Samurai Weapons Vol 2
Mariya T - "Plastic Luv" (Swifft edit) - (6:46) 105 BPM
Yumi M - "'78" (Swifft edit) - (5:35) 122 BPM
Miho F - "Next Move" (Swifft edit) - (5:43) 124 BPM
Taboo - "Don't Need Nothin'" (Swifft edits) - (5:03) 102 BPM
B&B - "Japanese Woman" (Swifft edit) - (5:09) 106 BPM Hot
Review: Swifft Edits mission is to hack through peoples' misconceptions with the big re-edit sword of his Samurai Weapons series. It's taken a good deal of crate digging to rustle up more forgotten dance gems from the land of the rising sun, but it's happened and now we have five of them. Some veer on generic late '70s disco fodder but there are still some tight grooves to be found here including the lean, elastic licks of Miho F's "Next Move", the slow and sensual shuffle of "Don't Need Nothin'" by Taboo and the shimmering boogie of "Japanese Woman" by B&B.

Keep Feelin'
Keep Feelin' - (5:56) 118 BPM Hot
Review: If Marathon Edits' first EP for Nude_isco looked to Japan for inspiration - impressively reworking a trio of obscure Far East disco and boogie treats - then this follow-up heads to the less exotic surroundings of Sheffield for source material. "Keep Feeling" is simple but devastatingly effective, serving up a rolling, synth-laden re-dub of Human League's 1983 single "(Keep Feeling) Fascination". Seemingly utilizing elements of both Martin Rushent's "Improvisation" version and Chris Thomas' extended mix, it wisely focuses on the original's killer groove, recognizable synth line and a few choice vocal snippets. The original is a pain to mix, whereas this should slip easily into disco, boogie, electro and house sets.

Samurai Weapons Vol 1
P&C - "My Superstar" (Swifft edit) - (5:10) 120 BPM
Minachan - "Light It Up" (Swifft edit) - (6:53) 120 BPM Hot
Akko - "Doshaburi" (Swifft edit) - (3:05) 100 BPM
Tabo - "4am" (Swifft edit) - (6:55) 103 BPM
Played by: Tonbe
Review: Historically Samurais were a pretty tough bunch - really tough - so you shouldn't name your record after them unless you're pretty hard. Thankfully Swifft Edits bring the muscle here, with four nuggets, all solid enough to crack a tooth on. Seemingly all sourced in Japan, P&C's "Superstar" is lilting Euro-disco of the melancholy kind, Minachan's "Light It Up" is flute-laden Loveboat funk, whilst Akko's "Doshaburi" is all about the breaky organ-led '60s grooves and Tabo's "4am" is a vocally layered sojourn through rainy late night Tokyo backstreets.

Marathon Edits - "Who?" - (6:50) 132 BPM
Review: To help turn a Halloween house party into something like the Rocky Horror Show or Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, let Nude_isco's Night Of The Living Edits scare those trick-or-treaters away. There's jamming horror P-funk from Swifft Edits, '80s pop, rock and disco from 80s Child, a floor-filling edit of Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer", and some Afrika Bambaataa inspired electro from Funk Hunk - with plenty more shocks and horrors to devour.

(Oh Baby) Sexy Sexy - (7:18) 110 BPM
Enjoy Yourself (feat Johnny Collins) - (7:07) 110 BPM
Edit Life - (6:56) 103 BPM
Review: Rising Irish star Jay Ru recently smash it with City Vibes on Midnight Riot. Now he brings the heat once more with the brilliantly melodramatic Boney M disco rework "It's Cool", the deep house and soul vibes of "(Oh Baby) Sexy Sexy", the new-wave-funk-meet-R&B of "Enjoy Yourself" and "Edit Life" - a cheeky rejig of Prince's glorious '80s hit, Pop Life.

Minako
Town - (10:58) 118 BPM Hot
Black Moon - (6:16) 103 BPM
Town (Bottin re-edit) - (6:34) 118 BPM
Review: It's always a challenge to find more rare fodder for new edits - Nude Isco have looked to Japan for their latest inspiration. Minako is a veteran singer in Japan and here we get two of her disco-era tunes reworked in fine style. "Town", now at nearly 11 minutes long, is a glorious slow builder in the vein of Gino Soccio's Dancer. "Black Moon" is Bee Gees-esque soft focus disco froth at its finest. Also nu-disco hero Bottin pops in to deliver a more accelerated version of the title track.

Serious
Billy Griffin - "Serious" (Funk Hunk edit) - (4:33) 113 BPM
Junior - "Not Tonight" (Funk Hunk edit) - (5:13) 105 BPM
Barbara Fowler - "Come & Get My Lovin'" (Funk Hunk edit) - (4:22) 106 BPM
Cheryl Lynn - "I'm On Fire" (Funk Hunk edit) - (4:45) 104 BPM Hot
Review: Colorado-based producer Funk Hunk has already built up quite a following on SoundCloud for his "buff" re-edits of '80s boogie and disco classics. Here, he makes his commercial debut on the amusingly titled Nude_isco label with four cheeky scalpel jobs. There's a sensual feel about his loopy, immersive re-cut of Billy Griffin's '80s soul jam "Serious", while Junior's "Not Tonight" gets impressively chopped and reworked in an '80s edit style. His rework of Barbara Fowler's stone cold classic "Come & Get My Loving" expertly emphasizes the original's excellent synths and singalong chorus, before he gets all Tiger & Woods (with a touch more vocal and extra filters) on Cheryl Lynn's long-forgotten 1981 track "I'm On Fire".

Marathon Edits 001
Wade Nichols - "Like Any Gal" (Marathon edit) - (11:40) 105 BPM
The Tony Danza Experience - "I Love You Danza" (Marathon edit) - (8:02) 114 BPM
The Orange Juices - "Isle Of Music" (Marathon edit) - (10:12) 118 BPM Hot
Charles Jeremy J - "I Know Karina" (Marathon edit) - (8:29) 124 BPM
Review: What a way to start a re-edit label: Dennis Parker (aka Wade Nichols)'s disco classic, "Like An Eagle"! Taking its time to revel in its own greatness, this hazy sunkissed classic now spans over ten minutes! Elsewhere Marathon's Ben Becker also tackles sizzling '70s funk (Tony Danza Experience), The O'Jays classic "I Love Music" and Quincy Jones' immortal "Ai No Corrida". An impressive label debut.
