Back on Rebel Traxx, back to doing what he does best. The enigmatic Kaiten steps into the Friday limelight with four shady, mechanical knots of utterly mind-melting dubstep for the more curated of eardrums. "No Fussing No Fighting" is a dark, lurking shape-shifter of a tune, surrounded by tonnes of eerie tones, and the same thing applies to "Meditation", which contains comparatively more bassweight at its core. "One More Time" stutters frostily across a barren landscape of tenebrous harmonies and, with the help of Aftee on the vocals, "Fulton Drive" applies a tech-swing to a masterfully minimalistic groove of outsider sonics. Deep, deep mystical dub vibes.
As big fans of Provoke, we were ecstatic when we heard tell of his new album 'Deeper Waters', as we knew from the jump it would be jam packed with vibrancy and finesse. Upon listening it immediately becomes clear that it is a project of diversity with styles stretching from the stunning soundscaping of 'Fate' to the more intense melodic movement and drum designs of 'Lost In Time'. Our highlights for the overall project have to include the incredible melody design of 'Chasing You' which blends subtle growling reeses with airy atmospherics and soft vocal expressions. Another special mention has to go out to the stunning sub processing on 'Musical Language' and the emotive harmonies on 'Thoughts Can Change', both of which also prove to be standouts from this impressive body of work.
Thought provoking sub magic from Arizon's Yukona as he makes his debut on Rebel Traxx. His complexities and sense of contrast are apparent from off as "False Evidence" balances dub elements, mild 8-bit flurries and the background sound of a grown chap mourning. Powerful. "You Know Why I'm Here" bounces with a rubber bassline, horror textures and the paranoid chitter chatter of a police radio. "Speak Louder" ups the tempo to halftime vibes with a dark twister that's futuristic enough to make Ivy Lab quake in their boots while "Keep Moving Forward" closes with a stripped back, heavily swung drum rhythm, faraway marching percussion and an evocative piano line. Emphatic.
