Review: When it comes to traditional warehouse industrial techno these days a producer leading the charge is France's klint, an artist who returns to Planet Rhythm following his 2022 Industry EP. Making his way to other labels like EarToGround, Modularz, Truncate and Rekids Special Projects of late also - he hits all the right notes in this Blues & Machines EP. Very much Detroit inspired, each track here plays out like some kind of new school amalgamation of Robert Hood's legendary Minimal Nation album mixed with a touch of Motor: Nighttime World 3 with some futuristic Kraftwerk ("Back 2 Back") thrown in for good measure.

Review: Not to be confused with a dethroned French monarch, Louis The 4th drops a crafty EP for the seminal Planet Rhythm label. With a focus on hard-edged, stripped back club techno throughout, the release gets off to a frenetic start thanks to the propulsive, percussive "Blue Monday". This regal sounding producer follows a similar path on "Auto Regulation", where a slamming rhythm goes through a series of filtered builds and drops. "Reconfiguration" resounds to a slower pace, with Louis The 4th dropping a rolling groove peppered with atmospheric synths and metallic percussion. "Slanted" is an outlier - the sound is more tribal, but thankfully, the impact remains the same.

Review: Following his debut on Planet Rhythm earlier this year, William Arist returns with a release that is heavily inspired by the 303. "Stickman" sets the tone for this EP, as gurgling acid lines unravel over a rolling rhythm. "The Dream Book" also has a strong 303 focus. This time, it's fused with a harder, percussive rhythm that provides a relentless backdrop for a succession of tonal tweaks and turns. The title track sees Arist channel the energy of 90s techno, with distorted kicks and a pounding groove fused with wild acid builds and drops. "Unmentionable" has the same focus, where a swarm of noisy 303s are combined with a pummelling drum track.

Review: Following 2021's debut on Planet Rhythm, VIII-RE returns to the label with another impactful release. The title track gets the release off to a frenetic start. Featuring a combination of pounding tribal drums, moody bass and effective filters, these elements play host to a terse vocal sample. "DF-RT" follows a similar path. This time, the relentless kicks are augmented by searing rave stabs. On "Shimmering", VIII-RE explores a different approach. Fusing a rolling rhythm with epic chord builds, these elements combine for a dramatic club track. Rounding off the release is "TMT-2". Led by reverberating claps and featuring ghostly synth builds, it's a rousing finale.

Review: One of Planet Rhythm's most consistent emerging artists, Steve Parker returns to the label after 2022's X-2222. This four-tracker sees him cover a range of styles. The title track is a fast-paced, lean rhythm, featuring insistent chords and firing percussion. On "Aural Singularity", the focus changes as Parker goes deeper to conjure up a lush dub techno workout. While the tempo is slower, it remains an effective club track. "Paranoid Skyline" also embraces dubbed out soundscapes, but Parker fuses it with relentless percussion and swirling filters to ensure it packs a strong dance floor punch. "Psychotic Impact" is more linear and led by looped chords, demonstrating that when it comes to tough but soulful club techno, Parker has few peers.

Parker is an exponent of classically inclined techno with subtle twists. 'Monofunctional' kicks off and is a hefty warehouse cut with dub weight and frazzled synth work warming up the frosty hi-hats. 'Hyperspectral' is urgent and tense with its tight synth loops and clipped, punchy drums. 'X-2222' is more edge-of-your-seat dark techno brilliance and 'Flashes' then lights up the rave with its synth stabs and rusted drum loops.

Review: For its latest split release, Planet Rhythm welcomes some regular names and new faces. Re:Axis, who has released many times on the label, opens proceedings with the wonderfully tripped out "Protoportal", where a sleek, pulsating groove is fused with insistent percussion, creating a cavernous effect. Petter B's "Transporter" is denser, as firing hi hats underpin a relentless, tonal groove, while VSK's "Wrap" marks a shift towards glitchy, bass-heavy territory, with gut-busting low end combined with abstract metallic sounds. Rounding off the release, Re:Axis teams up with Scalameriya, another Planet Rhythm regular, with the duo upping intensity levels on the linear, driving "Spectra".

Review: Giorgio Gigli follows his 2019 Space Whales album with Bichord on Planet Rhythm with another set of collaborative works. Working with Paul Ritch, Gigli delivers pulsating, throbbing grooves, shot through with ominous, acid-led menace on "1", "2" and "3". Through his collaboration with Francesco Visconti aka VSK, Gigli then proceeds to turn his focus on more dubbed out aspects of his dark techno sound, which results in the building chord intensity of "Silent Age" and "Hidden Conspiracy", with the partnership culminating on the mesmerising "Memories of an Unconnect Era". The final part of this collaborative work is with Ness, and here the release takes on a deeper aspect, with the evocative "Erosion" impressing most.

Review: Following on from 2020's Timelapse release, prolific producer Axel Karakasis returns to Planet Rhythm with another lean techno EP. "Hermes" represents a more offbeat than usual approach, as dubbed out percussion is fused with a stepping rhythm. On the title track, Karakasis reverts to his typical style, with a relentless acid line building and building over militaristic percussion and relentless kick drums. "Outspread" continues in this vein and the snarling 303s are replaced by repetitive stabs that are then combined with a pounding rhythm. There's no let-up either on "Fertile", with the Greek artist conjuring up dramatic filters that reverberate against a driving, steely arrangement.
