Review: The MPH wave is well and truly underway as he makes his return to the incredibly impressive Night Bass imprint for a full length LP adventure. Having already released numerous heaters on the LA-based label, it's very exciting to see everything arranged in one single place. Opening up the project we firstly explore '-Sunset-', a gorgeous retro soundscape focussed on fluttering synthetic crunches, which leads us into nostalgic vocal doubles and sweeping reeses of 'Doubt' as the project really kicks off. Next, 'Ghost' lets fly a ferocious display of powerful drum processing and warbling bass tones, with the gnarly reese drives of 'Rush' alongside Cecilia then giving us a serious rave stomper. We then get soulful twist up as the fabulous vocal overlays and purple synthetic backdrops of '-Sunrise-' are unleashed, with the fluttering chord progressions and shuffling shakers of 'California' arriving with just as much vim. Finally, 'R&R' sees Hamdi arrive for a typically classy collaborative effort, seeing the LP out with beautiful harmonic grooves and a bassline like no other!
Review: It's been well established over the last couple of years that the Night Bass movement has rapidly risen into one of the most impressive imprints in global dance music, with 2021 being another very successful year. This 'Best Of 2021' compilation is therefore jam-packed with explosive bangers from the full range of their fabulous roster, with the likes of AC Slater, Chris Lorenzo, Taiki Nulight, Zero, NOISY, BIJOU, Elcamino and more all making heavyweight appearances. The best thing for us about the Night Bass catalogue is the way thet champion both established names and rapidly rising stars of the future, with MPH's 'Nova' being one of the project's highlights with it's glittering arrangement and excellent use of atmospherics, next to the more experimental rhythms and unorthodox melodic switches of 'Pop Your Hip' from Body Ocean. The whole project is a real homage to international dominance of Night Bass, with the future looking even brighter still.
Review: The continued exploration into the UK sound from the Night Bass team has been very enjoyable to watch from a UK perspective, seeing the latest wave of garage and bass artists thrive on the international stage. Next up on their listing, they welcome the wonderful sounds of Oppidan to the team, who delivers three storming originals for our listening pleasure. We kick off with the groovy UKG flavours of 'Morning Miggy', which combines a stripped back drum approach with spacey, atmospheric pad textures and the occasional keyboard riff for a lively creation. Next, 'Colgate' sees Oppidan open up the jets and let her production skills run wild with one of the craziest garage originals we've heard in a hot minute, linking up super intricate garage rhythms with booming bass pulses and 8bit arpeggios with fantastic results. Finally, the classic, nostalgia-inducing sweeps of 'Motorola' put the finishing touches on another fantastic addition to the Night Bass catalogue.
Review: It has been one hell of a year for Hans Glader, the LA-based garage wizard whose sound continues to conquer global stages. He returns here to the legendary Night Bass imprint for a full four track display of his unique approach to 2-steppy flavours, kicking off with the luscious pad textures and distant saxophone lines of 'Culture'. From here the sumptuous vibes continue as the incredible soundscaping and general harmonic structures of 'Lumen' deliver a truly beautiful setting, followed by the more sub-heavy dips and weaves of 'Dimelo' alongside Night Bass founder: AC Slater. For us, this was already Hans Glader's strongest outing to date, but that's before 'Set You Free' elevates the whole project to an entirely new plateau with its sweeping string-like leads and groovy drum switches. Incredible work!
