Review: Reinhard Vanbergen follows his 2020 debut LP on Music For Dreams with another superb collection of mood music for the label. "Eb Numbers" and "Db Droplets" are dubbed out, mid-tempo groovers, while on "C After Dark", Vanbergen opts for the kind of balmy deep house that Kenneth Bager's label is known for. However, there is another side to this artist: "F Dreams" is a dark, bass-heavy groove, populated by eerie vocal samples, while he raises the tempo on the rolling "D Lighted" and "B Routine" is a busy, breakbeat workout, led by a jittery rhythm and incessant vocals.
Review: Turkish producer Tolga Boyuk aka Islandman released his brilliant Agit EP almost two years ago, but it's still worthy of some remixes so here we are. In fact, he releases two remix packs of the EP, with this first one seeing great remixes by Berlin's M.Rux (HHV/YNFND) who delivers a drifting and balearic version of the title track, while fellow Istanbul producer Anatolian Sessions (Art Vibes/Ready Mix) certainly delivers the standout here - with his emotive and ethereal deep house perspective. For those of you who did not check out his Rest In Space LP which came out on the label last year, it was terrific - do yourself a favour and check it out now!
Review: Kenneth Banger's Music For Dreams is one of those labels that's been riding below-radar for a while now, dipping and diving between electronica, pop, folk, and more, but that's precisely what appeals to us about the imprint. That mystery factor goes a long way in the underground circles. They've come through with a new conglomerate this week, the enigmatic Silent Riders, which could actually be just one producer, but we prefer to keep the mystery for the time being. The self-titled LP is a gorgeous twelve tunes of deep exploration, ranging from the broken, tooled-up industrialism of "Home", to the chilling outsider pop of Static", and the left field electro of "Being Afraid", all powered by the artist's singular voice - a cold yet seductive blend of mysticism and romanticism. We love this stuff, and it's pretty safe to say that we'll be hearing from Silent Riders again soon, so be there before the herd.
