Zero 7 & Sia - "Dreaming" (live Session) - (3:56) 97 BPM
Review: A definitive musical group of the 2000s, Zero 7 plotted the decade with a cabbage patch's worth of albums, middled by their celebrated 2006 LP, The Garden. A staggering 16 years since that influential release New State reintroduces the sounds of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker' project with a special edition that reintroduces Zero 7s electroacoustic jazz, trip hop, funk and classic downtempo sound. It reintroduces esteemed fellow collaborators Jose Gonzales and Sia, with highlights including Zero 7s "Seeing Things" and "My Place" with Gonzales' vocal touches adding a different kind of sublime to Sia's razzamatazz.
Review: It's been nigh on 30 years since Jon Marsh and co released their second album 'Happiness', which spawned the massive singles 'Hello' and 'The Sun Rising'. A collection of remixes called 'Blissed Out' followed eight months later, but that set has never had a digital release... until now, that is! As it probably inevitable with a collection of mixes that were tailored to the club tastes of 1990, one or two of the cuts haven't aged that well but there's still plenty to enjoy here, including two less-overplayed takes on 'Hello', the ragga-vocalled Muffin Mix of 'Time After Time' and the Ratpack-biting Special K Dub of 'Pablo'.
Review: According to London label New State, Paul Harris and Steve Smith of Dirty Vegas have really enjoyed the process of putting together Days Go By (The Retrospective). They have gone back over their work and picked out some of their favourites over the years - a whopping 18 tracks, 19 remixes and a continuous mix by Harris. Speaking of the remixes: the Dumont & Wagener remix of "Human Love" gets onto an emotive and Balearic tinged trip, the remix of "Electric Love" by NYC house hero Eli Escobar remix gets well funky, and the always impressive Parisian Fred Falke delivers a typically neon-lit rendition of "Emma" from several years back. Along the way, while searching through music, video and photographic archives it has brought back lots of memories for the duo - and given them new energy and inspiration for their future music plans.
