Review: In a career spanning almost three decades, Pittsburgh's veteran producer Shawn Rudiman still continues to impress after all this time. He is back on his esteemed Pittsburgh Tracks with .. The Next Planet Over - which follows up last year's tremendous lontimeg player Timespan. A consistent producer throughout his time on the scene, this one is no exception so expect some energetic and unaduleterd analogue soul - as heard on the hypnotic minimalist bounce of "Works On Paper". The pounding, heads-down affair that is "Last Light On" is perfect for those strobed-out moments, while the hi-tech emotions of "Switching Rails" calls to mind the timeless vibe of second wave Detroit - that had all old-school nostalgists like us getting our groove on! Top release.
Cruise Control (Pittsburgh Track Authority version) - (7:39) 112 BPM
Review: Model Human's "Cruise Control" initially appeared on vinyl (and subsequently digital) back in 2014, in the process becoming one of the earliest releases from the Pittsburgh Tracks label. This reissue contains both of the mixes from that original release. The original version is a woozy and gently cheery chunk of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and pleasantly dreamy synth-pop in a similar vein to Junior Boys, Kelley Polar and Morgan Geist's overlooked Double Night Time album. On the virtual flipside, label founders Pittsburgh Track Authority offer their interpretation, canning most of Phil Boyd's vocal in favour of a dreamed, loved-up instrumental interpretation that naturally boasts a little more classic house influence.
