Review: Has Passport To Paradise become THE disco-not-disco label of the year? Of the last three years? Of the next decade? While we don't like to jump the gun, they certainly have all the ingredients of fulfilling such a role. After all, they've put out the legendary Beppe Loda, and that's enough to not warrant any further comments. However, they've been busy picking up other sublime talents, such as the enigmatic Kompleks, who comes through with a stunning, three-pronged blast of ethereal dance vibes. "Since 1871" is a serious churner, carrying its weighty groove with thick beats and a subtle balearic touch, while "Rhythm Of Love" leverages a lovely italo disco feel that always gets us in the mood for a shake. "You And Me" is more cold-wave that disco-ball, but we absolutely adore its driving bass tones, whereas "Payday" launches a funky little edit of Italy's own Adriano Celentano's wonderful 70s romanticism. TIP!

Kool DJ Dust - "Return Of Koolius" - (5:56) 121 BPM
Rasta Nils - "Babla Rappinghood" - (6:30) 125 BPM Hot

Review: Since launching in 2015, Leeds-based Passport to Paradise has fast become one of the most interesting re-edit labels around, primarily be presenting superb rearrangements of thoroughly obscure and little-known cuts. Nemas Problemas Volume 2 continues this trend, serving up superb scalpel works from a quartet of rising talents. The Keeper kicks things off via the sprightly warmth and synth-heavy swing of quirky Italo-disco throb-job "Bear Claw", before Kool DJ Dust sprints off into over-the-top disco pastures on the swirling "Return of Koolius". Flip to the virtual flipside for the Clav-happy eccentricity of the impossible-to-describe madness of Rasta Nils' "Babla Rappinghood" and "Body Down" by Rizzolo DJ, a delay-laden slo-mo shuffle through Balearic electro pastures that could well be the EP's standout moment.

African Sheikh EP
African Sheikh - (5:46) 115 BPM Hot
Impossible - (6:17) 109 BPM
Confusion - (5:56) 111 BPM
Dazzled - (4:48) 89 BPM

Review: Passport To Paradise has pulled off something of a coup here, snagging a rare re-edit EP from Redlight Records' digger Abel Nagengast. Predictably, it's rather good, and full to bursting with sneaky reworks of obscure gems. Title track "African Sheikh" - a kind of wonky Italo-disco/proto Afro-house hybrid - is particularly potent, though the quirky electrofunk/synth-pop shuffle of "Impossible" is almost as good. Then you'll find the dreamy, Balearic disco slinkiness of "Confusion", and the even more horizontal vibes of "Dazzled", where glistening guitars and hazy vocals intertwine with delay-laden beats and sustained synthesizer notes. As re-edit EPs go, it's one of the more special ones.

Mori Ra Edits
Mori Ra/ASN - "California Real" - (5:44) 111 BPM
Mori Ra/ASN - "Actual Flash" - (5:09) 120 BPM
Mori Ra - "Mermaid" - (8:20) 112 BPM
Mori Ra - "Synchroid" - (4:56) 90 BPM Hot
Played by: ROTCIV
Review: Osaka's champion selector and groove doyen Mori Ra makes his PTP debut with four lavish helpings of synth-splashed disco. We first see him teaming up with fellow Macadam Mambo mate ASN with two almost Norwegian-sounding lessons in cosmic synth funk as "California Real" is straight up boogie and "Actual Flash" fuses far-away strings and close-up synth squiggles. Then Mori go solo with two more slightly esoteric cuts: "Mermaid" is duffle-coated drama where the operatics and soothing harmonies are under the pressure of sub aquatic textures and "Synchroid Eye" takes us right down into dreamland with its swooning strings and faraway vocal cries. Bliss.

Macadam Mambo EP
Magic Disco - (4:46) 133 BPM
Boys & Boys - (6:22) 107 BPM
Lady Samba - (4:28) 111 BPM Hot
Darling You're Erotic - (5:29) 100 BPM
Review: Macadam Mambo musclemen Sacha Mambo and Guillaume Des Bois take the reins for this one: covering the whole groove gamut we ignite with a straight-up European disco stomper ("Magic Disco") and climax with a dense, trippy, psychedelic funk piece textures with great groans and dizzying instrumentation ("Darling You're Erotic") In between we hit leftfield Spanish boogie on "Boys & Boys" and deliciously swooning slice of harmonic disco pop "Lady Samba". Each track more obscure than the last, this sums up why Macadam Mambo have developed their current spotless reputation.

Albion EP
Kompression - (6:16) 122 BPM
No Es Computable (feat Ric Piccolo) - (5:27) 125 BPM
Super Magic Woman - (4:28) 121 BPM Hot
Anima - (4:44) 119 BPM
Review:  Passport To Paradise has been befitting of the label's name on vinyl since 2015 with releases featuring the scalpel work of Italy's Beppe Loda and Nemas Problemas from Malmo crate diggers Wildlife Records or Macadam Mambo musclemen Sacha Mambo and Guillaume Des Bois. This third EP available on digital sees the focus remain on Sweden and invites Frisbee Records boss Albion to sift through his archive of secret weapons. Lead cut "Kompression" sets the tone, a twinkling electro disco excursion with kosmische overtones that is positively spine tingling. Ric Piccolo and Albion team up for "No Es Computable," a deliciously wonky European number that features strange vocodered vocals and even stranger synth work. "Super Magic Woman" offers some straight up vocal disco grooving, whilst "Anima" heads off into Pat Cowley does proto-house territory.

Volume One
Rizzolo DJ - "Ride To Paradise" - (6:22) 115 BPM
Kool DJ Dust - "A Brew With My Crew" - (5:48) 109 BPM Hot
Rastanils - "Darling" - (5:28) 122 BPM
The Keeper - "Quivering Crevice" - (5:18) 100 BPM
Review:  For the uninitiated, Nemas Problemas are a crate-digging crew linked to Malmo's Wildlife Records. Here, they make their first appearance on Passport To Paradise, editing up a quartet of suitably obscure tracks found on various dusty-fingered record hunting trips. Rizzolo DJ kicks things off with "Ride To Paradise", a suitably rolling, dancefloor-friendly version of a stoner rock/cosmic disco gem, before Kool DJ Dust raises the pressure further with the vocoder-laden electrofunk jam "A Brew With My Crew". Then Rastanils lo-fi, synth-laden disco delight "Darling", and arguably the highlight of the entire EP, The Keeper's deliciously Balearic, melody-rich jazz-funk chugger "Quivering Crevice".
