Review: With just two previous releases to his name, Bristolian newbie Emmet Read makes his Of Unsound Mind debut with a four-track EP that blends throbbing, synth-y, Italo-inspired disco with classic house/rave tropes. Opener 'Sweaty Betty', for instance, lifts Sabrynaah Pope's house-eulogising vocal from D-Pac's now decades-old 'Get Up (It Doesn't Matter)', while the bright n' spangly 'Hold Me' comes topped with the same Gwen Guthrie bite that powered N-Joi's 'Anthem' back in the day. Elsewhere, some pleasing Middle Eastern touches make 'Spangle' a real attention-getter, while Italo purists should head straight for 'Juno And Mars.
Review: Darlington's finest James Burton returns following up some great releases on W&O Street Tracks and FOUR THIRTYTWO with this new thriller for Of Unsound Mind. The soulful Motor City inspired vocal house anthem "Keys, Notes & Scales" has already received heavy support on BBC Radio 1 from Annie Mac and label boss Skream, who then went on to sign the track off the back of him premiering the track on Pete Tong's show back in December. Also featured is the rolling and heady DJ tool "Everybody's Talkin'" (Original Mix) and the stabby old school bounce of "No Longer" featuring some roaring diva vocals reminiscent of the legendary Ann Nesby.
