Review: JXTPS kick starts his debut on Eric Cloutier's label with "Quetzal". Built on a pulsating, acid-soaked bass, deft filters and ticking percussion augment its dance floor impact. "Interzone" also features frazzled tones and enveloping textures, but this time the backdrop is different, with JXTPS dropping dubbed out drums. "Perimeter" marks another shift in style; more linear in approach, it resounds to a humming bass and ticking percussion. Then there's "Scorpion"; while the tracks on Hypogean favoured dense, layered arrangements, in contrast, the closer is pared back. Powered by rickety drums and subtle bass tones, it makes for an understated end to one of Palinoia's most impressive releases.
Review: Some nine years after the release of his sole single to date - a two-track, digital-only affair - Andre Tighe is back with an expansive, polished and quietly confident EP on Eric Cloutier's Palinoia imprint. Tighe impresses from the off with opener 'Spirits' offering a near perfect blend of drifting, super-deep chords, crunchy machine drums, quietly weighty bass and yearning electronic melodies that seemingly float across the sound space. It's deep, dubby and hypnotic - a proper heads-down, late-night number for those who adore the DJ Sprinkles style of ultra-deep house. 'Beyond' is slightly bolder and more intergalactic in tone, with chiming melodies and spacey electronic motifs riding a more jacking drumbeat, while 'Cognition' is deep, drifting, warming and pleasingly sunrise ready. Deliciously drowsy deep house bliss.
