Review: Here's something to raise a smile or two on cold January mornings: an all-star hook-up between DJ Spen, John Khan and Gary Hudgins, featuring fine lead vocals from Leighton Jones. In its original form (track one), 'Yah Mo B There' is a gorgeously and summery house roller rich in squelchy synth bass, sparkling pads, jazzy chords and twinkling electronic melodies, all topped off with a strong, gospel-influenced lead vocal. Spen and Hudgins join forces to provide two fine reworks: a 'remix' that's lighter, sunnier and boasts a shuffling, Latin-tinged groove, and the simply gorgeous, carnival-ready 'Atmospheric Mix'.
Review: It was February 2016 when Spencer Morales and Randy Roberts' superb "Without Your Love" - a kind of 21st century take on Philadelphia soul - first appeared in record stores. Just under a year under, it returns, with a clutch of tasty new remixes from Kenny Dope, Sean McCabe and DJ Spen & Tommy Davis. The dope man kicks things off with a skewed soulful house rub full of wonky electronic bass and his usual tasty beats (a fine drum-heavy "beats" version is also included later in the EP), while Spen & Davis deliver a deliciously authentic 1970s style instrumental disco dub. Bristol-based McCabe serves up two versions; a smooth and sultry "Classic Mix", and the more electronic, bass-heavy "Message Mix".

What Love's Gonna Do (DJ Spen/Thommy Sublevels remix) - (6:49) 123 BPM
What Love's Gonna Do (Modaji Club mix) - (6:40) 127 BPM
What Loves Gonna Do (Modaji Rubber dub) - (6:57) 127 BPM
Review: Veteran American singer Joi Cardwell who had a string of 90s club hits now sees her tune "What Love's Gonna Do" reworked by some top remixers. There are five reworks beginning with DJ Spen and Gary Hudgins' back-to-98 soulful garage-lite mix before Spen combines talents with Thommy Sublevels for a less fussy low-slung 4/4 house cut. Elsewhere Modaji's Heavenly Deep Mix is exactly that - a beguiling, off kilter jam that's like floating on fluffy electronic clouds. He also provides a further two mixes - the shimmering funky house of his "Club mix" and a spectacularly hypnotic and stomping "Rubber dub".
