Martyn - "Jah Bedouin" - (7:36) 130 BPM Hot
Atoma/Tobias - "Physik E7532" - (5:42) 125 BPM
Planetary Assault Systems - "Hama Static" - (5:16) 128 BPM
Review: If the Acht release accommodates Panorama Bar's house sensibilities, then Sieben is sure to be played out on Berghain's main floor. That said, the seventh release in Ostgut's 10-strong series starts with Martyn in reflective mood. With its loose, tribal drums, ponderous vocal and dubby chords, "Jah Bedouin" could be the Dutch producer's own version of Bandulu's distinctive techno. Tobias and Atoma soon pick up the pace though, and their "Physik E7532" fuses steely claps and clanging rhythms with grimy acid lines. Luke Slater ramps up the intensity levels further with Planetary Assault System's "Hama Static", a bleep-heavy banger that will drill its way into your cranium.

Fiedel - "Probe-806" - (6:29) 129 BPM Hot
Tobias - "Like A Drug" - (8:35) 127 BPM
Review: The eighth installment in Ostgut's ten-vinyl strong release series is sure to be a desirable item not just for fans of the Berlin label. All of the tracks on Acht take the listener down a disco-fied route. First up is Berghain resident Marcel Fengler and Efdemin as DIN; the pair's "Mono" is a crackling, pulsating groove that hints at industrial and noise influences. Fiedel's "Probe 806" goes farther in this direction with an electronic rhythm underscoring detuned rave sirens. Finally, there's Tobias' "Like A Drug". Its cut-up vocal sample and tracky backing, coupled with some buzzing acid, is tailor made for the shutter-opening ritual that is central to the Panorama Bar experience.

Raverd (dub) - (6:48) 128 BPM
Review: 15 months on from her previous Ostgut Ton appearance - the collaborative Treasure Seeking EP with pals Steffi and Dexter, Virgina Hogl returns with a brand new EP ahead of a debut LP on the Berlin stronghold. Happily she's in fine form, as the glassy-eyed, synth propelled, deep house retro-futurism of "Funkert" proves. The extended original is joined by a tasty Dub, which bobs and weaves in all the right places, while adding a little bump to the drums. As its' title suggests, "Raverd" aims for late night dancefloor domination via sustained notes, bubbly rave riffs and more confident vocalizing from Hogl. It, too, is accompanied by a vocal-less dub, on which Virginia wisely emphasizes the spine-tingling riffs and loved-up chords.

Marcel Fengler - "Fallin'" (feat Elif Bicer) - (7:01) 115 BPM
Etapp Kyle - "Nolah" - (6:19) 129 BPM Hot
Steffi - "Loweborschtel" - (5:52) 128 BPM
Review: All good things come to an end. Part ten of ten in Ostgut Ton's tenth various artists' compilation and they've recruited some of their superstar residents to give their very best. Marcel Fengler's restrained fury on "Fallin' (feat. Elif Bicer)" almost sounds like something off the soundtrack of a sci-fi film where dramatic elements face off with Bicer's angelic voice. Etapp Kyle's "Nolah" is another example of his well executed hypnotic techno with a nod to the master himself Robert Hood. Finally Steffi's "Loweborschtel" is the kind of surefire sub-aquatic electro funk and the standard in quality you'd always expect from the Dolly boss.

Ryan Elliott - "Smith Lake" - (6:04) 131 BPM
Len Faki - "Rainbow Delta" (Ambient mix) - (4:56) 115 BPM
Review: Part nine of ten in Ostgut Ton's tenth various artists compilation and they're pulling out the big guns now to celebrate proceedings with a big bang. Star resident Ben Klock has taken quite a long hiatus from production but he's still got it, as shown on the tunnelling and cyclical cut "Sirens". Fellow resident and Detroit ex-pat Ryan Elliott serves up the soulful and emotive "Smith Lake" which is brilliant and reminds us of Exos or "Dead Eye" era Baby Ford. Finally resident party animal Len Faki surprises many with the ambient mix of his undisputed anthem "Rainbow Delta" and it is absolutely sublime; you can just drift away to this one, you'll see!

Remixes
Relate (The Black Madonna remix) - (6:00) 124 BPM Hot
Come Closer (Liit remix) - (6:01) 125 BPM
Grind Show (Aardvarck remix) - (7:33) 125 BPM
Rising Overheads (Herva remix) - (4:49) 127 BPM
Review: Don't you just hate it when remix EPs come filled with dull, similar-sounding reworks? Happily, Ostgut Ton is above all of that. Their choice of producers to remix cuts from Nick Hoppner's recent album, Folk, was inspired, and the results are uniformly superb. There's a brilliantly analogue-sounding rework of "Relate" by Chicago's The Black Madonna that doffs a cap to Jeff Mills, acid house and early British rave, and a trippy, dub techno-influenced, Berghain-friendly take on "Come Closer" by Lilt. On the flip, Dutch veteran Aardvarck makes "Grind Slow" sound like a mixture of instrumental industrial pop and hypnotic techno, before Herva steals the show with a rather brilliant, ambient-meets-experimental dub revision of "Rising Overheads". The latter may not be dancefloor dynamite, but it's really rather good.

Falling For You
Falling For You - (9:17) 126 BPM
U1-U8 - (6:25) 126 BPM Hot
Ahmadiya - (6:46) 85 BPM
Review: It sounds strange to say it, but this is the happiest release that Berghain's in-house label has put out. The title track is full of mournful keys and a pulsing Chicago bass and the groove is positively jaunty. It's hard to imagine how Martyn got to this place, but equally, there is no doubt that this sweet mood suits him. "U1-U8" is more in keeping with the Dutch producer's sound, with haunting chords unfolding over furious break beats, but soon enough, he's back exploring a more contemplative sound and the loose drums and melancholic keyboard solos sound like a freeform version of Smallville/Dial's deep, reflective house.

Berghain 07 Part II
Cassegrain & Tin Man - "Oxide" - (6:05) 130 BPM
Inland - "Sca Fell" - (6:20) 127 BPM
DVS1 - "Electric" - (7:24) 130 BPM Hot
Steve Bicknell - "Odyssey #2" - (4:12) 127 BPM
Review: It seems Function is a fan of Cassegrain & Tin man material as he's just signed them up for his next release on Infrastructure New York. For this second Berghain 07 sampler, Function's appetite for boomy, acid techno is whetted by the collaboration's "Oxide". Meanwhile, former flatmate Ed Davenport, aka Inland, delivers "Sca Fell", a subaqueous workout that would get the Mike Parker seal of approval. DVS1 throws down some trademark warehouse beats with some caustic stabs to boot, while Steve Bicknell delves even deeper into the abyss than he did on the first sampler, with a track that's as menacing and frenetic as what Drexciya can be.

Review: It's always a good day for techno when new Steve 'master of the loop' Bicknell material arises, just like it's done here on the first sampler for Function's Berghain 07 mix. "Odyssey #1" is a distorted gyration through fizzy atmospheres and chocked bleeps, while Post Scriptum's rolling "Human Timescales" is a cross between the Hauntologists sound and the beats heard on Tobias' Leaning Over Backwards album, also released on Ostgut Ton. There's some transatlantic vibes on LB Dub Corp's "So Much", while the emerging Blue Hour sees his zapping drum track keep the sustain on his synth locked for the entirety of the track.

Review: Originally released on Music Man back in 2003, Fixmer's "Mekanik" has stood the test of time. If anything, it sounds more relevant now than before thanks to a renewed interest in all things wave and ebm. So what are these remixes like? Kobosil's "44 Version" is the most dance floor friendly, with a hammering industrial rhythm playing a supporting role to rave stabs. Norman Nodge's take is more understated, as insistent acid lines rise over a metallic rhythm and his Berghain colleague Marcel Dettmann's "Leitmotiv" version moves into the abstract realms, with whirring ticks and clicks supporting the original's pulses. That's not forgetting the original version, where shrieks, grunts and groans play out against one of the most powerful rhythms in techno.

Review: You have to admire Ostgut Ton's ambition. While celebrating a decade in dance music with a compilation of exclusive, previously unheard music is now standard practice amongst leading underground labels, few would have the balls to release it with such a killer tracklisting as Zehn. Across the 30 tracks (count 'em!) you get a who's who of Berghain and Panorama Bar associates delivering a quite outstanding selection of left-of-centre techno and deep European house, with Marcel Dettmann, Boris, Virginia, Steffi, DVS1, Martyn, Tobias and Ben Klock all featuring. Highlights naturally come thick and fast, from the spacey electronics, heady textures and hypnotic rhythms of Function's "DX3 Analog Bass Seq", and the rush-inducing, string-laden house warmth of Matthew Styles' remix of Dinky's "Planes", to the picturesque intelligent techno of Doms & Deykers.

Konvergent - (5:52) 133 BPM
Per - (5:36) 135 BPM
Review: It's strange to think that the title of Kobosil's latest release is a reference to his birth year, the same year that Berlin institution Hardwax first opened its doors. Despite being in his mid-20s, this protege of Berghain shows that he is very skilful at creating tough but distinctive techno. "Konvergent" is all pumping, rolling bass and doubled up claps, while "Per" sees him push in a similar direction - on this occasion however, he lets spiky percussive volleys accompany his grimy pulses. There is a men-acing, moody air throughout this record, but it never feels affected or put on, nor does Kobosil rely on cheap tricks to achieve this effect. It means that the dark ambience of "Athtar" is just as spine-chillingly evocative as the howling wind and powerful bass of techno.

Hainish Cycle - (6:37) 124 BPM
Review: Berlin's Len Faki returns to his resident label with Basement Trax Vol 2. which as the name suggests, provides banging, subterranean club tools for dusty basements and abandoned power plants alike, with some of his finest work since the tracks on his Berghain 03 mix several years ago. Who could forget The Obliteration of The Berghain and Rainbow Delta. The tracks on here are a return to form by an artist now considered one of the modern greats. The pounding kick drum workout of "B-PAX" is as well engineered as only a Berghain resident could execute. We predict the chugging epic "For Real" will be destroying dancefloors worldwide this summer. Finally the gritty, entrancing bassline faces off with mutant melody in yet another peak time journey on "Hainish Cycle".

Review: Who knew? Given his track record of making grainy, Mills-inspired techno, it's fair to say that the latest release by Berghain resident Norman Nodge ploughs an unpredictable furrow. The cold bleeps and grainy robo-rhythms of "Body 2 Body" reveal Nodge's previously undocumented interest in ebm and Belgian New Beat. The title track also maps out new possibilities for Nodge with eerie synths combined with stop-start rhyhtms, casting him as Ostgut's weirder answer to the Hacker. However, there is a link to Nodge's usual sound and the abstract minimalism of "Break Down" bears more than a passing resemblance to his last release on MDR.

She Parked Herself (original mix) - (6:04) 124 BPM
Swivel Flick - (5:50) 117 BPM
Review: Nick Hoppner is one of the key figures in the Ostgut operation, but isn't noted for putting out a lot of music. Clearly favouring quality over an excessive release schedule, the former MyMy member draws on the classic sounds of house and techno for Peck. The title track is the more current sounding, its heavy drum shuffled accompanied by weighty claps, a soft-focus filter and a lost 'aaaah' vocal sample. "She Parked Herself " is a totally different proposition; featuring the kind of emotional strings that featured on classic progressive house records by artists like Jaco and Slam, while its plunging bassline and rattling snares sound like the deep house of 90s producers like Jamie Read. "Swivel Flick" meanwhile is less derivative but also makes a play of that era's propensity for atmospheric pads and resonating bass riffs.

Review: Backwards is the album that veteran producer and former Boney M studio bod Tobias Freund has been threatening to make for many years and the work that so many of his peers aspire to but will never reach. It is clear that a huge amount of thought has gone into this album. From the static crackle of album opener "Girts" to the trippy, Eno-esque ambience of "Voices Told Me To Do That", the devil is in the detail as new ideas and nuances loom at every bar. From the insistent stabby techno of "Party Town" and "Skippy" to the glorious Drexciyan electro of "The Key", Backwards is steeped in 30 years of electronic music history but never sounds dated.

Steffi - "Sadness" (vinyl version) - (5:38) 124 BPM Hot
Hunee - "Leaf For Hand In Hand" - (6:16) 120 BPM
Review: This sampler from Prosumer's Panorama Bar mix should dispel any doubts that the Ostgut stable caters exclusively to jaw-grinding intensity. Hunee's "Leaf for Hand in Hand" sounds like a return to UK house music of the mid to late-90s with a clubbier feel punctuated by a celebratory hook. Fused with a bleeding acid line, it nonetheless serves as a reminder of what a fruitful time that scene enjoyed. "Take U" by Soundstore a is more stripped back affair, focusing mainly on a buzzing bass, edgy beats and heavy claps - although there is some concession towards musicality thanks to some eerie synths - but "Sadness" by Steffi ensures that soul remains on the Ostgut menu. Over understated drums, Steffi lays down a sun-kissed yet somnambulant melody line and the kind of breathy vocals that Tracey Thorn would kill to emulate. These tracks make for one of the most uplifting house releases of 2011 - and reinforce Ostgut's reputation as a purveyor of the best contemporary electronic music.

Things start off decidedly funky with The Mole laying down a discoid bassline and maintaining his groove longer than he might normally do. Dexter comes correct with a brooding slice of tech-house that plays off a growling bassline and quirky dabs of synth, while Matthew Styles lets dubby feedback reign supreme on the melodic part of "Liquid Sky". Jon McMillon rounds proceedings off in fine style with the subdued slow-mo of "T-Station".

6 In A Row - (6:06) 130 BPM
Mosaique - (5:39) 126 BPM
Review: There are two defining aspects to Marcel Fengler; firstly he retains a more humble profile to his more celebrated fellow Berghain residents Klock and Dettmann, and secondly original material from Fengler may be an infrequent proposition, but it's almost always worthy of your attention. This latter aspect is certainly true of the three track Frantic EP, a worthy return to Ostgut Ton, following last year's Berghain O5 mix and a clutch of notable EPs. Commencing with the title track, Fengler draws on a canny complement of insistent loops and sumptuous synth arrangements, while the rugged drum patterns make "Frantic" seem all too appropriate a title. Do check the alien techno funk of "6 In A Row", a track which masterfully swings between the thick groove and fast fingered smears of neon synths, while the glistening beauty of "Mosaique" offers some nice contrast to the previous onslaught.

Review: Marcel Dettmann returns with yet another EP full of dusty atmospherics and brooding minimalism. The dark synth line of "Range" wallows around sketchy percussion and filtered pulsations while the density of "Islo" ups the energy in a hectic mess of Dadub-esque drum patterns. Machine gun snares strafe the Berghain-y kicks of "Push" as otherworldly vocals breath pitched down variations of the track's title. "Allies" is Dettmann's take on party techno, but tailored entirely for flinty concretions and sturdy pylons - an absolute Berghain classic.

Review: Arguably the most recognisable of Panorama Bar's resident DJs, Steffi follows Cassy, Tama Sumo, Prosumer and Nick Hoppner in cooking up the fifth batch of tracks to make the Panorama Bar mix series. Exclusive material comes from Big Strick, Fred P, Dexter, Juju & Jordash and Steffi herself, while other house cuts come from former drum and bass staples Endian (Commix) and Trevino (Marcus Intalex). Other veterans to feature in the mix include DJ Skull with his original '93 pressing "Don't Stop The Beat", while Steven Tang's Obsolete Music Technology chips in with "Latency". Newer sounds come from Fear Of Flying's BLM, US-based deep house producer Chris Mitchell, DJ Fett Burger and Will Martin collaboration with John Barera; one half of Boston outfit B-Tracks.

Review: Ostgut Ton keep their fires of 2013 well stoked with a new EP from Detroit luminary Edinburgh's most illustrious techno import Rolando who first appeared on the famed German imprint and nightclub with the rare white label 12? 5 To 8 released in late 2010. The D & N's EP marks another release in what's becoming an increasingly impressive year for Ostgut Ton, with a Function LP, Panorama Bar mix from Steffi and numerous 12"s already released. Rolando brings the heat across three tracks that are primed with the sinister funk Detroit-inspired drum sequences tailored made for the residential DJ sets of Herr Dettmann and Fengler

Review: Machinedrum, Blawan, the collaborative Third Side project and new name Kobosil remix tracks from Barker & Baumecker's brilliant debut LP Transsektoral. Up first is Machinedrum, who replaces the broken beats of "No Body" with a bassy four-to-the- floor hum-drum, starry synths and a compatible resonance that successfully maintains Barker & Baumecker's previous garage vibe, and upstart Kobosil removes any melodious element from the original "Silo" and reworks the drums suitably for peak time Berghain action. Blawan's re-command of "Crows" sees ritualistic drums swagger clumsily in and out of time to orc war-horns that sound like they're rung in the midst of battle, while Third Side then turns "Schlang Bang" inside out by buckling down on a single looped-up sample. Sometimes remix additions can be a little underwhelming, this ain't one of them.

Review: Len Faki is no stranger to Ostgut Ton having mixed the label's third and possibly hardest sounding Berghain CD back in 2009. Whilst the Berlin fixture has remained resolutely busy since then, Faki has remained absent from the OSTGUT catalogue numbers. Basement Trax Vol 1 signals Faki's return to Ostgut colours in impressive and diverse fashion. Lead track "Btx1" is dominated by the heavily processed treatment of some orgasmic sounding female vocals submerged deep in the mix and smeared greedily across the channels chased by whipcracking percussion. The flipside accompaniment "Btx2" is a tougher version with the tribalistic percussion gradually consumed by the vastness of Faki's string arrangements, while the final version "Btx3" sees Faki present a swirling mass of ambient calm. How good would it be to hear this at 2pm on a Sunday in Berghain?

Review: It seems incredible to think that despite his nearly 20 years of production experience, Dave Sumner hasn't released a full Function album until 2013. Thankfully Incubation proves it's been well worth the wait with the Sandwell District member really stretching his legs out for one of those techno albums that is most definitely an album experience. This nine track set bristles with great ideas and murky atmospherics, combining dystopian sci-fi soundtrack textures with the precision techno he's become known for. There are robust dancefloor tracks - see the murky acid techno of "Against The Wall" and sweaty "Modifier" - but also moments of intense, melodic beauty, from the crystalline bliss of "Counterpoint", to the dreamy hypnotism of "Inter (album version)".

Review: Elliott may have left Detroit a number of years ago to pursue his dreams in Berlin, but the Motor City's influence still features heavily in his music. On the title track for his latest Ostgut outing, it bubbles to the surface on the brittle, metallic percussion and the malevolent bass that purrs its way through the arrangement. Of course there are other elements at play here, and the siren riff, flickering minor keys and looped vocal snippet have a decidedly European slant. Elliott's ability to weave these two seemingly disparate sounds together makes "Stepmode" so compelling. There is no such move on 'Still Steppin', but the interplay between its dubbed out drums and tropical melodies make it just as enticing.

Review: Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann returns with a second album for Ostgut in the shape of the simply titled Dettmann II. Unlike Hollywood, this musical sequel to his debut self titled LP of three years packs just as hefty a punch and arrives with Marcel at his busiest. In addition to overseeing his MDR imprint and putting out a steady stream of EPs for Ostgut Ton, he's contributed two singles to Modeselektor's 50 Weapons as well as mixing an entry into Music Man's Conducted mix series. Hot on the heels of an entry into Bleep's techno-centric Green Series, Dettmann II arrives and follows a similar formula to his LP length debut. Expect a mixture of ambient soundscapes and minimalist experimental cuts going up against more uncompromising dancefloor material, and there's a high profile cast of supporting names involved too; Emika provides vocals on "Seduction" while multi-monikered Rene Pawlowitz and Levon Vincent have assisted in the production of the tracks "Aim" and "Outback".

Review: Ostgut Ton ain't just house, techno and concrete, they're ambient, experimental, electro and musique concrete. This is the biggest compilation the label has released since they let Emika run wild in a closed Berghain and Panorama Bar to capture sounds of the humming club for 2010's Funf compilation. Barker & Baumecker and Fiedel saw releases on that compilation and now they contribute a track each to Ostgut Ton's abstract Various LP. B&B offer up some dubby frenetics in "Meiose" while Fiedel supplies some melodica and two step rhythms in "Grunewald2". Tobias' "Dark & Troubling Things" share a similar beatless murk to music from Canadian ambient artist Loscil, while Rolando's track "Neglected" is a stand out. DIN adds some minimally-charged Chicago house to the LP, while Virginia and new name Crushed Soul opt for something more electro. Dave Sumner then seals Various with a primitive "Golden Dawn" featuring Stefanie Parnow for something totally different to what Function fans are usually accustomed to.

Review: Luke Slater is best known for his searing, mind-bendingly futuristic techno as Planetary Assault Systems, but occasionally he slips into house mode as LB Dub Corp. With an excellent debut album scheduled in for release soon under this guise, this taster release reminds the listener of Slater's diverse palette. The title track is a nagging, acid-soaked jack track, while he changes tact on "Nearly Africa Dub". Sounding like a cross between Oliver Ho-style tribalism and early E-Dancer, as hypnotic chants are led by a menacing sub-bass. Slater also shows his sense of humour on "I Have A Dream". Featuring Benjamin Zephaniah delivering a tongue in cheek version of Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech, it has choice lines like "one day everyone will have to own at least one Barry Manilow record", set to a dubby techno groove.

Review: Dave Sumner's debut album as Function was one of this year's most anticipated and finest LPs. Atypically, this remix package sees the commissioned producers deliver versions that measure up to the original material. On the dance floor end, there's Rrose's punishing take on "Against The Wall", which starts with a hypnotic, linear rhythm that descends into distorted mayhem, while Recondite's version of "Incubation" marries dramatic filters and insistent bleeps to reach a climax. But when the remixers go as deep as the author, the results are truly fascinating. NSI's take on "Inter" is a sprawling, jazzed out interpretation of the original ambient track, while Vatican Shadow delivers an uncharacteristically melodic, acid-tinged version of "Psychic Warfare".

Review: Earlier this year, Nick Hoppner stepped down from his role as Ostgut Ton label manager, handing the reins to Jenus Baumecker without a hint of self importance or grand standing. The reasoning behind this decision was apparently so Hoppner could dedicate more time to creative pursuits and this has delivered some swift results in the form of Red Hook Soil, a three track EP for the label he no longer oversees. The release is Hoppner's first for Ostgut since 2011, though he's been active in the interim period gracing Kompakt Extra and Echochord with aplomb. All three tracks on the Red Hook Soil see Hoppner in a four-four mood, with the title track venturing into uplifting, and in parts, melancholic fields of production that share a similar, only more textured feel to 2010's "Brush Me Down" from the EP of the same name. The release continues with strains of Italo on the verging-on-epic "Bait & Tackle", though Hoppner does move into tougher techno territory with a dryer and regimented track in "Decal".

Review: American industrial scene stalwart Dominick Fernow makes a somewhat surprising addition to Berlin institution Berghain's mix series on its ninth instalment. Under the Vatican Shadow moniker, he has increasingly flirted with techno, performing regularly at the Berlin institution as a DJ and with his intense live show. Of the mix, Fernow - who is otherwise known for work under many other aliases such as Prurient, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement or Exploring Jezebel among others - has stated that his interest in DJing developed out of industrial music traditions such as mail art, tape trading, and sound collage. This sonic 'cut up' of electronic edits bridges the gap between several generations of electronic music subculture, taking in early UK industrial (Genesis Breyer P-Orridge), Japanese noise (Merzbow) and the very NYC underground that he came up in with contemporaries such as Virile Games and Kris Lapke (aka Alberich) also featured.

Offering a more well rounded and experimental display of Fengler's production palette than the functional techno he's issued in singles, Fokus has been a definite highlight thus far and it's interesting to see who has been chosen to rework tracks from it. Shed and Dave Clarke are naturally the headline draws here and their respective takes on "Jaz" and "Sky Pushing" are as full throttle as one would expect but it's nice to see Solar One boss Robert Witschakowski get the exposure his work as The Exaltics deserves with a killer throbbing Italo-techno rendition of "King Of Psi".

Review: The brilliant Answer Code Request follows releases for his own imprint and Marcel Dettmann's MDR label to make his Ostgut Ton debut with the Breathe EP, which delivers three cuts of his individual brand of weighty, breakbeat-inspired techno. Each of the three tracks sees him in particularly ravey form; "The 4th Verdict" combines a chugging synth line with minimal Mills-inspired percussion, while "Ghostes" offers a suitably spectral vision of club techno in its cavernous chords and heavy breakbeat rhythms. The title track however must be his most euphoric to date combining headspinning chords with taut drums - another killer from ACR.

Review: Originally released on the Berlin producer's second album, "Seduction" is less abrasive and more thoughtful than his usual fare. Over understated, tribal beats and eerie textures, Emika provides some indistinct but endearing vocals. Dettmann's own remix as Deuce is also thought-provoking rather than upfront. Over a pulsing bass and hissing percussion, he adds in screeching synth lines to add to the sense of drama. There's no danger of Dettmann or Ostgut alienating their techno audiences thanks to the remixes. Berghain resident Ryan Elliott turns "Seduction" into a rolling, driving groove, featuring a droning underbelly, insistent claps and the vocals buried deep in the arrangement. Anthony Parasole's version is impressive too, its jagged rhythms fused with what are in his hands screeching, deranged vocals.

Martellato (club version) - (6:56) 129 BPM
Review: Let's not lie, how often do you see, or need, the words 'club version' alongside a Marcel Dettmann production? In this case, for the tracks "Spiritoso" and "Martellato" it makes sense considering the original two were disjointed, industrial-tinged scores for a conceptual performance which took place in Berghain. The first club version strips away the Panthu du Prince-style chimes and chirping bird effects and boils the piece down to a dusty beat with a resonating ambience, sinewave sweeps and the odd piano crash. "Martellato" in its original form is a haunting Phantom Of The Opera type production with this club version somehow transforming it into a watery and dubbed-out piece of tense, minimal techno.

Review: Throughout the MASSE soundtrack Phillip Sollmann & Marcel Fengler's DIN alias provided the Berghain ballet with the production's most challenging sequences. Those who enjoyed the track "RazKaz" from Fengler's Enigma EP from 2010 will warm to the subtle classical strings of "Euphorium", while bells similar to those heard on M.Bison's stage on Street Fighter II ring melodiously in an arpeggio that flickers like sunlight bouncing off the sea. "Aetas" is a production which fits in with the sketchy sounds of Tobias, and a poetic, spoken word vocal adds an extra touch of depth for a sublime cut of stony, deep, deep, house music.

Review: Henrik Schwarz is one of electronic music's most revered artists for his ability to combine jazz, flamenco and classical music with house and techno. For this third MASSE package he provides one bespoke techno track, and a second floral arrangement of the aforementioned styles. The first, "Lockstep", provides a dubby beat while a dusty snare progression snaps away like Ectomorph on overdrive, highlighting how versatile Schwarz can be with the use of only a few elements - check out Sven Weisemann's "Trackz" for another great example of this. Schwarz's "Unknown Touch Two" sees the German back in familiar territory by providing a hot-blooded, Latin-laced and string plucking piece of cinematic music with a deft touch of house.
