UK-based drum and bass label Must Make Music dropped onto the circuit in 2018, thanks to label boss Jack Stevens aka Workforce (one half of Spectrasoul). So far set up as a platform to release Workforce’s own works, he sets his sights on the deep, smooth, ethereal, melodic and occasionally gravely 172bpm flavours. Releases on Must Make have featured mesmerising features and remixes from DnB warriors: Break, Halogenix, Tim Reaper, DRS and SP:MC.
Review: New Zealand new talent Azifm has blossomed in recent years, developing a powerful discography on Workforce's Must Make Music. This is his most accomplished dispatch to date, however, as he pays homage to his roots with 'Rakahuri Connection'. 'Easy 2 Love' breaks us in with a slightly slower tempo and far-away psychedelic keys, while 'Northside' goes full rural with mystical pipes over crisp rhythms. There's an added echo of NZ on 'Wasted Time' as the vocal sounds similar to fellow countryman Joe Dukie while 'Yeah Nah' looks more towards Azifm's newly laid UK roots with more of a bouncy old school Bristol bubbley vibe. All four cuts absolutely hit the spot, Azifm isn't messing around.
Review: Workforce was never sure if Must Make Music would release other artists' music besides his own when he first launched the label... Then he heard Azifm, an incredible talent from New Zealand who has a natural sense of groovemanship, musical contrast and jungle timelessness. One moment deep and reflective, the next slamming down with a gritty breakbeat vibe, his sound belies his young age and could appease young ravers and DnBoomers alike. And this is by far his best work to date. Highlights include the super springy snaps and pops of 'If Only' the rush-caked trance elements of 'Global' and the Breakage style bumpage of 'Actual Factual'. From darkness comes light...
