Review: Belgian badness: Simskai makes his Murda Sound debut with two Rampage-ready sonic scud missiles. "Crazy" deftly plays Q&A between strange strings and an addictive bassline hook while "Program" goes in on the fun offensive with two rollercoaster basslines vying for attention and a mid-'90s trance-style counter melody on the build-up (think Da Hool) May Simskai's prolific assault long continue.
Review: Subject to a recent remix competition, Nu Elementz's 2013 bubble-cut "C4" enjoys four wide-ranging revisions from names old and new. Banzai takes the lead with a sharp, higher-toned stabbier riff that switches the original's funk for something much darker, Skew gets ugly with a texture that's not dissimilar to that of the one Decimal Bass used on "Work For Nothing", Dub Bezerka & TechPro completely remove the original bass ideas for an angry hornets nest style tone while Too Greezey creates soaking wet alien sounds for his bass twist. Each cut boasting a life of its own, the only thing preventing them from being complete originals is the use of the original spoken sample.
Review: Calling all eighth grade air violinists! Profile returns to Murda Sound Digital with "Watch Your Mouth", a track that harbours strings so dramatic they could raise Hitchcock from his grave. It's also home to one of the best potty-mouthed samples jump-up's enjoyed in a long time. "Control" strips back the instrumentation to allow the sinewy bassline to slur and grizzle over a well chiselled two-step. Freaky.
Review: Dangerous games: Desire builds on his Sub Salute, Death By Bass and Digital 101 supported repertoire with two unruly lashings of jump-up grit. "Killer Cops" is a trip into downtown Hurter City with a demonic tour guide voicing us with pure bad dream navigation. "Different Way" continues with the theme of heavy aggression but with added synth dynamics and a much more dramatic breakdown. Desirable.
Review: UK south coast filth-flinger Operate has been stealthily dropping twisted science on us for several years, including a debut album last year on Hostile Bass. Now stepping up to the ever-reliant Murda Sound platform he's delivered four more potty mouthed dark exercises; "Futher" is total grainy, distorted, chaotic paranoia, "Scatter" is lean, mean steppery with some chiselled bass groans, "Z Word" is a choppy, slap happy break frenzy with more cool squiggles and giggles than a chocolate-sponsored nursery. Finally "Uncertainty" shows Operate's spacier, star-gazing side. But don't get all too caught up in the smoky and lazers, there's a droning bassline to chow down on.
