Review: Per Martinsen aka Mental Overdrive has been involved with dance music since the very beginning, and together with colleagues like Bjorn Torkse and Biosphere, laid the foundation for Norway's legendary house / disco scene. Epilogue is his first album in four years, and showcases his freewheeling approach to production. There's the gentle chimes of "Repeat Then Repeat", the sample-heavy, mysterious disco shapes of "Bits" and the chaotic electronic funk of "1st Run" and "Shakes" . Despite making music for almost three decades, Martinsen hasn't lost the adventurous, innovative spirit that saw him pioneer house music in Norway, and the warm electronic groove of "Wormholes" will warm even the most cynical hearts.

Review: In the three years that Prins Thomas' techno offshoot label has been in existence, it has mainly acted as a platform for artists like Keita Sano and Mental Overdrive. Now the label boss himself appears on the label to deliver a left field take on techno. On "Apokalypso 2", the Norwegian producer drops a rolling groove and a cacophony of bells, underpinned by a surging, driving bass. The Oyvind Morken 'Trance Dance' version is more nuanced, with the bells brought to the fore and a lither rhythm deployed, but it doesn't detract from the wiry acid and insistent groove of "Apokalypso 1" or the moody swagger of the third version.

Review: Engh is a newcomer, but on Snurrbass, he follows in a fine Norwegian tradition. Issued on Prins Thomas' label, this four-tracker is at the tougher end of the sound, with "Deva" based on metallic beats and a spiky rhythm that underpins surging chords. The title track is even more linear, as Engh takes inspiration from the churning, scuffled dub of Basic Channel, while on "Linjegods", he delivers a loopy, rolling groove that resounds to noisy riffs. The only track that bears a likeness to Prins Thomas style is the deep, disco-tinged house of "Z", but the typical Norwegian flair for dance floor music underpins this whole release

None Of Your Business - (6:20) 122 BPM
Review: Keita Sano's third artist album in as many years shows that he is one of the most talented new producers of rugged dance floor tracks. Released on Full Pupp offshoot label Rett I Fletta, it veers from the soaring acid-disco of "Full of Love" and "Honey" into the rhythmic machine dance of "Leave The Floor" and the shimmering Italo synths and snare rolls of "On The Floor". Whatever the Japanese producer may lose out by not focusing on a specific style, he more than compensates with through his adventurous approach. This is apparent as the eponymous album reaches a climax with "Vood" and "Sucker (Part 2)", the kind of throbbing hardware techno jams that wouldn't sound out of place on L.I.E.S.
