Call The Shots EP
Played by: AGENT K
Review: Back on Pick The lock for the first time in a long time, Kormz brings the storms with this almighty six-pack track attack. Taking off where he last left us with last year's 'Collusion' EP on Nemesis, it's an intense trip into the fieriest corners of his DAW and a place where some really grotty sound designs ooze out of the speakers. Vibes range from the bone-shakingly tearing and gnarly ('Stick') to greasy, deep and offkey ('Desolate') via strange other-worldly trippy funk ('Sh*t Connection') And that's only half of it. Shots fired!

Hang Fire EP
Review: Following releases on the likes of Bruised and PullUp, Teezy joins the dodgy murk monsters at Pick The Lock for his biggest release so far - Hang Fire. Comprising six sessions of savage bassline grot, each of these cuts reinforces Teezy on the map as an artist to keep strict tabs on. Highly adept at dancefloor meltery, highlights include the ominous grumbles and floor-shaking weight of 'Want', the string-heightened drama of 'Venom' and the eerie liminal glow of the finale 'Refrain'. Fire in the hole!

Apocalypse EP
Review: Razz up your rows. Crush them columns. Start adding things up. What have you got? You've got man like Excel absolutely battering you silly with this humungous EP on the ever-awesome Pick The Lock imprint. Featuring a whole array of collabos - Pengo, Magenta, RIPTIDE and Entei - this is Excel as you've never seen him before. Highlights include the super twisted angular freakery of the Belgian-styled slapper 'Believe', the rifle fire of lasers and weird textures on 'Isolate' (with Pengo), the woozy weirdness and sudden switches of 'Wreck'. Batten down the hatches.

Hide N Seek EP
Review: Pick The Lock have picked up a real weapon with this new Error drop, unleashing six serious sizzlers for ravers nationwide. Opening up with the quirky synth cricks of the title track 'Hide N Seek', the project's mood is set very quickly, with 'Bounce' then providing a slippery squelch through varying styles of drum rhythm and 'MWARE' seeing Fenix join the party for some abstract production additions. From here, 'Vibe' amps up the pressure with a serious gnarly chopper, followed by 'Night', which sees Foe get involved for another unpredictable showcasing of unique bass design. Finally, a more traditional raver's roller as 'Together' fuses icey synth leads with a catchy vocal sample for a vibrant finale indeed.

Intoxicated Dreams EP
Review: With longer-play projects becoming more and more welcome again within the D&B space, this latest epic from the Pick The Lock crew sees Clarkey deliver six fiery spice boxes. Opening up with the awesome title track 'Intoxicated Dream', we are greeted by a fusion of clicky synth crunches and acidic drips, followed by the neurotic-influxes and percussive mastery of 'Step Up. Next, collaboration time as Warhead arrives for some additional magic on the synth-driven 'Cry For Help', followed by 'The Exorcist' with its gnarly bass crunches and 'Voicemail', a sweeping epic, featuring additional collaborative efforts from Noxxic. Finally, 'Cacaphony' sends the entire EP into a different dimension with a brain-crunching combination of sliding bass synths and gnarly subs, rounding off this EP in serious style.

All Sorts EP
Review: Good grief, good golly, good heavens... Nick The Lot and his Pick The Lot gang are back with more slick tricks than a 60s Cockney thug and the only criminal act would be to not pay attention. First 'Goodie Goodie VIP' gets real with bulging basses and a dark sense of funk while Stillz, Pengo and Spooka all get involved on the super-springy 'Battlefield'. Elsewhere Amplify and Master Error get busy on the warping, weirdo, super-squelch bubbler 'Crystal' before Nick shuts down the operation with the deeper, heads-down grizzler 'Anything You Say'. Goodbye.

Swag EP
Review: Some people like to run. Some people like to walk. Others like to skip their way through life with unapologetic energy. Take Yung SKPY here, he's leaping around the gaff flinging out vibes so strong you'll be questioning your glasses prescription and pant size within minutes. Need a little taster? Look no further as he hurls six skippy sessions upside our features. Each cut tickles many a sweet spot but we're especially into the neck snap spring and slap of 'A-List', the wild drum flurries and head-turning vocal samples of 'Think So' and the pure brute force and dark funk of the title track 'Swag'. Heavy!

Roll Through EP
Review: Everyone's favourite petty pilferer Nick The Lot returns with four more brazen, unapologetic bangers. Each one as scatty as the next, it's Nick in fiery and ferocious form as he tears us limb from limb with his sandpaper funk basslines. 'Roll Through' is all about his oddball funk, 'Gravitational Pull' is a straight up face-melter with its harrowed revving sounds and 'Above A Storm' is a trippy bouncy jam that kicks with a lot of breezy spring. Last but not least we have 'Take Our Time' which could be Nick's most far-out joint so far. Sensual but in all the strangest ways, it could be one of Nick's most definitive tunes so far.

Leap Of Faith EP
Review: Raptor touches down on the excitable sounds of Pick The Lock here for an emotive dive in stunning electronic themes and uniquely designed percussive overhauls, giving us four stunning originals. The title track 'Leap Of Faith' fuses colourful chord progressions with a face melting neurotic breakdown, showing us both sides of Raptors character. Next, 'Pressure' ups the raucousness with a grizzly combination of synthetic crunches and face-slapping drums, with the metallic tints of 'Action' and face shattering sound design of 'Dystopia' then rounding the project off with a serious bang.

Rasta Lion EP
Review: Flex those Ds to get your Ps: Nicholas 'The' Lock fires up his Pick The Lock label once again, this time inviting D Flex round for some mischief. First up in this festival of grotty basslines and murky merrymaking comes 'Rasta Lion' with Magenta. Full strength and both smellier and hookier than a fisherman's pocket, it sets the tone and energy for the whole EP. Elsewhere things get steamy on 'Turn Me On', things get so heavy, gritty and grotty on '911' we have to call the emergency services while 'Pull It' slaps us silly with a wide range of croaky flavours with absolutely no apology. Just the way we like it!

Back Of A Lorry Vol 3
Various
Review: Lock down your aerials (literally, he'll half inch them otherwise), Nick The Lot is back with his cronies, the conquistadors of contraband, dishing out some serious naughties like 'Crystal', a sci-fi take on jump-up that's artfully restrained, or 'Bubbling'. A rattlesnake banger from NTL himself - it's a springy sledgehammer of energy. There's some proper backdoor action going down elsewhere, too... Metal Work's on some next level space invader riffage, Pengo & Shifu get groovy with a nicely funky/ euphoric build-up, StillZ brings some super chubby 4x4 pumpage (and a really cool switch) and Jenks and SKPY bring some 23rd century sleaze into the mix. Next level business, the real crime here would be to sleep on these.

Modulate EP
Review: Don't waste time hate, it's time 'Modulate'... And Pengo is the man to modulate with. Last spotted on Pick The Lock last summer with his killer 'Evacuate' EP, he returns with something even bigger. Featuring link-ups with the likes of Begone, Inflate, Nexus and the bossman Nick The Lot himself, each cut slaps with grotty grooves and sizzling sickness. Highlights include the hype-fuelled builds and angular stabs of 'Tear The Place Up', the trippy sci-fi energy of 'Not Playing' (with Inflate) and the laser blazing finale fire 'Flex' (with Nexus) Meaty!

Review: Hold tight the two shoes crew, Nick The Lot and Amplify have something very special for you... 'Goodie Goodie' bigs up the gyal dem over one of the grottiest basslines you'll hear this side of your local Happy Shopper. Elsewhere we're treated to twisted funk on 'Closed Eyes', we're throttled by bass textures and unrelenting kicks on 'Nothing Like It' before 'Get High' sends us packing on beautiful cloud of smoke. Make You Mine EP
Review: Previously spotted on Pick The Lock back in 2021 collaborating with Amplify, Clarkey follows up recent releases on Next:Gen and Eternal with this humungous set of solo tracks and collaborations. Naturally vibes are high and the mood is uncompromising as cuts like 'Death Wish' come barking out of the gates like a pack of rabid wolves. Elsewhere we have a whole gamut of collabs including an intense slap-about with Magenta ('Back On The Streets') and a rave-heavy laser-blazing tear-up with BlckHry ('To The Beat'). Naughty.

Battlefield EP
Review: Forever sparkling with raw bass energy, StillZ joins Nick The Lot's merry band of misfits and murkers on Pick The Lock with this powerful collection of jump-up steppers and slammers. The opening track 'Battlefield' sets the benchmark as Pengo and Spooka both get elbow deep into the energy. Elsewhere we have highlights like the groaning, twisted spirit of 'Done It Again', the hyper-grotty buzzes and gnarls of 'Transmit' and the skin-scorching dynamics and energy of 'Dub Siren'. Pure war music. Now let us see your battlefield face!!

Consciousness EP
Review: Whether you need some custom steel stairs made for your new home or workplace, or your horse needs shoeing or you require some truly face-melting slappers for your drum & bass sets, Metal Work is what you need. One of the busiest and prolific gents in action right now, here he bows out of 2022 with this powerful collection on Pick The Lock. Loaded with dangerous levels of bass weight and intriguing fusions, highlights include those shoe-gazing guitars and atonal bass scrapes on the title track, the oddball funk and twisted dynamics of both 'Raw Flava' and 'I Need You' and the humorously-titled / craftily-delivered 4x4 finale 'Tech No Sh!t'. Putting in the work in, each and every, huge shouts to Tom Metal Work on this one!

Magical Kingdom EP
Review: Nick The Lot takes us all to his own version of Disneyland right here with 'Magical Kingdom'. Instead of talking animals, zippy rides and fancy palaces, it's all about the bare faced brutalism and brazen sonic savageness. Everything from the jagged edges and strange harmonics on 'Anything You Say' to the pure filth and freakery of 'The Experiment' showcases how on-point Nick is right now with his sound and energy. Essential.

Demolition EP
Review: Crash bang wallop: yung Teezy's smashing up the system with this massive 'Demolition' derby on Pick The Lock. Six cuts in all, each one twisted in its own special Teezy way. The title track is pure croaks (some say it was made of 10,000 dead frogs but we think some toads got in the mix, too) while other highlights include the stuttering, slamming smash-up 'Represent', the floating tones and gentle uplift of the intro of 'Flux' and the yearning, woozy soulful jilts and twists of 'Baby'. Get wrecking.

Samurai EP
Review: Froidy returns to Pick The Lock with one of his busiest, most accomplished and downright heaviest EPs of his career so far. Not content with slicing our heads off with the diesel powered roll out of Samurai, he then proceeds to invite a whole crew of friends into the fray: Warhead, Stillz, Magenta, Decrypt and Noxxic all link-up with the young talent to deliver a range of premium collabs. Highlights include the guttural growl and grit of the Warhead collab 'Only A Game', the far-out croaky funk riffage on 'Host' (with Magenta) and the old school 2010s flavoured jump-up badness of 'Simulate' (with Noxxic) Savage.

Evacuate EP
Review: Hot on the heels of his 'Heaters' earlier this year, Pengo returns to Nick The Lot's criminal fraternity with this massive collection of emergency drills. Six cuts in total, featuring collabs with the likes of Amplify, Master Error, Cuvurs, StillZ and Magenta, 'Evacuate' will do the opposite of its title and fill dancefloors rather than clear them. Highlights include the disco vocal stab and star-gazing arpeggio on 'What You Want', the strong sense of fun and wonked out bass on 'Shutdown' and the bouncy, frog-like furty on the finale 'Despicable'. Now get outta here!

New Path EP
Review: Onlydrums bossman 10AD makes his debut on Nick The Lot's Pick The Lock with four slabs of high intensity jump up business. 'New Path' sets us up as we mean to go on... Big swaggering beats and a woozy, tippy bassline oozing all over the shop. Deeper into the EP we see him linking up with Duece for 'Glitch' where the beats bounce on a similar triplet but the bassline is pure subby harmonics, 'Energize' ups the momentum with skippier drums and breezier rave tones while 'The Price' finishes on the grizzliest note of the EP. Uncompromised alien funk. This is a path worth exploring...

Review: Hey crime fans! Fancy breaking some laws? Then look no further as Nick The Lot is back with more legal wrangles than Charlie Sheen. 'Super Criminals' breaks the laws of normality with its crazed high frequency flip-outs, 'Shook' breaks the law of gravity with its heavyweight stomps, 'The Other Room' breaks the law of good manners as it pukes into your ears, 'Fearmonger' breaks the law of hypeness with its ridiculous riff, 'Subtle Approach' breaks the law surprises with its sudden twists and guttural turns and finally 'A Fine Mess' breaks the law of stupidity with its totally nonsensical bass textures. Life sentences galore; may Nick The Lot's crime spree continue!

Let Me See EP
Review: Austria D&B boss and promoter of Vienna's world class Switch! parties, Pandora continues to carve new paths with her new line of killer beats. Following the 'Pandora Style' EP on K2 comes this hefty sesh on Pick The Lock. Four tracks, four flavours; 'Let Me See' takes a reggaeton style tuned vocal over a sparse rubber ball rhythm, 'Vitality' is all about the big breeze synths and grotty mechanical bass textures, 'Peer Pressure' is a heads down roller with finely tempered bass and rattling percussion while 'Tessa Rola' finishes with one of the most addictive tunes on the EP - 'Tessa Rola'. Watch out for that spiralling bassline.

Vibe Catcher EP
Review: Catch us up, catch us in, let us begin; StillZ is on Pick The Lock and he's laid down so many disgusting flavours it's a sin. Highlights across this stinky six pack include the opening grizzler 'Vibe Catcher' (with kindred spirit Metal Work), the tense groans and scratches of 'Cold Caller' and the euphoric tease of the build before hurtling into classic harmonic mid 2000 style hookage on 'Send The Details'. Complete with a collab with Master Error, it's an epic spread that provides for all chapters of the night. Catch you on the flip side.

The Snatcher EP
Review: Following some massive releases on Subway Soundz, everyone's favourite mother lover Froidy returns to Pick The Lock with an attention-snatching selection of grizzlers. It's business from the off as 'The Snatcher' grabs our ears, souls and belongings with its distorted revved up bassline. It's backed up by three more high pressure bassline shock-outs; '25 Bands' (with Deuce) twists us up into a low end lather, 'Veins' is all about that gutter-bound grotty swampy vibe while 'Function' takes us to the most disgusting corners of the sewer and serves us a five course meal. Day Light Robbery EP
Review: Why pack a torch and worry about tripping over things in the dark when you can just commit 'Day Light Robbery'? The Tories know this, Nick The Lot knows this, now you can too... Hike costs to the epically switched up bassline freakery of the title track, line your mates pockets to the sweet vocals and rubber ball bass of 'Dancehall Ting', line your own pockets to the hornets nest bassline stings of 'Green Light'. You need more incentives? Steal candy from babies to the space age grizzly funk of 'Rattletrap', rob the youth of their future to the bouncy bliss of 'Good Old Days' and discriminate to your hearts content to the wonky, dreamy funk of 'I've Been Wanting'. Or shut out the corrupt world and get deep into the sounds of one of drum & bass music's hardest working artists right now. Nick for prime minister.

Crawling EP
Review: Your favourite badman blacksmith is back! It's the currently unstoppable Metal Work who, fresh from releasing his own album on Gradian in December and a massive EP on High R8 last month, returns with yet more heavyweight gold. 'Crawling' is a full-spectrum affair with a powerful bass riff and all kinds of cosmic feels on the breakdown, 'Play God' flips between total choral dreaminess and 180% proof darkness while 'Attack' sees him teaming up with friends Master Error and Amplify for a vicious harmonic tear-up. Last but definitely not least, we hit 'Oh Why'. Bringing the EP together on a deep space flex, the intro and synths will leave you hanging in zero-G while the bassline brings you plummeting back to reality in the best possible way.

Various
Review: Ask no questions, we'll tell you no lies... D&B's answer to Eastender's Nick Cotton (ask your dad) Nick The Lot pulls up to a layby with a whole load of hot stock. All factory fresh from the most exciting producers emerging in the last few years, everywhere you look he's flinging out unsolicited goodies: Pengo & Amplify's scatty, off beat wriggle-a-thon 'Rock The Rhyme', Drowzee's super grizzly grot-fest 'All Of You', the dark funk of Teezy's slinky slapper 'Provoke' and Nick's own off-the-wall firestarter 'Loose Cannon' are just some of the red-handed bangers on offer here. Trapped EP
Review: Don't ask us how Teezy's managed to get trapped on a label that can apparently pick any lock but these are the type of messed up times in which we live. Luckily the music is just as messed up; 'Trapped' itself is an oscillating freak-out where a whole weave of basslines twist and turn into each other while 'Hold Up' is all about the loose, flabby bassline and swaggering beats. Elsewhere 'Sense' purrs into action with menacing charm before 'Malfunction' closes the EP with the most off-beat textures and fluctuations of the release. Already supported by the likes of Noisia, Teezy's not going to be trapped for much longer.

Review: Home invasion! Nick The Lot gathers you and your loved ones and throws you all in the cupboard while he frolics round your house doing things that will irk you in all kinds of ways; the militant growler 'Invasion' is the sound of him jumping on your bed with his shoes on, the squelchy funk of 'Buckle Up' is him moving your car seats and wing mirrors out of position, the golden rushes of 'Rougher Than' is him mixing your socks and pants draws up and the scatty laser firing 'Finally Appeared' is him tearing the last page out of every book you have out, then swapping them all around. Review: Pick The Lock Records is a drum 'n' bass record label owned by Nick The Lot, located in the UK. He presents the label's first various artists compilation here titled 'Back Of A Lorry Vol. 1' featuring six rising young producers within scene, such as Devonshire luminary Amplify with the classic techstep vibe of "Sleep", Cardiff-based DisKrete delivers a minimal stepper in the vein of DJ Krust on "Time's Up", while Germany's Cramz nails that classic Ram Recordings sound on the tough roller "Revolver" and Manchester's Kormz (WA3 Collective) hammers the message home in style with the sci-fi beats of "Mind Trap".

Delivered on his own imprint Pick The Lot, each of these four cuts hit with disgusting levels of energy and intensity. Highlights include the raffish growls on 'Pear Shaped', the stressed out AI voice and glitch-maxed twists on 'Dodgy Line', the rubber ball bassline and high levels of extreme slimy grot on 'A Living Nightmare' and the gutter-munching bassline and whimsical pipes on 'Witcraft'.
