Review: Phara aka Robin De Wolf is one of the resident DJs at Fuse in Brussels. It should come as no surprise then that the techno heritage of that seminal club is audible throughout his latest EP. "Flux" is a high-octane percussive workout with a melodic undercurrent - think vintage 100% Pure with a tight, contemporary production aesthetic. In contrast, "Fleshy Part of the Thigh" is a lush deep techno track, with woozy synths looped to a skeletal rhythm. "In Dubio" sees De Wolf fuse tough kicks and snappy percussion with his penchant for melodies. He goes deep again on "Float", which sounds like a mellow take on Rotation-era Vince Watson.

Cerulean Blue - (6:25) 137 BPM
Review: Phara aka Robin De Wolf has released a succession of killer techno Eps on his Phaaar label - and Falling Forward is the latest impressive addition to the catalogue. The title track is a heads-down workout. Led by steely drums and a driving rhythm, these elements provide the backdrop for swirling, ghostly synths. "Order Disorder" is harsher. Here, De Wolf is inspired by the tougher end of Millsian techno, with water drop bleeps cascading over an iron-clad rhythm and wave upon wave of building synths. "Gate 1" sees another shift in style, as pounding tribal drums underpin scattergun percussion and a repetitive, warbling riff. Rounding off this fine, purist release is "Cerulean Blue", a more cerebral affair, where De Wolf lays down eerie synths and a pulsating bass.

The Final Pattern - (6:17) 140 BPM
Verbs & Snares - (5:45) 140 BPM Hot
Review: In a short space of time, Fuse resident Robin De Wolf aka Phara has made a name with his hard-hitting techno. This latest release is no exception. "The Final Pattern" is at the atmospheric end of Phara's sonic spectrum. Powered by an ominous bass and featuring ticking percussion, these elements combine to create a moody but impactful dance floor track. "Verbs & Snares" is a more frenetic affair. Based on lead weight kicks and powered by a pumping rhythm, it features wave upon wave of percussion and a pulsating, throbbing bass. These elements all combine to make for highly impactful modern club techno.
