Review: On the latest volume in their ongoing series of mini-compilations, Play Pal Music has decided to showcase tracks from up-and-coming artists who - in their words - "lurk in he darker recesses of the musical spectrum". That means a mixture of stylish, alien-sounding, dark-wave goes psychedelic nu-disco throb-jobs (Arvin Fajar's 'No Rush'), deeply trippy and hallucinatory mid-tempo workouts (Andrwas Rund's 'Hard To Say'), acid-flecked Italo-disco pumpers (the peak-time rush of M Love's EP highlight 'Wray'), deep, EBM-flecked late night haziness (the ghostly chords, foreboding lead lines and creepy grooves of Leo Af Ekenstam's 'Blackcomb'), muscular post-Italo instrumental synth-pop hedonism ('Omega' by Alberto Melloni) and immersive, drowsy, saucer-eyed soundscapes (the slo-mo psychedelia of Manner of Speaking's 'Harpodolic').
