Review: Having established the On A Mission label back in 2014 to release their debut single as The Groove Brothers, old pals Jef K and Rhythm&Soul have finally got around to putting out the label's first long player. Fittingly, it comes from the duo, and features a far wider variety of musical treats than we've seen on previous releases. While largely rooted in their usual brand of dusty, chunky house, there are notable variations and diversions throughout. Check, for example, the hip-house revivalism of "De La Thang", the intricate musical flourishes and jazz-flecked grooves of "Funky Path", and the sample-heavy, interlude style opener "We're On A Mission".

Everyday - (6:42) 120 BPM Hot
Soul Food Cafe (Nail remix) - (7:56) 126 BPM
Review: Long time French house stalwart Jef K is kicking off on this project alongside fellow Parisian Rhythm&Soul, under the quintessentially house moniker The Groove Brothers. Unsurprisingly, it's a cozy, familiar kind of house they cook up, with "Soul Food Cafe" working that infamous Robbie Tronco "Walk 4 Me" sample into a smooth beat, soaring pads and neat chord stabs. "Everyday" lays on a heavier, boogie inflected bassline and some more soulful overtones, not least from the tasty vocal performance. Remixer in demand Nail is at it once again on "Soul Food Cafe", rubbing his jumpy beats and playful synth programming into the firmament of the original.

Bob's Country Bunker EP
Jef K & Rhythm&Soul - "Night Club" - (6:44) 124 BPM
Jef K & Rhythm&Soul - "Mood 4 Evenings" - (6:58) 122 BPM
Mr KS - "High Street" - (6:33) 124 BPM Hot
Kub - "The Basement" - (6:06) 123 BPM
Review: Parisian veteran Jef K has been immersed in deep, sensual house music since the 90s, and still he continues to turn out the gold. On this occasion he's drafted in regular collaborators Rhythm & Soul for two tracks that lay the funk samples down heavy and keep the grooves classy, then On A Mission offers some alternative names to get a look in. Mr Ks has a more jazzed out roll at work on "High Street", and Kub brings a notably mellow mood to "The Basement" to smoothly round off the EP.

We Hate Illinois Nazis EP
VJ - "Bang Bang" - (7:10) 123 BPM Hot
JDJR - "Madrid City Bang Baby" - (6:38) 123 BPM
JPAC - "Discoline" - (5:55) 124 BPM
JKID - "I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby" - (7:57) 121 BPM
Review: The Groove Brothers may not be fans of "Illinois Nazis" - though who is - but they're certainly enthusiastic purveyors of goodtime grooves. This EP of tracks from the family is full of bouncy, all-action dancefloor treats, from the deliciously heavy bass, throbbing beats and trippy vocal samples of opener "Bang Bang" by VJ, to the eyeliner-sporting disco-house styles of JPAC's pleasingly loopy "Discoline". The hits continue via JDJR's tech-tinged ghetto-house roller "Madrid City Bang Bang" and JKID's deliciously silly "I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby", where a familiar, clarinet-sporting disco anthem gets tooled up for contemporary dancefloors.
