Review: Ben Pest, known for his electrifying live hardware-based sets, has once again proved his mettle with his latest electro track 'Robotic Sales', released on the Brighton-based label Orson. The opening track, 'Robotic Sales' (Acid Redux), sets the tone for the EP with its perfect blend of scorching acid pads, powerful electro percussion, and roboticised vocal samples, all accompanied by 80s-style synths, making it a classic hit. The EP takes a turn with 'Wobbly Eggs', which deconstructs the typical dance track structure, presenting key melodic components during the breakdown, and then disappearing as the track returns to its main body. 'Beefcase', the most acid-heavy track on the EP, is guaranteed to make the dance floor shake, while the final track, 'Charizard Dream', is perfect for those moments of peak-time ecstasy.
Review: Following up great releases by Ben Pest, Signol and Transparent Sound, Brighton's Orson Records welcome the return of Finnish producer Tatu Mets?t?hti aka Mesak to the label for his third release titled Hardsmalta. This time he teams up with Daniel Savio for four tracks of tough yet melodic, Drexciyan sounding electro cuts. Get down to some serious computer funk on opener "Tungt Vatten", get some bass in your face from the dystopian beats of the title track and there's more sci-fi adventures which await on "Tankedimma" and "Surt Regn".
Review: Following recent releases by DeFeKT and Ben Pest, the long-running Orson label has enticed the prolific Cignol to deliver its latest EP. Lovers of deep, dreamy electro will already be familiar with this talented artist through releases on Lunar Disko, Furthur Electronix and Distant Worlds. If that style is up your street, there's plenty to love here: both the title track and "Journey to Auriga" resound to evocative synths and shimmering pads that swirl over brittle electro 808s. "Resist" sees Cignol conjure up wave upon wave of acid over a tougher rhythm, while label owner Transparent Sound's take on "Darya Message" makes for a wild 303 journey.
