Esperance - (6:10) 120 BPM
Review: Following a quartet of edit-focused releases, Bali-based Pantai People has decided to offer up an EP of original productions from Adrien Calvet and Coupe Melba. Up first is title track 'Le Doigt De Toto', a subtly dub-flecked slab of funk-fuelled deep house goodness rich in meandering electric piano solos, fast-fingered bass guitar, immersive chords and skippy, loose-limbed beats. Cinthie remixes, giving the track a bolder, weightier bassline, more surging rhythm track and star-lit synth stabs, before Calvet and Coupe Melba serve up the piano-heavy nu-disco/deep house fusion of 'Riesling' and the slap-bass-propelled peak-time dub disco heaviness of 'Esperance'.

Terra Amor - (4:57) 120 BPM
Review: Disco's man-of-the-moment J Kriv takes time out from serving up killer original productions and remixes to showcase his re-edit skills. As you'd expect, they're top-notch, making his edition of the ongoing Echo Beach Edits series a must-have. The Brooklyn-based producer begins by delivering a bouncy, piano-rich, house-style take on a soaring disco gem ('Mountain'), before successfully cutting up and rearranging a woodblock-powered disco-funk instrumental ('The House'). Elsewhere, 'Down Slow' is an excitable, synth-sporting revision of a soulful disco-funk workout, while standout 'Tera Amor' sees him sprint his way through a carnival-ready samba/MPB sing-along.

Echo Beach Edits Vol 3
Whisky Dangers - (8:22) 124 BPM
Dragons Breath - (8:12) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Hailing originally from Sunderland in the UK but now based in Bali, Marc Roberts has a 20-plus-year DJ career behind him, playing at the likes of Watergate, fabric, The End and Creamfields, but has only more recently made the move into production. Here, he dons his re-editor hat for a two-track excursion on Pantai People, who are also based in Indonesia. 'Whisky Dangers' is a reworking of Bionic Boogie's funk/disco classic 'Risky Changes' from 1977, and the clear standout for this reviewer, while the accompanying 'Dragon's Breath' (source unknown) is a more synth-heavy and 80s-sounding instrumental.

Echo Beach Edits Vol 2
Jogging Back 2 U - (7:40) 122 BPM
Foolio Paradiso - (9:01) 122 BPM
A Dust From Outta Space - (8:45) 122 BPM
1&0 - (7:57) 120 BPM Hot
Review: A four-track re-edit collection here. The sources for two of 'em remain a mystery, but 'Jogging Back 2 U' revisits 'Running Back To You', a 1981 soul/boogie jam from Kleer (AKA The Universal Robot Band), while The Ritchie Family's contemporaneous 'One And Only' (1982) forms the basis for '1&0'. Elsewhere, the R&B-vocalled 'Foolio's Paradise' quite clearly draws on some obscure 80s boogie cut rather than the Coolio classic you'd expect, while 'A Dust From Outer Space' has nothing to do with the late Mr Weatherall either, being instead a sumptuous slice of lounge-y, flute-sprinkled disco that's actually the standout track on the EP.

Echo Beach Edits Vol 1
Sylvia - (6:37) 122 BPM
Susana - (6:12) 124 BPM
Tony - (4:48) 124 BPM Hot
Bobby - (6:14) 125 BPM
Review: For the label's debut release, Pantai People have left us in the safe hands of Austin Ato, a producer best known for his outings on Percolate, Futureboogie, Me Me Me and Delusions of Grandeur. As the title suggests, Echo Beach Edits Volume 1 sees Ato sharpen his scalpel and deliver a quartet of suitably sunny, summery reworks with a bouncy, house style twist. He employs spacey effects aplenty on cheery and rushing opener 'Sylvia', before applying his Midas touch - chunky new beats and acid style bass - to a horn-heavy slab of Spanish language disco-boogie gold ('Susanna'). 'Tony' is a breathlessly brilliant, tooled-up rearrangement of a jazzy number rich in energetic piano solos and loopy grooves, while 'Bobby' sees Ato add lashings of rubbery, bottom-end bounce to a soaring disco number.
