Review: Gunjack's latest release on Planet Rhythm, DUBWARS 003, is a tightly knit techno experience that propels you forward for its entire 24-minute runtime. The EP showcases Gunjack's mastery of the genre, weaving intricate pulsating basslines with hypnotic grooves, all shrouded in an atmosphere that's both dark and alluring. "The Fat Lady Sings" kicks off the journey with a driving kick drum that sets the pace. Layers of swirling synths build tension throughout, creating a sense of anticipation. A brief moment of melodic respite arrives with "Body Memory," before the unrelenting techno pulse returns in "Footprints In The Snow." This track stands out with its haunting soundscape and insistent rhythm that burrows deep. The closing track, "The Iceman Cometh," delivers a perfectly apt finale, leaving you feeling exhilarated and chilled in equal measure.

Review: "Emerge" is a phenomenal debut album that cements Berlin-based producer Red Rooms' position as a rising star in techno. The LP seamlessly blends driving energy with subtle experimentation, offering a well-rounded listening experience for techno purists and newcomers alike. Red Rooms' signature sound is on full display throughout the album. Clandestine sonic textures and short, infectious melodies intertwine with the powerful, locked-in grooves that propel each track forward. The album boasts several tracks primed to ignite dance floors. "No Turning Back" is a prime example, with its rave-ready stabs and relentless energy. "Transcendency" offers a more alien twist, merging driving techno with otherworldly drum patterns that will leave listeners mesmerized, while "Cypher" showcases Red Rooms' understanding of minimalism, channeling the spirit of Robert Hood with its stripped-down yet impactful groove. A must-listen.

Expel - (5:33) 142 BPM
Formula - (5:22) 144 BPM
Review: Veteran producer Dolby D teams up with emerging artist MarAxe for a release that is anything but formulaic. "Subdue" is set to a high pace -one that the rest of the EP emulates. However, despite the fast tempo, its rhythm is lithe, with subtle filtered builds combined with dense percussion. "Expel" is also powered by a relentless groove and percussive elements. On this occasion, the percussion alternates between delicate shards and powerful snare rolls that provide the back drop for a ponderous vocal sample. The title track maintains this fast tempo, but the sound takes a darker turn. Sheet metal riffs are fused with rattling hi hats , making for a furious finale.

Review: Dynamic Forces follows last year's Hardride release on Planet Rhythm with this firing four-tracker. "First Day of Life" is a Purposemaker-style dense groove, replete with insistent stabs and vocal snatches. Clocking in at the 140bpm mark, it gets the release off to a frenetic - but funky - start. "New Set Up" resounds to a similar tempo, but on this occasion, atmospheric synths lend the arrangement a deeper edge. In contrast, "Plague" is all about its bruising drums, utilitarian claps and a pounding rhythm. Returning to Millsian influences again, Dynamic Forces drops "Tango". This time, the focus is on a white-knuckle ride through grainy, relentless minimalism.

Rove Ranger - "Onakum" - (3:53) 144 BPM
Review: Planet Rhythm continues its commitment to supporting new artists on this fine split release. Shabaam & Aladarus kick-start the EP with "Colossal", their debut for the label. Led by surging chords and tight percussive bursts, it lives up to its title. Lenny San's "Orbital" follows in a similar vein, albeit with a more intense take, as chords bluster and build over tough kicks and insistent hi hats. OFF / GRID, who has become a regular artist on Planet Rhythm, fuses tight percussion and steely drums with a looped synth on "Inner City Blues". Maintaining this tough but musical theme, Rove Ranger's "Onakum" integrates vocal snatches with hissing hi hats and dubby stabs.

Imla - (5:12) 138 BPM
Review: On Hydraulic, Yan Cook goes down a more pacy route than usual. The title track sees the prolific producer drop the kind of tunnelling, hypnotic techno he is best known for, albeit at a faster pace. And on "Null", he drops an abrasive, searing rhythm peppered with insistent tones . "Imla" is the only track that differs from this overall approach. Focused on a rolling, metallic groove, it sees Cook layer in wave upon wave of hypnotic filters. It's only a temporary divergence though, and the Red Rooms version of "Imla" reverts to fast-paced approach, yielding a peak time tribal techno banger.

Review: Fresko follows two EPs last year on Planet Rhythm with this fine release. Extending his musical range across four tracks, he kicks starts Post Urban Condition with the title track's angular, metallic rhythm. "You Have Sexy Arms" follows a similar trajectory, albeit with vocal snippets woven into the chiming chords. "Lowme" sees Fresko deliver a dense, rolling groove based on steely drums and insistent chord builds. On "School", this fast-rising producer follows a different path. While familiar elements like the surging chords and vocal snippets are audible, the groove is more house-based, and will broaden his appeal to a whole new audience.

Review: When it comes to traditional warehouse industrial techno these days a producer leading the charge is France's klint, an artist who returns to Planet Rhythm following his 2022 Industry EP. Making his way to other labels like EarToGround, Modularz, Truncate and Rekids Special Projects of late also - he hits all the right notes in this Blues & Machines EP. Very much Detroit inspired, each track here plays out like some kind of new school amalgamation of Robert Hood's legendary Minimal Nation album mixed with a touch of Motor: Nighttime World 3 with some futuristic Kraftwerk ("Back 2 Back") thrown in for good measure.

Review: Not to be confused with a dethroned French monarch, Louis The 4th drops a crafty EP for the seminal Planet Rhythm label. With a focus on hard-edged, stripped back club techno throughout, the release gets off to a frenetic start thanks to the propulsive, percussive "Blue Monday". This regal sounding producer follows a similar path on "Auto Regulation", where a slamming rhythm goes through a series of filtered builds and drops. "Reconfiguration" resounds to a slower pace, with Louis The 4th dropping a rolling groove peppered with atmospheric synths and metallic percussion. "Slanted" is an outlier - the sound is more tribal, but thankfully, the impact remains the same.

This Risk Management EP serves us four more numbers and kicks off with its man of the hour, klint, with a pumping industrial groove track "Flacon". Review: Brian Gibbs aka Gunjack has been releasing techno music for over 20 years. This experience and depth of knowledge is audible throughout Detroit Tango. The title track resounds to a rolling groove and bursts of dense percussion. "Rocket Surgery" sees Gunjack explore similar territory, albeit with heavier kicks and insistent, doubled up claps. In contrast, "Broken Adjectives" is a big room Detroit techno track, led by epic synth builds. Keeping the listener guessing, "Pachinko 24h"is like a halfway house between these styles. A looped melody plays out over a driving rhythm that drops and builds to dramatic effect.

Review: Following last year's S-101 release, Muzmin makes a return to Planet Rhythm. Comprising four tracks, Repsyched is a hard-edged, peak-time affair. "Chasing None" resounds to tough kicks and razor-sharp percussion, with Muzmin layering in eerie chord sequences. The title track is focused on a linear groove and a pulsating bass, with similar otherworldly tones peppered throughout the arrangement. "Gryphon" has a grainier sound, as Muzmin deploys dense, visceral drums and a jarring groove for maximum impact. Rounding out the release, "Bare Attention" marks another shift in style. With a focus on atmospheric textures, it is powered by a stepping rhythm.

Review: Planet Rhythm regular Red Rooms returns to the label with this dance floor focused four-tracker. The title track revolves around layered, building chords and a relentless percussive backdrop. Changing direction, the driving rhythm of "2B110BE" is filled with insistent bleeps. "On The Level" offers a more insistent take on this approach. Red Rooms ups the tempo, makes the drums more visceral, resulting in a frazzled but hypnotic looped techno track. "Prometheus" sees him go down a minimal route; powered by an angular Rob Hood-style groove, peppered with bleak synth stabs, it makes for a compelling finale to this fine, hard-hitting record.

Review: Following his debut on Planet Rhythm earlier this year, William Arist returns with a release that is heavily inspired by the 303. "Stickman" sets the tone for this EP, as gurgling acid lines unravel over a rolling rhythm. "The Dream Book" also has a strong 303 focus. This time, it's fused with a harder, percussive rhythm that provides a relentless backdrop for a succession of tonal tweaks and turns. The title track sees Arist channel the energy of 90s techno, with distorted kicks and a pounding groove fused with wild acid builds and drops. "Unmentionable" has the same focus, where a swarm of noisy 303s are combined with a pummelling drum track.

Tanzhaus - (6:44) 134 BPM
Review: Over the past few years, Deas has built up a catalogue of impressive releases on CLR, Second State and Planet Rhythm. He returns to the long-running techno label for Tanzhaus, a collection of tough tracks, designed for the club. "Black Air" resounds to swathes of dark percussion and insistent tonal sequences. "Cut" is just as impactful, but sees Deas take a different approach. Led by ominous synth lines and a frazzled bass, it draws on hardcore influences, putting them in a modern context. "Dark Line" marks another change in approach; focused on a fusion of building tonal sequences and a clubby groove, its pared back approach hits the peak time target. The title track isn't as hard-hitting, but Deas' use of ghostly synths and insistent tones is nothing short of incendiary.

Review: German techno duo OFF/GRID, presenting their latest offering a collection of four heavy and hard-hitting techno tracks on Rotterdam's label Planet Rhythm. OFF/GRID ingeniously blend hip-house samples with "Jiggy Rhythm", off-kilter stabs on "Shattered Dreams", and dub techno undulations into the rhythmic 4x4 structure with "Shifted Reality". If you're ready to take a sonic voyage through the cosmos, let OFF/GRID's mind-bending techno transport you to a whole new dimension.

Koala - (5:26) 144 BPM
Dinga - (5:26) 143 BPM
Review: Planet Rhythm continues its mission of cultivating emerging techno talent. On Senga, Markus Axelsson aka MarAxe delivers powerful tracks that are primed for peak-time use.
"Mango" gets the EP off to an impressive start, led by filtered chords and booming kicks. The title track follows in a similar vein - based on a dramatic rolling rhythm, it's powered by piledriving percussion. In contrast, "Impala" starts off in a subdued mode, but it's only a temporary situation - as the arrangement progresses, cavernous filters and snare rolls crash in with devastating effect.
The rickety rhythms of "Koala" are bathed in a sea of white noise, while MarAxe rounds off the release with the throbbing bass-led "Dinga".
