23 Waist
Review: London's Blacksmif touches down on PTN, Ramp's neat little offshoot reserved for only the nuttiest of UK-filtered dance music. "23 Waist" adds a wailing sample onto funky, shuffling garage breaks, whereas "Swimming With Jack Lumber" is less floor-driven and inherently sparser, but still brimming with mesmerising UK funk. "Effectivmrkt" ties things off with another seductive garage swing, placing Blacksmif very much in the limelight for us here at Juno HQ.

There For Me/Contextual
Review: While his music may be taking its time in disseminating out into the wider world, Thefft has been quietly amassing something of a reputation with his techno-garage hybrid constructions for labels such as Fulcrum amongst others. This time stepping up to Ramp spin-off Pattern, Thefft brings two varied slices of crisp, finely shaped and buffed floor greasers that sit neatly in the five-sided jigsaw puzzle that is contemporary dance music. "There For Me" keeps to a strict techno framework with plenty of space for zippy details of sound to echo in, keeping the palette diverse and dynamic without peaking or troughing too drastically. "Contextual" is a more rubbery beast, bouncing off a killer 2-step blueprint and nagging chord hook to create a snappy kind of futurism that cries out for some high-end interpretive dance moves in response.

Made Up My Mind
Review: Ahead of Hackman's album dropping, PTN release this juicy funky-house hybrid, which makes great use of some hypnotically arranged vocals and some subtle jacking hats, as well as a butter-smooth bottom end. Just as silky, "Bam Bam" gets even deeper - a real shift away from his earlier, more grimey/tropical beats. But don't fret - there's still plenty of nasty funky flavour here. House fans of any hue will adore these two essential new cuts.
