Walk With Me
Walk With Me - (4:45) 124 BPM
Walk With Me (Rick Wade remix) - (5:52) 120 BPM
Walk With Me (Cee Elassaad remix) - (6:31) 124 BPM
Walk With Me (Tree Threes Jazz re-work) - (6:04) 125 BPM Hot
Review: There's been quite a run of singles from James Curd lately - could there be an album in the offing? Who knows, but for now there's 'Walk With Me', a moody, contemplative cut topped with a couple of sparingly-applied vocal snips, including what sounds like a micro-bite from DSK's classic 'What Would We Do?'. On the remix front, fellow veteran Rick Wade beefs it up slightly for 3am floors, Cee Elassaad adds a hefty, live-sounding bassline, while the Tree Threes Jazz Rework strips things back and adds cascading drums and squawking sax. Wade's rub just nudges it for this writer but it's all good, to coin a phrase.

Sunday Queen (Art Of Tones remix) - (5:16) 122 BPM Hot
Sunday Queen (Boston Bun remix) - (4:34) 126 BPM
Sunday Queen (feat JDub - vocal mix) - (5:42) 120 BPM
Review: Perhaps best known to the world at large as Greenskeepers, under which alias he released a string of EPs on the mighty Classic in the noughties, James Curd made his debut on the Chi-town house scene at the tender age of 15 and he's never looked back. This latest outing on his own Pronto label has a similarly jazzy, funked-up feel to those early Greenskeepers releases and the Original mix would fit into deep house or funk sets equally well, while the Vocal Mix adds a party-hearty rap vocal and two further rubs from Art Of Tones and Boston Bun push the track into straight-up house territory.

Sublime Mind (Miguel Campbell remix) - (4:54) 124 BPM
Sublime Mind (Jonasclean remix) - (6:55) 124 BPM
Review: Chicago veteran James Curd continues to use his Pronto label as a vehicle for his own productions, which are uniformly floor-friendly and more often than not pleasingly quirky. That's certainly the case with 'Sublime Mind', a bouncy slab of peak-time house funkiness in which jazzy electric piano motifs, crunchy Clavinet riffs and sampled spoken word vocals rise above a restless disco-funk bassline and sweat-soaked drums. The five-strong remix package is full of treats, too, from the thumping, organ-fuelled sweatiness of Friend Within's peak-time ready take and the gorgeous deep house warmth of Byron The Aquarius's superb version, to the tech-tinged dub house hypnotism of Manuel Sahagun's version and the 'French Touch'-esque loop-house heaviness of Jonasclean's interpretation.

Review: House music label Pronto continues its swift ascent with a dynamic sixth release that is guaranteed to ignite the dance floor. This collaborative effort comes from the talented duo James Curd & Jonasclean, who waste no time in unleashing their commanding and weighty track, "Mullen It Over". This stomper boasts captivating, sinuous leads and an exhilarating rush that will leave you spellbound. Fred P offers his reinterpretation, taking the track to profound depths with a heady and spiritual touch. Marcel Vogel also joins the remix lineup, injecting a more upbeat vibe into the mix with lush, sun-soaked chords. "Tried For Love" featuring Robert Owens takes us back to the roots of vocal Chicago house, delivering a timeless gem that showcases Curd's prowess in crafting classic house music.

One Day, One Day, One Day, One Day (Hebdonis remix) - (6:36) 126 BPM
Review: James Curd brings the fifth iteration of his PRONTO imprint, featuring a remix ensemble that complements his club-ready original on the upbeat track, 'One Day, One Day, One Day.' The original mix has a funk-infused house rhythm that propels the evocative vocals over a floor-focused arrangement. Glistening guitar licks glide on top of a thick bass, creating a soulful sound. Parisian house maverick, The Mekanism, adds more bump on his dub, while KX9000 delivers a musically rich interpretation that blurs the lines between broken beat and future funk. Chicago house royalty K' Alexi Shelby pays homage to Curd's Chi-town roots on his discreetly hallucinatory version, stripping back the instrumentation as alien synths echo over strobe-lit floors. Frivolous Jackson's remix reframes the vocal over snappy drums and saucer-eyed synth motifs, while Hebdonis sustains the energy on his hyper-dynamic revision, combining shuffling drums with bass for an irresistible sound.

I Am One, I Am Many (Make A Dance dub mix) - (7:04) 124 BPM
Review: Following two collaborative releases (with Marcellus Pittman and Marius Vries respectively), Chicago veteran and sometime Greenskeepers member James Curd goes solo for the third missive on his freshly minted label, Pronto. In its original form (track one), 'I Am One, I Am Many' is an insatiably funky, Chicago boompty-influenced roller that makes great use of booming bass, crunchy Clavinet riffs, excitable disco samples and atmospheric female spoken word vocals. London twosome Make a Dance provide a trio of reworks: a rolling, organ-flecked, '90s US garage-influenced 'Remix', a hazy and effects-laden 'Deep Mix' and an organ bassline-propelled, extra-percussive 'Dub'. Elsewhere across the EP you'll find further reworks from T.U.R.F (big room, warehouse-ready hedonism), Nenor (synth-sporting, dub disco-influenced house stomp) and Adelphi Music Factory (colossal, hands-in-the-air disco-house bounce).

Review: Long-serving Chicagoan James Curd established the Pronto label earlier this year as a vehicle for his entertaining, party-starting house productions. He's already served up collaborations with Marcellus Pittman and Marius de Vries, and here drops a killer solo workout. 'Psychedelic Freak' draws influence from a mixture of classic NYC nu-disco and star-gazing deep house, with Curd layering cut-up vocal samples and spacey synth sounds atop unfussy beats and a bassline reminiscent of Metro Area classic 'Muira'. The accompanying remix package is predictably strong, with Tour-Maurbourg's jazzy boompty-goes-breakbeat house, Drop Out Orchestra's Morgan Geist style revision and Ten Fingerz' deep disco-house flip being our picks of a very strong bunch.

Auditory Gates (original Demo instrumental) - (6:55) 125 BPM
Review: The second release on the freshly minted Pronto label sees experienced Chicagoan house producer (and label founder) James Curd join forces with an unlikely collaborator: GRAMMY-winning British composer, keyboardist and audio engineer Marius De Vries. The pair's original, club-length mix is especially impressive, with Curd's drowsy spoken word vocals, spacey synth flourishes, warming chords and cascading vibraphone melodies riding a rubbery, action-packed disco-house groove. Jacques Renault opts for an extra percussive, filter-sporting, French Touch-style disco-house approach on his weighty remix, while Oliver Dollar makes the track bigger, snappier, heavier and bolder. Throw in a swathe of instrumental reworks and the more fluid and sun-splashed 'demo' version and you have an excellent package.
