Founded in 1988 by Frank and Karen Mendez, Nu Groove Records quickly established itself as a cornerstone of the burgeoning New York house music scene. Nu Groove's early success hinged on the talent of the Burrell brothers, releasing their genre-defining anthems like "Love and War" and "My Love Is Magic." This success wasn't confined to a single sound; the label championed artists like Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez and Masters at Work, showcasing its eclectic taste and willingness to push boundaries.
While its original run ended in 1992, Nu Groove's legacy endures. In 2017, Defected Records acquired the label's catalogue, ensuring its timeless tracks remain accessible to new generations of listeners. Today, Nu Groove stands as a testament to the power of artistic expression and its capacity to transcend time and trends.
