Review: Robbie Blanco's Melbourne-based re-edits label serve up a third 'best of' collection in honour of their fifth birthday. To call these 're-edits', though, is perhaps to do them something of a disservice: whlle many re-editors will simply loop up the familiar parts of a much-loved classic, Redux Inc like to get a little more hands-on, to the extent that some of these tracks are really closer to covers or sample-based 'tributes'. Either way you get some familiar cuts from the likes of the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Lonnie Liston-Smith and Jackie Moore mixed in with slightly more esoteric nuggets, all capably rejigged for maximum contemporary dancefloor appeal.

Review: Disco aficionados look no further for your fresh overdubs, edits and fire selections than this latest REDUX INC session - five epic years in the making. Packing plenty of punch in the drums - there's no denying the dancefloor designs of what's on offer here. Take the epic disco strings of "Keep Your Body Working" and "Super Lover" to the soulful diva sessions in "Real Love". For those classic jams to bring the house down it's all about "Spacer" and "Let Me Love You" (no explanation necessary) with some more abstract numbers like "Hare's Lump" and "Showtime" helping balance a slightly exotic and funk vibe next to some straight-laced classics in "Can't You See Me (Lethal Weapon mix)" and "Ten Percent (Casa Blancos Multitrack remix)". REDUX raining GOLD!

Review: Kariya's "Let Me Love You For Tonight" is a freestyle classic from 1988 which received a massive remix by Electronic Youth a little while back. You can now add Casa Blanco's version to the list which retains all the neon-lit qualities of the original, yet reshaped for modern dancefloors. The track originally appeared on her debut, non-album single on Sleeping Bag Records. It was written by and produced by Bob and Jerry Ferrer. After this, Kariya disappeared into obscurity.

Review: It's easy to forget, from a 2021 viewpoint, just how all-conquering the Acid Jazz label was back in the day. Whatever people like to tell you now, take it from one who was there: at post-club sessions in the rave era you'd hear the likes of Galliano and Brand New Heavies far more often than you would Basic Channel or Black Dog! And we can only assume that reminding people of that fact is the motivation for Heroes Of Acid Jazz to bring us a very faithful cover of this James Taylor Quartet classic, which was first released in 1990 - horrifyingly now a full three decades ago...

Review: Here comes a lavish disco drop from the Redux Inc stable who present this fat and loud serving of party provisions. First up is T.S. Monk's 'Candidate For Love' which gets re-rubbed by Casa Blanco for a sizzling peak time disco inferno. Then Incognito and Jocelyn Brown's perennial 'Always There' gets sent into the cosmos thanks to 'Re-Invention Of Time' version, while Lonnie Liston Smith's 'Expansions' gets turned out in style with the 'Sands Till The End Of Time mix'. Finishing with yet another banger, Sylvester's 'I Need You' gets the 'NS & LG Phunky' treatment with all the wildest hooks of the seminal disco track buffed up and placed front and centre.

Review: The O'Jays' 1972 proto-disco classic gets reworked for contemporary dancefloors by the mysterious Redux Inc crew, whose only previous release involved doing much the same thing to The Jacksons. It's a respectful remake that keeps the song structure essentially the same, but adds an electronic 4/4 kick, extends certain sections and, in others, gets busy (though not too busy) with the filters and FX. The end result is a mix that 50% of the floor probably won't even realise ISN'T the original, but that'll be a lot easier to programme/mix - and hey, the Christmas party season's coming up...

Review: Redux Inc launched earlier this year with a vinyl-only EP that boasted tasty revisions of the Jacksons' "Shake Your Body Down (To The Ground)". They've now turned their attention to the digital realm via this rework of Linda Clifford classic "You Are, You Are", which comes from the shadowy label owners (thought to be Aussie scalpel fiend Robbie Blanco) and production outfit Digital Visions. Clifford's classic, Broadway-influenced vocal and soaring orchestral backing track is given a not so subtle kick up the proverbial backside, as the assembled Redux Inc remixers underpin it with a rolling and chunky house groove. They've handled the original with care, of course, just made it a little more suitable for contemporary DJs.
