Review: Every now and then, you just want a release that slams start to finish. No frills, no pretence of trying to be something that it isn't, just solidly banging D&B that gets your head nodding and your feet moving. Ben Rooney has done that here and this single is a run of attitude-packed jump up, all of which would sound fat through a sound system. 'Evolve' is a highlight, with vocal samples leading you in into a fluttering array of jagged synth-lines and boom-bap drum hits, a vibe that's quickly transferred across into 'Get High' - snapping percussive hits, moody bass notes and melody that oozes power. This is proper foghorn stuff.
Review: Ever liked the flavour of some D&B so much you wanted to lick it? Well, now you can, with Rogue-T's Clapham EP. You can't actually lick it but you'll certainly like it, as Rogue-T has gone for a classic rough sounding approach that seriously lends itself to some underground listening. Just check out 'Break', with a classic vibe you'll instantly recognise and a bassline that'll shudder your bones, it's a neat exemplification of the rip-roaring approach that's been attempted here. The other tunes don't disappoint either, with sick atmospherics on 'Relic' and a feature from Dsy on 'Dangerous'. Big EP.
Review: Tekon is on Raw UK and he's coming at you with a collection of beats that honestly don't care about being a bit rough round the edges because they're all about the vibe, and that's here in spades. 'Viewpoint' sneaks in some class weed-related samples and overlays them above a storming rolling beat, with darkness and eeriness being the name of the game here. 'Universe' had a wicked build up before pummelling out all over the stop with a gargling, heavy back end. Nice EP.
