Review: Batten down the hatches! After sledging us with cuts on Kevlar and Ten Tons Deeper, Lustral jumps aboard the good gully ship Phantom Dub with two raw classically trained jump up shredders. "Animated" lives up to its title with a Rhubarb & Custard style twang (ask your dad) and fun sense of mischief to the hook while "Railgun God" just goes straight for the jugular with its near four-to-the-floor style slam and gritty distortion on the bass roars. A proper 3am slapping session, handle this one with caution.

Review: Maozon's When You Are Away on Phantom Dub Digital isn't one of those releases for people who like to sit back, sip on a mug of matured whisky and debate the stylistic evolution of music. It's not about pretention, it's about having a good time and for that purpose it's ideally suited. Four tracks full of dancefloor vigour, Maozon has achieved his presumed goal of making music that'll get people moving. 'Bane' has that Viper-esque forcefulness to its synth lines; 'Forbidden Domain' hits that suspense in the build perfectly; 'Skylarking' has a naughty bassline; and the title track nails the vocal leads. Nice stuff.

Review: This album's artwork features a burning first punching a bear in the face. Yeah, a burning fist punching a bear in the face. Honestly, we can't think of a better metaphor for what is a fiery, forceful jump-up release from a man who has just been PUMPING out the tunes this year. The title track is rough and ready, picture an Upgrade tune that's just been on a heavy night out, has lost its wallet and doesn't know how to get home - it's moody, basically. 'XTC Pacman' is more of an old-school Sub Zero stomper, glitched out metallic synths knocking about in a furious mash of force and style. The heaviest might be 'All Drink On Me' though, it's distorted melodies inching out over a fluctuation of various back end wobbles and futuristic mid-range tumbles. Sick ep.

Review: Shrust isn't yet a household name amongst the jump-up community, but based off the fiery nature of this EP it won't be too long. Lustral features on the first, a gargling mess of blustery basses hits you and trust me, you'll know you've hit play. 'Hustle Drop' drags out the build for maximum impact, pulling your ears apart in suspense before a wild array of interlocked basses rumble and jostle around in a run of energy. The sample game is strong in 'Make Some Noise', the power is truly there in 'Power' featuring Blackmask and 'Misbehaviors' will surely be responsible for some genuine bad behaviour in the rave. Big EP.

Review: The hardcore flavours are plentiful here as we see the super energetic production stylings of Veak as he touches down on Phantom Dub Digital for a seriously potent two track EP. We begin with the monstrous reesey leads and overpowering drum breaks of the title track 'Annihilation', which is sure to turn any dance to a zoo! On the flip side, the weighty ideals continue in style as the well crafted sub and bass designs of 'Let Me Talk Now' hit the deck with some strong drum breaks and sharpened vocal slicings.

Review: Harder, heavier and more unforgiving than a no deal Brexit, Modified Motion & Faction continue their unique assault on the dance with two gut-punchingly savage riff busters. "It Fades" barks with mid 2000s Playaz style ruffage but bites with a Sub Focus-esque dancefloor drive in the drums and synth elements. "Tech Mech" continues the heavyweight dancefloor hybrid but with added uplifting twists in the melodic tale. No one's fusing the styles like these guys right now. Deal or no deal?

Review: Batten down the hatches! New name to the game Vital Forms hits hard with this absolute stinker of a debut EP. With a production weight that sounds almost too good to be a newcomer, each cut goes straight for the jugular in the spirit of Original Sin or Taxman 10 years ago. "Strange Beauty" is all about the necksnap riff, "Four Play" is a true therapy in a bassline while "Cold Thing" will turn you to stone if you look it straight in its evil beady eyes, "Oblivion" will tax your every belonging with in the first two bars while "Mankind" is a pack of wild dogs barking and running right for your face. Finally we have "Quagmire", a stampede cut that's laced with such high frequencies you'll be screaming giggedy until next Tuesday. Strangely beautiful.

Review: VIP alert! Heist's forever-awesome "Termination" from last year gets a VIP-up from the big man himself. Still flexing that powerful early 2000s Clipz/Twisted/G Dub style sense of fun, the VIP hits with a little more bassline toxicity and heaviness. Jaydan joins the party with a similarly foul remix where the focus is shifted onto the rolling pneumatic drums and gritty laser stabs. Absolute stinkers.

Review: This EP is fire emoji times 3! Mixing the best elements from rolling tech and the dirtiest of jump up with tiny nods to liquid, if you like it 360 you've got to give this a go. As the starting track of the EP 'Livewire' lures you in with a false sense of security, gently pulling us in with soft pads and cute synths, but the drop reveals something to make your face screw up. 'Monster' has more of a classic dancefloor vibe, the descending sub is bound to make you drop low and the swaths of grinding metal and lasers will have your hands all over the place. 'Bomb' is very much in the realm of modern day jump up, but theres an occasional glitchiness and nod to 16bit games that keep it sounding different. 'Warning Sign' is, for want of a better word, an absolute banger, reggae vocals, dub sirens and horns which descend into fast, loud and utterly metal jump up madness.

Review: Having collided before on Heist's own Calypso Muzak with "Kuma Bear", Heist and Spaow lock horns once again, this time on Phantom Dub Digital. Taking a side each, both artists go all-in with two balls-out party damagers. Heist's "Detected" is straight out of the mid 2000s when he really made his mark on the game with a bass sound so twisted not even Clipz could touch him. Spaow's "Want To Know" acts all mean and gruff with myriad bass textures but suddenly shows a much more sensitive, soulful side with the swooning keys on the mid-section. Two premium slabs of bassweight right here if you can handle them?

Review: Bull-charging into the ring with all the energy of a piston-powered house crusher, Steampunk returns to game with his biggest release to date. "Faster Faster" says it all with its Shot Down On Safari-era hookiness. The whole EP hits the senses with a sound that should resonate well with fans of Original Sin, Supreme Being and Taxman style grit; from the Clipzish Q&A on "Show Me What U Got" to the demonic battle jam "Apocalypse" via the absolute insanity bash "Clipped", this is an all-out wall-of-sound damage-fest. Tops off.

Review: Germany representing! Jump-up representing! Shrust's PDD gathers friends old and new for a riotous kick-start to 2017. It's fire from the off as OG Bassface Sascha lets rip with "Superhuman" which tips a nod to the Supreme Being/Taxman style of late 2000s jumpery before Lustral lays down his nastiest tones on the insanely uncompromising "Z2A". Elsewhere Koznik & Khavy adds a little amen twist on "Killer", Manga scratches our hinds raw as he riddles us with glitches on "Dragon's Claw" and Machines threw a little 90s west coast hip-hop feels before ripping our faces off on "Ears Still Blastin" With more caustic bumpers from Mech, Substainless, Connecta and Cue, this is one seriously explosive package.
