Review: Affekt Unit, a new collaboration between Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, has released a three-track EP titled "Discorgy." The EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house, and trance - and features an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. The first track, "Oct-Opus," boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave, and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track, "Discorgy," draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of "stadium house" that The KLF were always aiming for. The closing track, "Dreams Of Wrestlers," is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills, and some lovely subtle filtering. The EP is a must-have for fans of electronic music, as it showcases the wide range of musical influences of Affekt Unit.

Review: Philoxenia welcomes a new producer, Phase O'Matic, to its fold. Embracing the old school-influenced spirit that has defined the label's output to date, Futuro Primitivo is an enthralling trip through multi-dimensional techno. Powered by a combination of break beats, dramatic stabs, eerie vocal samples and tripped out acid, "Atomica" and "Euro Shock" are refreshingly colourful and unpredictable. "Pleasure Dome" is influenced by ebm, which is audible in its grinding rhythms, while "Upon Your Soul" sees Phase O'Matic take on electro influences, integrating rolling 808s with hardcore stabs and grimy electronic riffs. "Minefields" sees an increase in the tempo again, as 303s are fused with ghostly wails.

Review: In a bid to make the first release on their freshly minted Philoxenia label stand out, Neu Verboten and Luigi Di Venere have turned to the invaluable experience of Steve Marie, a Paris-based Corsican producer known for his heady blends of techno, EBM and trance. It's a smart move, because Ho! hits home hard from the word go. Marie first offers some retro-futurist flavour in the shape of the bass-heavy, 1990 bleep and breaks style weight of the acid-flecked title track, before combining his EBM and neo-trance fascinations on the chiming and creepy 'Devil Inside'. He retains the deep bass and razor-sharp TB-303 motifs on laidback and angular electro number 'Romanee Conti', before puffing his chest out on trance-inducing, faintly foreboding late-night throb-job 'Trancia'.
