Review: Ah yes, we'd forgotten that Ekoplekz and Mordant Music made some of the best and most daring bass music around, and we're super glad that they've decided to touch base for another album, this time in the form of a thirteen-track exploration spanning pretty much any genre imaginable. This album, and specifically their music as a unit, really has to particular genre per se, and it can only be described as an innovative blend of art and sound, a vocal experimentation that has its roots deeply grounded in an odd form of IDM. Dub is only there are a backbone, to hold together the wooly vocals and their glitchy melodies. it's an indescribable piece of work that merits all the attention in this week's bass chart. Trust us, your mates will be impressed.

Review: The shadowy Mordant Music resurrects from the depths of the bass world with a stunning new LP by newcomer Glass Isles and if you know a bit about the label already, you'll also know that it's bound to be music of the highest calibre given their impressive catalogue. Ekoplekz and Shackleton to name just a few. Boasting an impressive 20 tracks for a debut release, Glass Isles proposes a deep and ethereal sound, one that's bound in thick layers of dubby delays and hollow drones. Think of this this way: it's "bass" music for the experimenter, or rather sonic excursions into the most cavernous of neo-dub. Excellent and visceral throughout.

Review: The enigmatic and incorrigible Mordant Music throws another ace onto the table, and this time it's in the form of a tasty new EP by newcomer Donald Fraser. "Locomotion", as the title suggests, is a rhythmic bounce of liquid synths and sporadic beats made for those with an open mind. Mordant Music himself steps up for a remix of the same track, and the dude completely blows it to smithereens by adding in a growling bassline and a whole array of metallic synth trickery. Finally, the Ghost Train version sounds more like the original except the structure and sounds are now even more contorted. Another winner from the nutty UK imprint.

Review: In a glorious celebration of sour-faced, distinctly British punk poetry, Ekoplekz and Mordant Music get together once again for this short album of abrasive dub pulses and stream of consciousness wordplay. It's a potent combination that certainly has its roots in the dark side incantations of live Throbbing Gristle, albeit made richer with Ekoplekz's masterful arsenal of otherworldly squelches and splats. If anything his production gets channelled into a more focused structure when it has the words to work with, and it's no bad thing. Lyrically Mordant Music hits straight to the point, picking out contemporary references and drenching them in modern malaise in a tone fit for these sinister times.

Review: Given the expectancy hovering around a certain Cornish-rooted electronica artist making a comeback of sorts, it seems likely that Baron Mordant knew exactly what he was doing when teasing the source of this archival missive for Mordant Music as being a "nebulous collective with an analogue core" from "Cornwall 1992-1996". Whatever the case and whoever was responsible, it's a damn good thing that this expansive collection has been brought to light as it's quite magnificent. 22 tracks drenched in dour English tones and played out with a minimum of fiddly arrangements in favour of sustained ideas and hand-crafted magic to get any self-respecting electronica head giddy with excitement. Cue the lengthy online debates about who is responsible...

Review: The ever-impressive Mordant Music are back with their 11th instalment of the Travelogues series! As per usual, they've concocted a near ten-minute voyage through crackling semi-beats and sparse melodic planes - another showcase of their talent for slow but aggressively effective arrangements. Each single sound seems to have its own entity and ability to mould a path across the soundscape. The purring clicks which penetrate through the whole track are almost uncontainable although they never change in speed or pitch, but instead build ferociously thanks to their surrounding drones: a jungle of fusing bleeps, melting polyphonies and the engulfing white noise which holds the entirety of the piece together. Warmly recommended!

Review: Mordant Music has been pushing some seriously leftfield-sided music for a number of years now, ranging from murky, Shackleton style dubstep to weirder and exceptional drone-filtered techno. Label casual Tod Dockstader gets two healthy remixes by Mordant Music himself and electronic visionary, Ekoplekz. The Mordant remix is a relentless concoction of banging drums and psychedelic noises which build momentum from start to finish. Over on the flip, Ekoplekz takes a more experimental approach, with no drum arrangement ever really forming. In fact, it's the lower frequencies and its swamped melodies which move the track forwards and create only a shadow of a distant groove, somewhere out there in deep space. Mesmerising excursions for the connoisseur!
