Review: New Clouds material from Calum Macleod and Liam Robertson can mean only one thing: these things will go quick, and as you can imagine, you'll want to get them in your DJ sets just in time for the NYE debauchery. The duo land on British techno imprint Overlee Assembly, kicking the carnage off with a Perc remix of "Tuned To A Dead Channel", something of a toxic headbanger with a gnarly bass at its core. This is followed by a much sleeker, more restrained Tuned version of "Chained To A Dead Channel", and then by a jungle/breakcore driven version from Headcore Wreckage, and an acid-laden, drum-nutty hardcore Tuned Again version. Murder.

Review: Al Matthews continues with his explorations into harsh, abrasive and retro influenced techno with this new release on Overlee Assembly, channeling the old school vibes of R&S and Djax Up Beats. There's the original of "Static Renegade" with its mental melody and 909 drums thumping and hissing all over the place like an old Jeff Mills cut, but its Perc's remix with its relentless overdriven kick and distorted snares that really hammers the message home. "Indra" is a nice slow burner with a brooding hoover bass, as is "Quango (The Cobble) with its equally wacky bassline and reductionist aesthetic perfect for opening sets.

Review: Pennyroyal and Power Vacuum have already put out J. Tijn's tortured techno, and now it's the turn of Overlee Assembly. For all those producers making laddish industrial techno, ILGD should act as a wake-up call. The title track re-defines the word 'visceral'; screeching riffs, like a thousand cats being electrocuted simultaneously, shoots through the murky rhythm, crashing drums and acrid acid. "Henry" is just as deranged. With its insane Hoover-led noise and frenetic, high-tempo rhythm, it mixes squat party techno abandon - is the title a cheeky reference to Dave The Drummer? - with hard-core rave excess. Gothic gloom merchants, listen and learn!
