Review: Spain's Poetry In Motion serve up a three-tracker from Erik Ellmann, a producer from Leipzig, Germany whose work has featured on such respected labels as Large, Beef and Sundries. Disco/funk grooves from the classier, more understated end of the spectrum are the order of the day generally: the looping 'Somebody Else' itself has a wistful, Lemon Jelly-ish feel, the mellow, piano-sprinked 'Dad's Chords' nudges us a little closer to jazz-funk territory, while 'Soul Brother' leans towards the boogie side of the street and sports a vaguely Robert Owens-esque male vocal... it could even be man himself, but with just two lines it's hard to tell!

Review: Two predictably high-quality slices of contemporary funk/disco from scene stalwart Hurlee. The title track 'Le Disque Tropical' is an unhurried, chuggy affair that tops a lolloping funk beat and a heavyweight bassline with parping, Brass Construction-esque horns, with mucho use of the filters and the saxophone getting something approaching a solo around the five-minute mark. 'Juicy Jazzy', meanwhile, is another filter-heavy cut, but this time with a more overtly tropical/lounge-y kind of feel. The title track's the one for peaktime play, but the latter will serve you well for warm-up sets and those longer mixes.

Review: Who doesn't love a sunset? Hurlee certainly does, as he's outed himself as an enthusiastic supporter of watching the sun go down on his latest two-track single, which also marks his first appearance on Poetry In Motion. Title track "The Sunset Lover" is every bit as warm, summery and drowsy as you'd expect, with pitched-up soul vocal snippets, filtered loops and jazzy disco samples - think bass, guitar etc - shuffling away atop a rolling, loose-limbed deep house beat. The Spanish producer strolls further towards cut-up disco-house territory on the similarly warm and hazy "My Sweet Lady", a track whose bassline is as rubbery as its beats are bouncy.

Review: As the name suggests, the latest missive from rising Serbian producer Frikado is both soulful and fresh. The title track is a pleasingly breezy and sun-kissed affair, with chopped-up soulful vocal snippets and swirling orchestral samples wrapping around a snappy, no-nonsense rhythm track. It's warming, attractive and really rather good. Mancunian twosome Studioheist give "Soulfreshness" a chunkier and bumpier makeover, teasing out the chopped-up string samples over a bass-heavy, US garage style groove. To complete a solid EP, Frikardo serves up "Kavuma", a jazzy and undulating chunk of soul-fired deep house full of snaking sax lines, tumbling jazz guitar and whooping R&B vocal flourishes.

Review: For their latest release, the Poetry In Motion crew has recruited up-and-coming producer Purple Ice, AKA Ireland-based French house enthusiast Rob Marsini. There's much to admire about "Mas Amor", a chunky, piano-laden peak-time house cut rich in rubbery disco bass, filtered Latino vocal samples and bustling, bouncy drums. The Hurlee remix successfully breaks up the beats while retaining the core 4/4 rhythm, at the same time adding some even warmer instrumentation and extended female vocal samples. Poetry In Motion bosses Tete De La Course, meanwhile, somehow make the Greystones-based producer's original track even bouncier and bass-heavy on their tasty Latin house rework.

Review: Sub Urban label chief Guri takes time out from delivering killer material on his own imprint to serve up some serious heat on Spanish imprint Poetry in Motion. The Mallorcan producer showcases his soulful side on "Devotion", a deliciously jazzy and smooth number where disco style vocals and guitar flourishes rise above a bouncy, bass-heavy groove. French producer Phonk D steps up to remix the title track, wrapping choice elements of Guri's original around a squeezable synth bassline and mind-melting cowbells, before seductive bonus cut "Fool For You" impresses via languid beats, breezy vibraphone motifs and soft-focus jazz-funk bass. In a word: impressive.

Review: Hotmood - known to his nearest and dearest as Guillermo Gonzalez - seems to be in a rich vein of form. This outing on Poetry In Motion follows hot on the heels of acclaimed outings on Editorial and Whiskey Disco. As usual, there's plenty of blurring the boundaries between re-editing, remixing and original composition, with opener "The Drum Beat" smothering a metronomic house groove in jazzy electric piano solos, lilting orchestration, heady female choral vocals and rubbery disco bass. The breezy, superior disco-house vibe continues on "Flying Sample", where looped and chopped strings and horns cluster around a rock solid mid-tempo groove, while "I Don't Want Nobody" is a bluesy and summery disco shuffler.

Review: Hailing from Gijon in the north of Spain, Poetry in Motion is a concept, a way of life and record label created by Tete de la Course, Paul Rudder, Oui and Hurlee. Next up on their label are Vienna's Jakobin & Domino with some quality deep house music that has seen them release previously on top labels such as Luv Shack Records and Large Music. The sexy late night groove of "Wanna Get Up" is real proper deep house that ticks all the right boxes: lush Rhodes melody, funk bass and backed by dusty rhythm arrangements. The smooth and sexy slo-mo groove continues on "Don't Let Em Getcha" while the ultra-deep closer "True Things Are Rare" nails that soulful and bittersweet Prescription Records style vibe.

Review: Poetry in Motion is a label based out of Gijon in Spain: a concept and way of life created by Tete de la Course, Paul Rudder, Oui & Hurlee. It is the latter who serves up some fine deep disco joints on the 'Look At Me' EP. Real name Inaki Hurtado Diaz, the Palma de Mallorca native became interested in electronic music at a young age, being influenced by the sounds of deep house. He began DJing at popular clubs in the city, sharing the decks with best locals in town. He has had other releases thus far on labels like: Large Music, Nervous Records, King street and many more. He offers up the lo-slung, slo-mo joint that is the title track, in all its uplifting and neon-lit glory. "La Notte" seriously brings the funk and emotion with its familiar vocal refrain and steady swingin' shuffle beneath, but it's all about the Ziggy Phunk LOVE remix up next which really gets the party started.

Review: Dubai's Jus Tadi is slowly building a quietly impressive discography. This single for Poetry in Motion comes on the back of solid outings on Hotbox Music, Sub Urban and, most recently, Fade to Funk. As with much of his previous work, "Lift Me Up" joins the dots between woozy deep house, sample-heavy disco-house and the hazy world of vintage deep house. The track bobs along on waves of hypnotic, locked-in percussion, rising and falling synthesizer lines and some choice disco vocal samples, all the while creating a mesmerizing mood. The accompanying Tete de la Course Remix drags the track further towards rich and groovy deep house territory via more bass-heavy bottom end, filtered synthesizer loops and some choice new spoken word vocal samples.

Review: With this rock solid EP, confirmed label-hopper Erik Ellmann makes his bow on the recently launched Poetry in Motion label. He begins in confident fashion, underpinning Dixieland style jazz samples and bluesy vocals with a lolloping, bongo-heavy house grooves on the quietly impressive "Ease Harmony" (think Mr Scruff's "Get a Move On" with French Touch filters and a dash of Chicago boompty, and you're close). M.ono provides a loopy and locked-in deep house interpretation that benefits greatly from some tumbling jazz guitar solos, before Ellman turns a much-loved peak-time disco cut into a dusty house bumper (confirmed floor-filler "Mad at You").

Review: Steve Young may be Werkshy, but he's no layabout. Everyday is his third EP of the year to date, building on the success of outings on Midnight Right and Guesthouse. This time round, he's in a thoroughly cheery and summery mood, first impressing with the effortlessly soulful grooves of "Everyday". The track, which features samples from a self help record as well as some vintage soulful vocal snippets, sits somewhere between hazy deep house and reggae-inspired dub house. If you fancy a slightly straighter, U.S deep house style revision, the 4004 Remix should fit the bill. Also worth a listen is EP closer "Everybody", a rolling chunk of disco-driven deep house goodness with added electrofunk bass.
