Review: Last year, Valen made a splash with a fine debut on yoyaku offshoot Joule, the four-track fusion of slick minimal house, tech-house, breaks and enveloping deepness that was the Redsphere EP. The producer's first outing on Gunter's Normandy imprint is similarly impressive. Opener 'Archipalego' sets the tone, with the rising star wrapping spacey synth sounds and glitchy, far-sighted electronics around a classic, turn-of-the-millennium tech-house groove. 'Chemical Affinity' peppers a bumpin' rhythm track and bolder bass with jaunty but intergalactic stabs, while 'Sci-FI' sees Valen join the dots between the sub-heavy, deep space shuffle of classic bleep & bass and glassy-eyed tech-house futurism.
