows an industrial, broken beat direction, while both "Blinked" and "I Do Not" are raw, frazzled analogue bangers that resound to pummelling drums.

Review: Bas Mooy's label brings together an impressive cast of producers for its latest compilation. The ominous bass on Mascon's "Nenner" lends the track an ebm sensibility, while Exium's "Dark Voids" is more in keeping with convention, fuelled by powerful filters and a steely, slamming rhythm. While there are intense contributions - in particular, Antony Doria's "Uprite" is visceral hard techno at its finest - Herdersmat impresses most when contributing artists provide their own interpretations of sub-genres. Takaaki Itoh's "Implement" is a mesmerising piece of hypnotic, droning techno, while on "Hdmt" UVB delivers a compelling version of Downwards' broken beat sound, replete with swirling textures.

Review: Ritzi Lee rounds off his trilogy for MORD with this hard-edged EP. "Control" is a visceral banger: powered by pitch-bent percussion and tough kicks, these elements play host to grinding electronic riffs. "Genesis" isn't as grimy and sees Lee deliver firing hi hats and insistent tonal bleeps to devastating effect. Meanwhile, "Wired" is exactly as its title suggests, with a wall of repetitive riffs unfolding over a percussive workout, while on "Re-Formation", Lee deploys the kind of stepping rhythm that one would associate with Oscar Mulero. Closing out the trilogy in style, "Humanized" is a dense, ghetto-style banger that reaffirms Lee's status as a purveyor of tough techno.
