Crushfield - "Throwing Shade" - (5:36) 160 BPM
Review: Marshall's label delivers this fascinating split release. The title track is the work of the label owner and it sees him exploring a sublime, tranced-out take on modern techno. Crystalline synths sparkle and glimmer in the half-light as from below a buzzing, grainy bass hums and grinds. It's an assured mixture of sounds and Marshall shows himself well able to fuse the ethereal with the visceral. On the flip, Crushfield delivers "Throwing Shade". Focusing on bass-heavy electro, the arrangement is punctuated by gut-wrenching bass licks, resonating 808 rhythms and acid-soaked pulses. It may not be as sonically adventurous as Marshall's contribution, but there's no doubt that it packs a serious punch.
